Hurt them in the pocket book

Hypothetically speaking, if I were to enter "Kailua" in a google search browser, the first website that pops up might be the "Kailua Chamber of Commerce". Google charges the "Kailua Chamber of Commerce" $1.29 every time someone clicks on that link from the google search page. So, every person who searches on google could "theoretically" charge the "Kailua Chamber of Commerce" $1.29 for advertising when they click the link. This is called Google Ad Words.

Basically, people like the "Kailua Chamber of Commerce" have a daily budget of anywhere between $1 and $1000 dollars, with the average being probably $10-$20. So if you have a budget of $10 a day, once 9 people click on the link of "Kailua Chamber of Commerce" through the google search page, the advertiser no longer has money and their add is no longer featured. The same applies to lets say those who advertise rentals.

Search Strings and Prices

Kailua Rentals - $1.72 per click it charges.

Kailua Vacation - $1.60 per click it charges

Kailua Condos - $1.55 per click it charges

This can all be easily verified by checking out google adwords and looking in to the pricing index. These prices go up and down, the higher you are on the list in spots 1-3, the more money you pay per click.

So, although not advised, if someone were to get 100 users who would search google for 15 minutes a day and click through all of these ad's, you could deplete their daily balance and thus have their businesses systematically removed from the google search engine until the following day.

Note: google adwords also uses regional based search engines, so these businesses would catch on and block people from kailua from doing this probably after a week. That's why if someone were to do this, it would be beneficial to make friends in the mainland who can search Kailua.

Although this probably is not illegal, it would be quite mean. But at least it would take these advertisers off the search engines on a daily basis once their daily ad allowance is depleted.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Hurt them in the pocket book

Hypothetically speaking...that's the dumbest thing I ever heard of. For one thing if you do the Google search for Kailua, you'll see it's not a sponsored link so the Chamber really doesn't pay or get paid for anything.

On top of that, anyone using Yahoo or any other search engine would still be able to get to the Kailua sites.

So all you're giving out information about is how to waste the time of 100 people for 15 minutes each day.

Indeed! Wasting 15 minutes of their day would be a better way for them to get out their frustrations, rather than making illogical and incomprehensible arguments.
