Meon Valley railway; farringdon halt

As older Farringdon residents will remember, there used to be a railway which ran between Alton and Fareham known as the Meon Valley Line. There was a timber sleeper platform at Farringdon together with 3 sidings for goods traffic. Passenger services ceased in Feb 1955 but the Alton Farringdon portion survived until 1968 for goods traffic. Very occasionally a branch line railtour special would come down the line from Alton. I travelled on such a train in Oct 1960; the locomotive was M7 class 4-4-0 tank with 2 exL.S.W.R carriages which also toured other lines in the area still open for freight traffic such as the Bentley Bordon line.
