A Question for Lynsay..

Well I was wondering.. What inspires you to write each and everyone of your books? I guess what I really want to know is- are you going along one day and BAM! you have an idea and before you know it you have like the whole book in your head and your just itching to get it on paper? Or do you get idea's from here and there and eventually come up with a book? I know that you've mentioned before that things that have happened to you has ended up in your books one way or another. I guess I'm just interested in how your brain works.lol

Re: A Question for Lynsay..

Hmmm, how my brain works. . . Does it work? LOL. It's hard to explain the way stories come to me. So . . . Hmm, for the first book, I was in University and at the library looking up something for class when I happened across a book of the royal decrees of King Henry the . . er. . II? Can't recall, but anyway, one of his decrees was regarding the lady wife of one of his lords who came to him complaining that her husband wasn't attending his "husbandly duties". The King ordered that he get to it and fined him 500 chickens. I shook my head as I put the book back, wondering to myself what kind of woman would actually admit--in front of court-- that her hubby wasn't interested in bedding her. . . Well, Emmalene bustled into my head to explain and The Deed was written.

For The Key, I wanted to write a book about chastity belts. That was my whole goal. They seemed like horrible, torturous devices to me, but I wanted to write about them. . . only I wanted the heroine to WANT to wear the horrid thing. So then I started pondering what could possibly make a female want to wear uncomfortable, metal drawers . . . and Duncan swaggered forward with a tale to tell me.

Always came to me after reading various research books including the history of the time and a very very old book advising ladies of the household on how to manage various issues that might crop up. One section was all about horses; their ailments, how best to tend them, etc. It's wisdoms and warnings led to the scene with the farting horse decked out in his lord's clothing.

Sometimes an idea for a very funny scene will come into my mind and I write a book around it. Sometimes places inspire ideas. Sometimes people do.

Sometimes a story comes about because I have something I want to say (like in The Perfect Wife - "There is someone for everyone, and everyone deserves love")

Sometimes I'll be writing a story and it inspires something I want to say like the bit about never fearing looking stupid just because you don't know something. Only a fool thinks they have to know everything. An intelligent person is smart enough to know they can't possibly know everything and so has no problem asking for help when they come upon something they don't know. Heck even doctors send us to specialists when they come across something they don't know or aren't sure of, or that's beyond their realm of knowledge, and yet a lot of people think they have to know everything or look a fool. It's silly (I think that was Love Is Blind)

Then there are the Argeneaus . . . Well, I can't explain them. They just are. And this is wayyyyy long enough already. I'd best get back to work.

That was very interesting. Thank you for sharing a little bit more of yourself with us.

Thanks Lynsay!!

Re: A Question for Lynsay..

Thanks Lynsay, I loved reading about what inspires you to write something and why. I can tell you you have me hooked, I find myself going back and reading all your books over and over. I find a little part of myself in some of them, and I say that because although all of your books contain humor, they strike an emotional balance as well. There are some things mentioned in the books that most of us have felt or experienced at one time or another. I can always tell when I cry in some of them, that you have hit one of those touchy spots in which I didn't realize I had put up a defensive wall around. You have provided a release to some sort.

Thanks for sharing your ideas, talent, and yourself with all of us.

Stauri - Who's emotionally imbalanced and feeling kinda sappy right now.

Re: A Question for Lynsay..

I love your books, Lynsay. I enjoy reading them over and over again. I have to say I actually got a little teary at the end of Love is Blind so thank you for that book and sentiments in it.

Re: A Question for Lynsay..

Yes, Love is Blind was a wonderful book. Those two were just too cute together.

Re: A Question for Lynsay..

Thank you Lynsay that was very very helpful.
I cant wait for your next book to come out!

Re: A Question for Lynsay..

I'm not a writer of anything by any terms.. just fanfic and some vampire goth stuff for a teen site... but I know I get inspired by dreams (spooky huh?) or sometimes just something little like a phrase or song or a picture will get my fingers and brain to working. So it's interesting to read Lynsey's reply as I always wondered what inspired authors to create their characters, etc.
