Do you know this Author?

I was looking at coming soon releases at the B&N site..and saw this author "Monica Mccarty"..Have any of you read her books...she seems to like the Highlanders..which are my favorite people to read about..I was just wondering if her books are good?

Re: Do you know this Author?

Hi Jacquie,

I just finished reading Higlander Untamed and Higlander Unmasked. The next book is Higlander Unchained, and I think it is the last of a trilogy.
The first two are about brothers Rory and Alex MacLeod, and the last is the story of their youngest sister, Flora. I think Monica McCarty is a fairly new author. I enjoyed the books, and am looking forward to picking up the last one that comes out sometime this month. The books are traditional, and the author includes a note at the end of each about the actual historical figures and events that are in the books and any changes she made, which I found very interesting. For instance, the main characters were real people and the event that caused the feuding between clans was an actual event. Of course, the author takes "poetic license" to bring us an enjoyable story.

The books do have occasional humorous moments, but they are not funny like our Lynsay's historicals. Also, unlike Hannah Howell's or Lynsay's books, the characters don't speak with a Scottish burr. I didn't notice it at first, because names for places and items and the clans and court were like most other Scottish historicals that I have read. The books take place in the time of King James starting about 1599, with the latest book beginning about 1607.
However, I like the way the author writes the books well enough to not be too nitpicky about the English speech of the Scottish characters

Kind of a long post just to say these books were good and this author shows a lot of promise, huh?
If you have already read any of them, give me your "review." We must keep ourselves amused while we wait for our next Lynsay book...

Renee

P.S. I have also just read Hannah Howell/Lynsay Sands newest, HIGHLAND THIRST. I know you prefer the historicals over the vampires and other creepy critters, but this series that these two great authors have put together have the best of both. These are very much Scottish medeivals with a clan that happens to be a little different. Have you read them?

We'll have to look on Lynsay's site to see the order of the books. I think there are three so far, and they are very good. And I'm not being biased just because these are two of my favorite authors...I'm very picky about any book that says paranormal romance on it. I even bought the latest one new even though it came out in that bigger paperback format that costs more. I know it is an honor for the authors to be published in hardbacks or these larger paperbacks, but I don't think the publishers realize I would buy twice as many regular size paperbacks and they are forcing me to either choose or go to the library, or do the unthinkable and wait another year for the regular size paperback to be published. I get a little grumpy when my book budget gets cramped. But that's for another post, huh?

Re: Do you know this Author?

Thanks Wren...I do have the Highland Thirst...just haven't read it yet. Yes I do prefer Historicals but have read the Vamps series too...I do like those books...and I like the way Lynsay has explained why they are Vampires.
Thanks again for the Monica McCarty book...I Have read Highlander Untamed and am waiting for Highlander Unmasked. It doesn't matter to me if they speak with a Scots accent or not:) I don't remember which writer it is but she uses a very strong accent and you have to stop and think what the person said..I don't like that:)
Thanks Again

Re: Do you know this Author?

I read all of theme The back of the book sounded good but I wasn't to impress with it. I wish I would have checked them out instead of buying them and I really do like most highland/ Scottish romances.
