My grandfather, John Edward Scrivener, passed away 3 years ago and we have recently found some of his medals from his National Service days.
We know he was in Cyprus, we know he was a cracking shot and may have been a sniper, we also know that he has a military police medal.
The only time he ever mentioned his time there he talks of a road accident involving a lorry in which a close friend died, apart from this we have no information.
If anyone remembers my grandad I would love to hear from you, if it helps he was a rough and ready loveable rouge with a foul mouth and a short temper. In later life his friends called him 'Scriv' but he may have gone by other names as a young man.
