God's commandments and the law of Christ

Everyone knows what God's commandments are with regard to the Old Testmament with regard to the way of life. There were the 10 Commandments.

Today, what is the law of Christ? Can it be summed up as love God, love your neighbor, and love yourself? Can one do this without knowing every specific New Testament command?

Has a count ever been done of the total number New Testament command for christians?

Yes...you are absolutely correct. Christ conveys that all the laws/commandments of the Old Testament hang on solely on two things which are the following:

Thus saith the Lord......

Mat 22:35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked [him a question], tempting him, and saying,
Mat 22:36 Master, which [is the great commandment in the law?
Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.
Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Most people who know the grace of God of the Law of Christ would not be so inclined to want to count how many "commands" there are in it. Rather, they know and rejoice greatly of the "grace of God" that forgave them of their sins and will continue forgiving them by their Godly sorrow and repentance.
