Book Covers

There are many really well designed book covers and some.. really bad examples.. why don't we post them here and discuss the covers? (until we get the new forum image coding wont work so you'll need to post the image URL)

Re: Book Covers

They aren't really big but I can't seem to find larger versions

They actually look a lot better when you have the actual book, they have a lot more colour depth and tone, I really like the Circle of Desire cover and the Circle of Fire is really cool too. If you don't know what it is the animal on the Circle of Death is a panther.

The covers fit really well with the book, the main characters in Circle of Fire is a hawk shifter and a pyromancer, The Circle of Death is a witch and a panther shifter (the name fits well going along with what happens in the story) and the Circle of Desire is an empathetic telekinetisist and a werewolf. Its a really fitting name with the amount of sexual tension bubbling between these two, its almost the full moon and the moon fever is in his system as explained werewolves a lot more fertile in this stage and send out heavy pheromones making them a lot more sexually attractive.

Re: Book Covers

As long as we are careful not to bash other authors or the publishers, but simply give our opinions of why we like or don't like a cover or if it fits a story, then it might be okay. It's an interesting topic, but I think we may need to defer to Lynsay, Mr. Spice, or House-Elf Terri on this one.

The reason is that Lynsay knows and is friends or colleagues with other authors, and also has contracts with both Avon, and Dorchester on her previous books. She has to work with these authors and see them at book conferences. Also, the people like the editors, those that work in the art departments, and others employed by her publishers need to be considered. I wouldn't want her uncomfortable in her professional life because of a topic we had pursued on the forum.

We would not want to seem, even unintentionally, that we are bashing others on her official forum. Especially as we like to think of ourselves as her "official fan club" and Lynsay and Dave give us a lot of leeway on what we discuss and the bantering we do here.

It's not that I don't think it is an interesting topic, because it is and I know we would have an interesting discussion with our varied opinions. Most important, though, is we always have to think of the Lynsay Sands name and reputation. So, before proceeding, I think we should get an opinion from the official moderator or admistrator of the website/forum.

Just my humble opinion, wren (yes, I'm capable of being humble when needs must! )

P.S. I'll send an email to see if this topic is approved by the Spices...so that one of them can reply, okay? Just so we are sure!

Re: Book Covers

Oooh I hope you get your response soon Wren. I have seen some freaking hilarious book covers, men in thongs, butt cleavage and all sorts of lovely things like that. But of course, I would never want to offend anyone here or El Spices . I'd feel horrid!

Re: Book Covers

Well then why don't we just talk about the good stuff then?

Re: Book Covers

I went ahead and sent the email. In the meantime, Acal has a good suggestion that we just stick to the "good things" until we get a reply. Hopefully, the Spice Team will give us a reply on the forum, so that everyone will know what is allowed for the topic.

I'm just going to wait on our answer...and I need to go get some work done, anyway!

Re: Book Covers

Love this cover, Kelley Armstrong Personal Demon

http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/images/n48/n241500.jpg

The woman is Hope, chaos half-demon.. it was a great book I read it pretty much all in one day her next book is set for December I belive, Book 9 Living With the Dead where she goes in with her first main male character in the series (until this book her male characters have been minor ones)

Re: Book Covers

I've really liked the Feehan Drake Sisters covers. All of them fit with the titles very well and have great scenery.

Re: Book Covers

Mr. Spice and I have talked about it and we think it's fair enough to discuss book covers as long as the criticism is objective, truthful and fair.

We don't want it to descend into any form of personal criticism and we don't want you guys arguing over any opposing opinions that might be expressed.

Lynsay

Re: Book Covers

Thank yo Lynsay.

Re: Book Covers

Why can't we put the pictures directly on the post? I have been a little confused since it says html is allowed....and the smilies work?.... Well I'm going to try, and if it doesn't work I'll just look like a doofus:
Here are those pretty ones by Lynsay I was rambling about somewhere else (where I probably shouldn't have hehe)

Re: Book Covers

LOOK! I AM NOT A DOOFUS! :) Horray!! Aren't they pretty?

Re: Book Covers

Thanks, Lynsay & Dave!

We know you are really busy right now, but it was best to be sure before we got way into our discussion.
We would rather ask when unsure, so you don't have to delete if it's not appropriate for the forum.

Along with cover art, it is a good way to share and discuss books we have enjoyed reading or other authors' styles while we wait for the new Enforcer book! Especially since you can't always tell by a cover if a book is going to be a good read, if you don't know anything about the author!

I know that we can keep it within the guidelines that you have set, because all of us are capable of respecting each other's opinions, even when we differ. That is what makes our forum special, and makes good forum friends from all over the world. That is just "magical" all on its own!

Also, you have only asked us to go by our normal Spices "good forum rules." Thank you for replying so quickly.

Re: Book Covers

Kelli,

Those are very pretty covers. I had seen them in our library in the Large Type section and checked them out for Gypsy. I think they are even prettier than the original paperbacks.

I have already read Love Is Blind and The Perfect Wife, both of which are excellent. But I may order these in the Large Type just because they are so nice.

Lynsay has a cover that was originally considered for Love Is Blind from Dorchester on her website under the "Collector's Corner" section. It is yellow background, and is somewhat a "cartoon style" cover, but I liked it a lot better than the "pretty lady in the garden cover" of the paperback that I have seen that was published. Lynsay had received the cover flats already, but doesn't think that any were actually printed. Seems the distributors didn't care much for them...but I like it better. I guess they don't realize that a historical can be a good historical and still be funny at the same time. Oh well...

Re: Book Covers

Re: Book Covers

Well.. that didn't work, how did you get it to work? I used the html image code but nothing happened

Re: Book Covers

Acal I have seen you mention Keri Arthur before. What kind of books does she write?

Re: Book Covers

Try this type of html [img src="putURLhere"] but instead of [ and ] use < and >
and put the image source in by right clicking on the image and copying the URL and putting it in the ""'s
for other stuff just look up basic html. Lotsa fun stuff

Re: Book Covers

For You...

(I'm interested in both of these authors, been waiting a while to check 'em out)

Re: Book Covers

Got the Kelley Armstrong book today.

Re: Book Covers

I've read Keri Arthur's Riley Jenson novels and they are really good. I have picked up a couple of Kelly Armstrong's books at the flea market but I haven't read them yet.

Re: Book Covers

I was hooked on Kelley's books after reading several of the Anthologies she did with Lynsay and other authors.

I am a wee bit bored... Don't mind me.

I noticed something...
Lynsay's German The Switch is the same cover as
one of Kathleen E. Woodiwiss's many covers of Come Love A Stranger (this one is 1984) Well the couple is the same.

What do you think about reusing book covers on different authors? I am just curious.

Here are some that I liked. feel free to make comments I wanna see what other peole think of my insanity, 'tis fun hehe so... Bare with me.. this might get old

I saw a thing that this was suppoed to be the end of the series, thank goodness it isn't.

The usual old fashioned hot vampire Look at those eyes!!! Now those are eyes I want in my bedroom Stuari hehe
I bought it on a whim, love this cover, sexy in a darkish way like Anita. But this I don't know if I will buy, but wow cool

Oh there's moreeeeee. These two books were Delicious.

(I think a womans back and nape/neck?whatev-are very sexy just like TAV's man with the ripped abs, yeeeummmm)

I am in LOVE L-O, L-O, V-Eee with this one, hmm wonder why

<--looks like fun, anyone ever read Nicole Jordan's work??

Okay I'm done playing with images :)

Re: Book Covers

Kelli I am reading To Seduce A Bride right now actually. I have read the other two books in the courtship wars, all really good. These are the first books I have read by her and I will be on the look out for more.

Re: Book Covers

Kerri Arthur and Kelley Armstrong both write paranormal romance/action novels they are awesome, the first two authors i've read, i've gotten most of Kerri Arthur's books and now I might check out her two werewolf books.

Kelley Armstrong's books are great Chaotic goes with Personal Demon the one from Dates From Hell, thats how I got into Lynsay Her world is awesome don't like her vampires though theres nothing too them they don't have any supernatural abilities apart from not dying easily, they only live a few hundred years and NONE of the vampire things apply to them except for beheading to kill.

Bitten is her first novel and you really should read them in order to fully enjoy it

Re: Book Covers

Haven;t gotten into Kim Harrison's stuff yet but it looks pretty good, i need to save a bit more money though shes got 6 books that in total will cost me $132 ($107 with the special -$25 frequent buyer voucher)

Re: Book Covers

Has anyone read the brides neclace trilogy by Kat Martin? Made me

Re: Book Covers

I like this cover because at first glance it appears to be one thing, and then on closer examination you realize that it is something else.

Kim

Re: Book Covers

sure looks like a pear to me
is it something dirty? my mind is not in the gutter today, mayb thats why i cant see it... Lori Foster though

Re: Book Covers

I guess this isn't really the best picture to use because it is a shot that is straight forward. When you have the book just lying around the house and the cover is at an angle, the round shapes and warm colors (looks darker here, very peachy in reality) can make you do a doubletake.

I'm guessing that whoever decided on the cover was going for exactly that impression because some of Lori Foster's intimate moments can get very HOT.

Kimberly

Re: Book Covers

I loved the trilogy by Kat Martin! I'm reading her new one. she's good!

Re: Book Covers

I love Kat Martin's historical. I've read the Bride's Necklace trilogy and loved them. I also really enjoyed her first two books from the Heart trilogy.

Re: Book Covers

read DEAD PERFECT....its good! I like her books if i want a quick read, but she stays very vague with some things that could use a little more details, and i have noticed she likes to just end them...flat ok I am done! kind of thing that comes out of nowhere...so i don't really read them anymore,
but like you said....THE EYES DREW ME TO THE COVER!!! and its a good one..he's a vampire and an author of fiction romance novels and she is dying but thinks he is a vamp just not sure, so she asks for his help to keep her alive by turning her, and he dosn'tturn her (right away) but he keeps her healthy for as long as he can and in return she posses as him for a book tour!
ok i am done with my critique!

Re: Book Covers

I like this one.
It is a re-issue of a book written in 1980...

Here's the old one...

I'm still wondering what you all think of recycled book covers for different authors...? Anyone?

Re: Book Covers

Re: Book Covers

^^ I'd imagine though that the cover will look better when the red shading is removed so its just an undertone. Right now I don't really like it

Re: Book Covers

We know.

Re: Book Covers

Um... just a thought but I am not sure if we are allowed to have that cover here. Didn't Lynsay's publishers say she wasn't allow to have it on her website?

Re: Book Covers

Yes. She had to pull it from her Blog.

Re: Book Covers

She actually removed it from everything, her blog, her myspace...anywhere she posted it,
I am guessing....

LYNSAY CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG!!

but since it popped back up on her myspace that it-has been approved??? or is it still being discussed!?!?

I HAVE TO SAY, I LOVE IT!!!! THE MOON STANDS OUT SO NICE, and we get our sexy little BAT!!!SmileyCentral.comum....and the guys isn't bad either!!!....but he's no VICTOR!!!

Re: Book Covers

Well considering that its on her myspace and her blog, i'd say that its been approved

With the shading over the top on the myspace page, it makes it look a lot nicer. I think it would be a pretty good looking cover when the red is filtered out

Re: Book Covers

Lynsay stated on her blog:
p.s.

My publisher has asked that I don't show the cover illustration until they've done some additional work and got the promotion stuff underway - hence the reason that the picture has now disappeared.

L.

The only place it is, is on her MySpace. That is why we asked her if it had been approved.

Re: Book Covers

I don't think ya have to worry, I was snoopin' on her myspace today and she had it in her covers album. Acal isnt being naughty :) (at the moment anyway).

You are right about the redness kinda funky.

Re: Book Covers

I like the cover. I like the models, the moon, the bat, the lettering, and the red! I currently like the title. Also, the red will probably be more subtle on the actual book...just like the colours were on the three recent books! Also, I like the colour red...and that makes a difference.

I wonder why it is on the MySpace page now...because it was removed. It has not been put back on Lynsay's blog! Hmmm... VAF is my favorite cover, but I didn't originally like the orange-gold colour on it as much, because I'm not a fan of orange! Just my preference However, when I got the book, I was very happy with it and the orange was much more subtle than I had thought. I really like the teal blue on TAV although it isn't my favorite cover. So, I think I like the way Avon's art department is going with the books. I think VI could have used a little more colour, myself...but it was still okay.

Just wish we knew if the moon/bat was the enforcer emblem or if Avon even decided to have one after all, and if the word "rogue" is going to be in each book title...or possibly "hunter." Just something to think about...

Btw, the name "Sam" means both good listener and insightful. I just found that last meaning. Good for a lifemate whose name means still waters...since still waters run deep, I think we will be learning a lot about Garrett Mortimer!

Re: Book Covers

I think it will be "rogue"...it is inside of the moon with the bat...that may turn out to be our emblem, also. I wonder how many titles we can come up with for enforcers that have "rogue" in them I may have to start a new thread!

wren

Re: Book Covers

wren.. check again, it is on her blog. Lynsay just didn't edit it to remove the p.s bit she added that at the end of last month when it was originally posted

Re: Book Covers

I love the moon design and the color even it is a bright red - one might say a blood red?

And course the hunky male in the background aint bad to look at either

Re: Book Covers

Lynsay's blog about The Rogue Hunter was not removed...just the cover art of the book. I do not see the picture on the live.com blog. I have only seen it on the MySpace page.

http://lynsaysands.spaces.live.com/

Usually the same information is released on both, so I don't know why the book cover is not on both. Also, it seems like there would have been a note about it being put back now.

wren

Re: Book Covers

I really like (even if this isn't the final version) the font and the moon type dealio and the part where he's pulling the strap of the shirt down *ooohhh awww*.

Oh I have something I notice about Bite Me If You Can!

I have the hard cover k? In the jacket that tells you like the stuff you would see on the back of a PB they spell Lynsays first name wrong they put Linsay Sands but on the front it is right.
They must have been smoking "Debbies" that day hahahaha
But Spelling an authors name wrong yeesh that's something big to miss!

Has anyone else noticed this??

*~KeL ♥

Re: Book Covers

naw...i ony buy softcovers.....

but you should keep it, sometimes they catch it an change it, so the one you have mightbe worth a bit of money in the future!
misprints tend to raise the value....SOMETIMES!! that is.

Re: Book Covers

I usually only read paperbacks myself but I agree with Gena, you never know
