Most recent Dorchester books printing....

Anyone get any of this latest release? Can you tell me whether the cover was foil embossed lettering or just the regular flat cover that they have been doing for reprints?

Just curious.

Re: Most recent Dorchester books printing....

Well as far as I know theirs no embossed, my 3 Dorchester books don't have any of that stuff on them

Re: Most recent Dorchester books printing....

Ditto on what Acal said!

Re: Most recent Dorchester books printing....

Well, that's pretty much what I expected. I understand that they do it because it doesn't cost as much, but do they lower the price of the book for a cheaper cover? No, they don't. I'm curious as to whether the author gets a bigger cut of the reprint sales since you KNOW it's not costing them as much to print as the first run. Does the publisher get all of those extra profits? Of course, it's not just Dorchester that does this. I've seen an Avon reprint of A Bite To Remember and it isn't foil embossed, nor does it have the stepback.

So Dave, does Lynsay get a bigger cut on these reprints that don't cost the Pub House as much but they still charge us the same (or more in some cases)?

Re: Most recent Dorchester books printing....

Does anyone know the accepted internet shorthand for a long bout of ironic laughter?

Author's royalties are fixed by the terms of the original contract. Even if the publisher managed to reprint and distribute the books at zero cost to themselves it would make absolutely no difference to the author's earnings. A percentage of the cover price stays the same no matter what production costs are incurred in manufacturing the book.

And, also, since we have no idea of how many books are in the reprint run we can only take the word of the publishing house when they send the royalty statements. Not that I think for one moment that they would ever be anything but scrupulously honest.

Re: Most recent Dorchester books printing....

Well, that just bites! Doesn't seem fair to me. It should be a cut of the total profits, not just a percentage of the cover price. Bummer. And I always wondered who polices the pub houses on their print run tallies. I guess no one does.
