You can list as many names as you want. Those were just my top 3. I found them to be the most unusual. I wonder what they mean. You know how you have the baby books were they have names and meanings. Anyone know?
Herbert Manfred Marx is best known as Zeppo Marx, the name he used when he performed with his brothers, The Marx Brothers. There are different theories to where Zeppo got his stage name: Groucho said in his Carnegie Hall concert ca.1972 that the name was derived from the Zeppelin, a new invention at the time of his birth. However, the chronology of the history of that airship company does not correlate with Herbert's birth. In his autobiography Harpo Speaks, ca.1964, Harpo states (p.130) that there was a popular trained chimpanzee named Mr. Zippo, and that "Herbie" was tagged with the name "Zippo" because he liked to do chinups and acrobatics, as the chimp did in its act. The youngest Brother objected to this nickname, and it was altered to "Zeppo". Zeppo appeared in the first five Marx Brothers movies.
I have a Larry, Moe, and Shirley (their my three canine children since I don't have human ones yet).
Does that count?
Fave Names
Christian, Marcus, Dante, Tommasso, and Julius (something about Italian men)- although it's not in any of the books but my favorite name is Paolo (or Paul)
Okay Mr. Spice I think you are missing a stooge. Wasn't there a guy named Shep or something like that? Or am I way off base and thinking of name of household product or something
Davey Jones was so cute!....I grew up with him (kind of,)...my grandfather knew hm and he would come by when he was in town....He made me very popular when I had a birthday party!
WOW its been a while since i was here but my fave is Dieudonne Jules Benoit a.k.a. DJ i know its a mouthful and its weird but then so is my name. I also like Christian, Marcus, Dante, Tommasso, Julius, Bastien, Lucern, Lucian, Lucianna..heck i like them all
Rshaine Ferrera (told ya i had a weird name and people mispronounce it all the time)
Hmm, I always thought Etienne and Bastien were very orignal names.
I crack up every time I see Lucerne ice cream now, BTW! And can I just say I cannot read Kate as Kate anymore, I mentally finish it...Kate C. Leever.(Argeneau)
Etienne is the French equivalent of Stephen, which means "crown" or "crowned one." That makes sense, as Stephen was the first Christian martyr.
I think it is still a popular name. I like it, anyway. I also like Bastien, which is French and means "venerable, revered."
My mother-in-law was French, but my dh wouldn't let me use any of the family names or French names that I liked for our sons (we have two.) I liked Sebastien. He said they would get beat up on the playground His grandfather's name was Daniel Pierre...don't you think that is a lovely name? I wanted to have Pierre as a middle name. Unfortunately, husbands can be stubborn about having a say in naming the children!
That's okay, neither he nor my dad liked some of the other names I had picked out either...like Tristan...who was one of King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table. Again, the playground issue Now, we know a bunch of Tristans, as it has become a very popular name, and they aren't getting beat up on the playground, either! I was just a little ahead of my time. I think my dh and dad thought it sounded like Kristin, which was a very popular girls name where we live at that time. I like Kristin, also, but I didn't have any daughters.
wren...collector of names...see blog to understand that one!
Wren I agree with you - love the name Sebastian - after seeing Bastien's name in Lynsay's books just fell in love with the name again.
Like you I love unusual, and old names, even family names. My soon to be ex mother-in-law once asked me what I wanted to name my children both boys or girls. I had the names Giovanni Paolo (my maternal grandfathers name - John Paul) or Viviano Paolo (my maternal uncle's name)for boys, and girls were Isabella Sophia (Sophia for my husband's maternal grandmother) or Caroline Elizabeth (just liked the name) or using nee of Magnini as the middle name. To say the least we don't have children but maybe I'll have them someday.
Another name that Lynsay used that I have always loved but never thought much about was Christian. I have issues with people wanting to call someone Chris, Izy, Bella, Paul or Beth, etc. Don't ask me why, it's just a pet peeve of mine. I think it stems from seeing to many people insulted by others or used for someone elses amusement. Of course my sign in name here is my nickname and not my real name.
I too don't do nicknames...except here on the forum, and on the internet as a whole. wren is my own creation...for an email, so I used it for a user name. My last blog was about names...
I am called by my middle name, Renee. The spelling of my first name makes it hard for people to pronounce or spell correctly (it took my dh awhile to get it right and I have spent a lifetime correcting people and filling in forms with my first name, middle initial. I will answer to my first name, Alesia ~ pronounced like Alicia, but family and friends know me by my middle name.
wren comes from my last initial with the first three letters of Renee...to make wren, like the little bird. Funny, I will now answer to it as I've made so many friends through the forum who call me wren. Even my sister, Gypsy Terri, calls me wren at times.
My Frog Prince is called by his middle name by his family, because his first name was his father's name. He was called by a shortened version of his first name in school, and in the navy somehow he got called by his initials...which is what he goes by today. To top it off, he has two middle names, because his sister and brother had the same middle name. He ended up with three names because his mother and father could not agree so they gave both names they each wanted, and the matching middle name of his older sister and brother. Complicated, yes?
When we named our sons, we gave them very strong names, but they had the potential to be shortened to a nickname. (We also gave them three names like their father...but that's a tale for another day) I have found that if you call your child by the name that you want others to call him (or her) that they will not shorten it. I gently but firmly "correct" people who try to do so, or if I don't, my sons will as they are now 12yo and 14yo. My father's name is James, and that is what he is called...not Jim or Jimmy or Jamie...although Jimmy is what one of my cousins is called. Daddy just never liked his name shortened, and he was called James by his family while growing up, so that is how he introduces himself.
I have a friend who has a grown son named John Paul...he was named for both his grandfathers.
So, if you don't shorten Isabella to Izzy or Bella, or allow your children to be nicknamed, odds are that they will be called by the name as you want it!
Well, our first daughter is Elizabeth and we threatened everyone of our family and friends to never, EVER call her Lizzie as back in '93 we only thought of Lizzy Borden, haha.
So, by thirst grade, my second child began calling her Lizzy. Well we couldn't really tell her not to, it was her big sis. By then Lizzie Maguire became big and it was okay. Well as of today she goes by several nicknames:
Lizzie, Liz, Eliza(mine)
Then Amanda (child #2) is currently going by Mandy which hubby absolutely hates.
And our 4 yr old, Lillian, or Lilybug or in my case 'bug'
People look at me funny in the daycare when I pick her up. "Come on bug"
