hard to find...

Hey there, I am new to the world of the Argeneau series. Why is book three (Single, White Vampire) so hard to find? It is no where

Re: hard to find...

As I have been looking around I have noticed everyone is selling out, as well.

Mr. Spice...Is it true that they aren't goig to release it again for sometime if at all?? Is It going to be discontinued???

I have noticed that on EBAY *GRUNT* SWV is selling at upwards of $30- $50 (american) its crazy!

Re: hard to find...

I know!

I mistakenly bought the sixth book last week thinking it was number one. But when I got home and went on line to check I saw my mistake and went straight to amazon to buy the first five.

Since then I have bought the rest of the series and borrowed book one from the library because I could not wait for delivery. I have also searched on line and around Houston for Single White Vampire. It has just vanished. I did see it on ebay for over 50 dollars. Crazy...

Re: hard to find...

One way or another it will be back in print - even if we end up smuggling bootleg copies across the US/Canada border diguised as cases of Seagrams whisky.

Re: hard to find...

there in such high deman right now...

it might be easier to get the WHISKEY through!

Re: hard to find...

I couldn't find any copies of SWV but I did come across this website and thought people here might find it interesting. "Better Than Chocolate Book Co. offers used, paperback Romance Books & Women's Fiction by women authors."

http://www.betterthanchocolatebookco.com/?page=shop/index&CLSN_1886=1206834133188696996c14899576f389

No Argeneau books available at the moment but we could keep looking and maybe get lucky!

Re: hard to find...

Well Dave could I still have the whiskey so I already own a copy of SWV?

Re: hard to find...

Thanks for the website tip....

I may need the whiskey also...

Re: hard to find...

if anyone needs it, i did find it at

www.BUY.com

That is the only place I have seen that still has it.

Re: hard to find...

Hopefully for me the suppliers to Australia still have that book.. its one of two i'm missing still..

Re: hard to find...

Some of the books are found at used book stores. A lot of people trade 2 get 1. Usually they are in good condition.

Re: hard to find...

I asked the lady that owns the book store in the flea market here to keep an eye out for me if anything comes up for SWV she gets alot of books in she has my number if it comes in

Re: hard to find...

Should we start buying and saving whiskey boxes now Mr. Spice? The demand is high for those three former publisher's books.

You know, they should just sell the rights to Avon for those books...I don't know why Lynsay changed publishers, but she is a NYT bestseller now...and her fans need those three books. Kind of important since those three tell the story of Etienne, Lucern, and Bastien...which sets up a lot of the other books. If Dorchester wanted the series, they should have ordered all four in the first place...although I am happy they let Lynsay take the characters with her when she moved to Avon...that is rare, my friends! We are fortunate on that one!

How do we write to Avon? They should be in discussions with Dorchester for printing or buying the rights to publish those three books, in my never humble opinion! I put some of the responsibility on getting those books re-printed on them. Who do we need to contact? Email and letter-writing campaign? I buy a LOT of Avon books from some of their other authors also...and I buy everything Lynsay writes. My top three keeper authors all write for Avon...as do many of the others that I read. Phone calls? I'm ready...I shall have to look and see which other Dorchester authors I read. When contacting them, I want them to know that I'm a regular buyer of books...and I expect those to be published and I want a date! I feel a "Terminator mode" coming on...Julia Sugarbaker never had anything on me, dahlings!

Is it even a possibility...I'm sure it is, because publishers can make deals with each other. If Dorchester would sell the publishing rights to Avon, then those three books could be printed in hardback and also in covers to match the new books. If Avon would buy the rights even if the cost was high now, they would come out ahead in the end. I like the originals...but I don't want them going out of print and the readers being at the mercy of publishers not cooperating!

Re: hard to find...

They probably just didn't want any sort of backlash from blocking any new books because I think thats cheap, nasty and very dirty if the terms of the contract are not being met then it should be voided. But obviously thats not the case here, if Avon really wanted those books under their name they'd make the offer.

I know of a TV network in the US that is pretty much hated by anybody who watched a particular show thats no longer running because they were cheap, nasty and very dirty.. they hold the contract but are refusing to run it anymore its very dirty and nasty to not let another network buy the contract because everything was there all the actors and producers and fans wanted more but the network decided to cancel it and not let anybody else have it. I think when that sort of situation comes up that they shouldn't be allowed to have that contract unless theres a specific time on the contract if its open it should be cancelled if either side backs out or doesn't hand it out.

Re: hard to find...

I know that in the publishing industry that it is very rare for an author to move to another publisher and take the books and characters with her/him. It's just not done very often...Lynsay's agent worked very hard to allow her the rights to take the Argeneaus with her and build on the stories that had already been written.

I am sure that Dorchester still owns the rights to those books. Avon could make an offer, but it doesn't mean it would be accepted. Copyrights and legalities like that last a long time. It would have to be a major offer...but it would be nice if the two publishers could come to some agreements about reprinting the books in a timely manner. It can only help Dorchester, because if they own the rights...they earn money when they sell books. Right now it's a seller's market, because the readers want to buy these books...even in hardbacks. Lynsay Sands is hot! So, not getting them reprinted and on the shelves doesn't seem like very good business to me. Not only as far as the Argeneau books, but the historicals that they still own and publish as well. The Lynsay Sands name is going to sell those, too, as readers will pick up and try other things that an author has written, especially when other readers suggest it. Word of mouth is powerful advertising. I was just browsing when I picked up SWV, and another reader said how good it was...and of the books available on the shelf, said to start with that book.
So, when I left that Barnes & Noble that day...SWV had been purchased and went home with me. Two days later, TD&H came home from my local bookstore. Then some historicals. Then, wow...Lissianna's story was published. Soon I was on this forum...and I don't just buy books for me, but also as gifts for the people I know who enjoy reading. A book is a gift that can be opened over & over!

It could also work the other way around...Dorchester could approach Avon with an offer! I don't care how they work it out, as long as we get the books. That is why I'm willing to write, email, or call either or both publishers to tell them what the fans want!

wren...

Re: hard to find...

Just tell me when I need to write and I will.

Acal what do you need that you haven't gotten yet? I saw TD&H on the shelf of my local Barnes & Noble a couple of weeks ago, I can check again and find out if they still have it, or they can check the other stores near my house to find out if they have what you need.

Re: hard to find...

I finally found Single White Vampire...

It was on www.hotbooksales.com. It should be in the mail sometime this week...

I am with you all about the publishers. Let me know what we need to do and I will help. It drives me up a wall when I can't find parts to a series.

Again, I am so excited about my find. And it was only $5.25 for the book. LOL!

Re: hard to find...

I just found this link. http://www.dorchesterpub.com/Dorch/BookClub.cfm

They have all three dorchester books avail. Hummm maybe they are hording them.

Re: hard to find...

You can also just order them from dorchester with no book club membership. http://www.dorchesterpub.com/index.cfm and just do a search for Lynsay. 6.99 each plus shipping

Re: hard to find...

There isn't a Barnes and Noble store anywhere near where I live I have 3 major bookstores and none of them stock the Dorchestor books, one of them does have 3 of Lynsay's historicals though.

Hopefully they'll have my books soon! I'm dying!!

Re: hard to find...

I've just ordered from Books-A-Million.com, and it says they still have LB, SWV, and TD&H in stock. They ship between 1-4 days, depending on the book. I also ordered what I needed of the Avon books for family members and me.

I also was able to pre-order The Rogue Hunter...so I did hoping I wouldn't have the confusion of getting it through the local bookstore like I did with VAF. It is supposed to ship on the release date! Let us hope they get it right...

I use Books-A-Million because I have their membership card through my local Bookland...and this time I also had a coupon for $10 from my last trip to the bookstore.

Happy Dance going on here...

Re: hard to find...

Just a few weeks ago Dorchester's website was OUT OF STOCK on the first two but Love Bites was in stock. Now they have the first two listed but Love Bites is OUT OF STOCK. Maybe they finally reprinted the first two and now have to do the other? Or maybe they found some tucked away in the corner of a warehouse.

Kimberly

Re: hard to find...

Books-A-Million.com sent me an email saying that SWV was backordered. TD&H was pending...they were getting it through one of their other sources. Everything else was a go...including Love Bites, which they said was in my order, and I need it.

So, you may try to order, but they may not actually have it in their warehouse after all! Just thought I'd let you know!

Will write or call Dorchester and Avon...when I get power back.

I am hooked up to a generator temporarily. The storms across the South US Friday had tornados hitting Vicksburg and Jackson...we could be without electricity until middle of this coming week or later.
They keep backing up the estimate.

wren...not a happy angel without power!

Re: hard to find...

I hope everything is better Wren, but reading by candle light can also be sexy with a glass of wine.

Re: hard to find...

Wow your power companies must really suck, we had savage storms that completly ripped away the power lines in many parts of the state and the power was restored in under two days! 130km winds and such it wasn't really the wind causing the damage to the lines it was the large amount of thick braches and uprooted trees that tore them down

Re: hard to find...

Hey guys,

I finally was able to get SWV off of Amazon from a seller. so hopefully I get the book and then I will have all 9. yeah!!!, then i can read them over again in order.

Re: hard to find...

ACAL....most of the main lines in australia, (where we wereby Sydney anyways) are undergrounded and very well insulated...

everything is run above goun and the transformers arn't as well insulated here...so yea they do suck!

Re: hard to find...

It really depends on where you are, too. In some states, the lines are underground and insulated.
Mississippi is one of the poorest states. Also, this was hurricane like weather...and the number of trees down and damage to houses was big. Too, the power company focuses on getting the Hospital and city water treatment plant and others back online first, then it goes by priorities from there.

My dh works in nuclear power for the same company...just a different division, so that's our bread and butter kwim?...I'm glad he is not a lineman...the work is dangerous and hard when something like this happens.

As we are out in the county, and our lines run from farmland out behind us...not a surprise that it took a little longer for us. They did get it on faster than we had hoped for, and everyone was safe. That's the important thing!

wren

Re: hard to find...

Oooo that reminds me wren, the power got re-disconnected after a linesman got electrocuted while fixing the power pylons, for some reason the power was on when it shouldn't have been and he got zapped and was left dangling from the lines for 30 minutes until they could kill the power and get him down. It caused damaged to the transformers which needed to be stablised before it could be switched back on or they could have exploded.

Re: hard to find...

Did the linesman die?

Re: hard to find...

I don't know, I dont think so, I think after he got shocked the first time the lines overloaded and they shutoff

Re: hard to find...

Thank goodness. Poor man. Well I hope he gets a day off of work for that.

Re: hard to find...

Yay! My books are on the way...got an email today. They all shipped yesterday!

Except for The Rogue Hunter of course...way over in September, but that is okay!

I'm just happy I could get the copies of the "Dorchester Three."

wren

Re: hard to find...

Wren what books?

Re: hard to find...

I needed a couple of the "original three" Argeneaus and my sister Sherri needed a copy of BMIYC...doesn't know what happened to hers, if someone borrowed it or something. I wanted to get what I call the "Dorchester Three" which are LB, SWV, and TD&H before they couldn't be found at all. I wasn't sure when they might get around to re-printing them, and Kewie & Gypsy didn't have the whole set. I need to check with Kim...did she say that they have printed them again? That would be great! Keeps us from having to storm the Dorchester offices...I can see the headlines now..."Lynsay Sands Fans Dressed As Vamps Having A Read-In At Well Known Publishing House To Protest Bestselling Arneneau Novels Not Getting Printed Fast Enough!" Henna bat tattoos on all of us!(or the real thing on some of us) We could bring coolers of some kind of clear favorite drink dyed with red color in blood-bags!(we could bring those plastic champagne glasses, since none of us have fangs to bite our blood-bags with) Of course, we would be reading the books...this would be a "peaceful" protest. However, we could bring along some stake, bake, and slice your head off weapons for use as a last resort...but I don't really want to go to a mortal jail...or an immortal jail either...if they have immortal jails. Seems like most rogues just get the & treatment! Oh, and since we all still "eat" we could have food for this protest party, also!

I actually did have my copy of SWV and TD&H, but they have been well-loved and are getting kind of worn, kwim? I'm afraid Jodi got my well-worn copies of AQB and LB, because those were the only two I couldn't find at the time, and I so wanted to get the set up to her! Now she is all caught up with the rest of us. Hooray, NT Canada sister! Did you know maple is one of my favorite flavors? It seems your little girl did, as she sent the lollipops! And I can see why AQB would be a favorite...Gregory is yummy! Don't have to be immortal by birth to be yummy, you know? Mmmmm...maple-flavored immortal! What can I say? Sounds yummy to me! Who needs chocolate, anyway?

My copy of ABTR is falling apart...but some have said that the glue didn't hold on the binding of their copy when it first came out. Mine did at first, but I've read it so many times that it's not holding as well now. That is okay...am going to get a new copy, and store my original for Lynsay to sign! I am sentimental, I know! Also, SWV, as it's the first that I read, and brought me into the Lynsay Sands world!

wren who is loopy no matter what time of day!

Re: hard to find...

Wren you are dangerous when you put your mind to it. Clear drinks died red and put in blood bags? Scary!

Re: hard to find...

Oh.. I agree.. You girls must read those books sooooo much if the covers are falling off. All my books still have smooth covers and nothing wrong with them, only a few of them have spine creases.

Re: hard to find...

Acal, some of your Argeneau books are new! Of course they aren't well-worn yet! It is good that you do take very good care of your books, though.

Jill, you know I'm scary...I just don't like to be scared. I thought it was a "scathingly brilliant idea." That comes from my favorite movie of all time...The Trouble With Angels...with Hayley Mills. I think she is an all time great actress! Anyway, she and her best friend in the movie were at a Catholic boarding school...and they were always in trouble because of her "scathingly brilliant ideas!" This was a movie from her teen years, and it is so funny. Can't you just see us having a "read-in" with all the appropriate props? I did say we were going to have our "drinks" out of plastic champagne glasses...think Night Club.

As for my well-loved books, I don't usually reread books so often. However, I read Lynsay's over and over...I have read most of the Argeneaus five times, and a few of the historicals a couple of times. I also reread my Victoria Alexander "Effington" series and Julia Quinn "Bridgerton" series. If I ever get them back from Seashell (Sherri), it is time for a reread of Celeste Bradley's "The Liar's Club" series.
She is a very humorous writer, also.

But, it is Lynsay's books that get the most rereads. I always pick up on a new detail or something funny that I missed last time...or it just is a pick-me-up good mood read SmileyCentral.com

Re: hard to find...

Hmm I'm wondering if theres a different standard of publishing for different countries.. it seems like the UK and Australia/NZ get better quality paperbacks then the US/Canada. I've never had any of my books fall apart like that except for one book that had like no glue at all, the cover fell off when I picked it up!

Re: hard to find...

That's a good question, Acal. I didn't know there was a difference, but it could be.

Those of you not in Canada or the USA...do your paperback books hold up really well?

Enquiring minds would like to know...

Re: hard to find...

My friend doesn't know how to look after his books really he's got this really think paperback manga books and the covers are mangled yet they don't fall off. That's pretty much an example of superior publishing, if they were published in the way your books seem to be he wouldn't have any covers and some of the pages would fall out

Re: hard to find...

yea its sad, but i think americans are sometimes more worried about buying cheap, than whether it will hold up in the long run, most people read a bok a few times and get rid of it anyway! sad!

Re: hard to find...

When I got home tonight, my books were here!

wrenSmileyCentral.com

Re: hard to find...

A tip on getting those covers back on the books. Apply heat again. The glue they use is some sort of hot glue because it melts right back to tackiness and the cover is re-attached. I use an Iron on mine if a cover is coming off. Just hold the book with the long edge in your palm and apply an iron (set on "cotton") to the spine until the glue melts. Doesn't take very long and you can usually tell when it does. I put a layer of paper between the iron and book spine to protect both. And be careful, don't want any burned fingers. But it does work.

Re: hard to find...

way to go wren!!!!

Re: hard to find...

Good hint Denise

Re: hard to find...

Wren you are "scathingly brillant" and I loved the movie too. I only have it on VHS though . I couldn't find it on DVD yet. But eventually. Have you seen the sequel? "Where Angels Go Trouble Follows"?

My books are still in one piece but I am noticing the creases in book. Have to be more gentle with them that's all. Especially SWV since it is now extinct almost.

Re: hard to find...

Jill,

I have seen the sequel, but don't own it.

I only have The Trouble With Angels on VHS too, but I think the Movies Unlimited website has it on DVD now.

I'll look it up again to be sure, and let you know!

The "scathingly brilliant" wren

Re: hard to find...

Thank you Wren!

Now use your scathing brilliance (did I spell that right) and help gets some helpful hints from Lynsay
