Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Nice one, Wren. You're not alone here since I don't much like the Beatles, either. I think they were in the right place at the right when popular culture was becoming a recognisable and marketable commodity in it's own right and they became a lasting cultural icon more for what they represented than for their musical legacy.

I accept they did have a big influence on the music and culture of the 1960's, but they weren't the only ones. There were many others who had just as much, and in some cases far more impact on what followed but, because the others weren't presented to the public as four lovable English 'moptops' (and John Lennon was anything but lovable) they aren't remembered quite so fondly.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Wren I don't think you have anything to worry about. I don't think Gena wanted any of us to look like the Fab Four. But I do like their music a lot. I also love his song Imagine but that is the only song I liked by John when he went out on his own.

But it is okay that you don't like the Beatles. Not everyone does. We all have our separate tastes.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

nawww.......not real big on the beatles myself, i thought they fit due to the fact that SPICE-TEA is british!...guess no one got the joke!!

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Well I guess I have a thing for Paul's. I liked Paul McCarthy in Beetles , Wings and solo. Paul Stanley from Kiss not to mention I married a Paul.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Gee, C1,

WOW!...ts'all I can say...WOW!SmileyCentral.com

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Wren, Gypsy, and Jill - you are most welcome to join me and my girlfriends anytime. Just avoid my group of friends who take stickers that read "TAG YOU'RE IT" on them, as they usually end up with someone's name and Phone # on them, just depends on who they feel like needs a date.

As for Beatles songs only one I like is Twist and Shout - because I am such a dork and love Ferris Buellers Day Off.

Stauri - who's friends are teaching her to be verra verra bad

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Danke Schoen, darlin stauri...Danke Schoen!!

I lov when he is in the shower with the soap mowhawk, and tries to cover the camera with his hand to wash.
one the best movies ever..a must have for any video collection!

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Oh I definetly have to agree with both my dear sister and Stauri. Ferris Beuler is one my all time fave movies. I love in the end when Cameron gets so ticked off that he sends his car through the plate glass window.

Oh and the dogs with the Principal priceless.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Oh Gena, I did get your joke, and it was amusing!

It's just the Beatles-groupie band made me think John Lennon which made me go off on a tangent. I know, it's shocking since I so rarely do!

Since "Spice-Tea" knows a LOT about music and is a collector, and so many people are big fans of the Beatles and of their solo careers...well, I wasn't sure if I was opening a can of worms. Everyone does like different music...and I don't have as wide a range as a lot of people. I'm very paticular about my music. Alright, I admit it, irl I am picky, fussy, bossy, and difficult! Sometimes those are my good qualities.

Thanks, Mr. Spice...I always wondered what the big deal was when it came to the Beatles. Right time, right place makes sense. Also, maybe you hit it for me about John Lennon...for someone who was supposed to be all about Love and Peace, he wasn't particularly lovable or peaceful, was he? As for "Imagine"...well, there are a couple of lyrics that I object to for my own reasons. And sometimes, a song may just remind you of an unpleasant memory...but I don't really associate it with anything that I can think of today. Whatever, that's a discussion for another time and place.

wren

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Gena since no one seems to like the Beatles. You are just gonna have to come up different British Exports.

Let see there is Hugh Grant, and Christian Bale (although he is Welsh so I don't know if he counts). Colin Firth, Clive Owen....

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

C1,

Going through the books and changing Lucien's name to Paul...or Lucien Paul, yeah, that should work for you!

W2...will do what's best for her big sis!

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Jill,

All we need to do is look back on the actors thread...about "Not all vampires are bad." Very long thread...but almost every man we nominated for an Argeneau was British. Uh-Huh! Mr. Spice couldn't help but be amused at the "Second British Invasion" that we created!

wren...I say that Welsh counts. If he is UK, we count him!

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Oh goody. Then we can add David Tennant. He is Scottish but I love him from Dr. Who.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Jill,

British, Welsh, Scottish, Irish...hmmm, yummy!

Tea, Ale, and Coffee, of course...what did you think I meant? Oh...and actors...yummier...

Oh, and I've never had Ale anyway.

wren

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Yay for Dr Who.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

I miss my Dr Who.SmileyCentral.com

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Love Dr. Who, watch that on the BBC America as often as possible.

Haven't seen it lately though

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

I loved Dr. Who...grew up on Dr. Who.....but has to be the original!!

the remake, not so good!

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Gena I know you don't mean that. For all those who have the Sci FI channel Dr. Who should be picked up in April. I think and I might be wrong but possibly the 8th. Then usually BBC America gets the episodes.

Wren I like Ale and Tea too. Although not Earl Grey. Sorry El Jefe Spice.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

sorry JILL...don't like the new guy...

must be the original....something about the FRO!SmileyCentral.com

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Its okay Gena. To each his own. And the original did have that funky scarf. I always wanted a scarf like that. It was like wearing a leg warmer around his neck. I suffered from major scarf envy

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Well, Wren, another thing we have in common. I don't care for the Beatles much, either. There are some of their songs that I like all right, but I don't know if I'd put any of them on one a "Favorites" CD if I made one. Not a Lennon fan, either, and hate Imagine. However, I did like several of the Paul McCartney & Wings songs, just can't think of any right now.

One thing involving the Beatles I DID like was the PowerPuff Girls episode "Meet the Beat-Alls". It was so funny!!! Just about every line in the episode was a phrase from one of the Beatles songs. My husband and I died laughing every time that episode came on and the girls would just give us funny looks.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Gena, I take it by the smilie that you're referring to the Tom Baker years.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Mr. Spice...

Dr. Who just isn't the same without the old red PHONEBOOTH and the huge curly head of hair!!SmileyCentral.com

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

I dunno what you were smoking back in those days Gena, but I don't think there was ever a red phonebooth in Dr Who. The Tardis is an old style police box and it's still the same today as it was back in the Tom Baker days.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

SmileyCentral.comyea, thats what i mean.....WOW! SmileyCentral.comand they told me it was all nature and wouldn't hurt nothing!

g3

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Well be it the Tardis from the 70s or the Tardis from today. What I wouldn't give to be in it right now.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Time travel anyone?

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Oh yes please. If time travel were possible would there be a particular time you like to see?

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

How about the birth place of our Immortals? Atlantis

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Cindy - this is an interesting diversion. Why don't you start it off as a new thread. (I'd do it myself but since it's your idea you deserve to throw the first pitch).

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Thank you Mr. Spice. Done.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Denise,

This may be a scary thought for you, but sometimes I think we are long lost twins!

wren

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Wren, I had the same thought myself several times, LOL.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Anyone who likes Ferris Bueller should check out a show on USA network called Psych. The main character, Shawn, reminds me of him so much. Just quirky, irreverant, quick with the quips (wow, lots of q's there, huh?) Lots of references to the 80's. They are supposed to start showing reruns of Psych and Monk on NBC. It premieres on Sunday April 6th 9/8c. Hey, that's this weekend! I think they will only be showing episodes from season 2 which I find odd. Season 1 is available on DVD though.

Never liked the song Imagine until David Archuletta sang it on American Idol. Check it out on YouTube if you want. He just sang it with lots of emotion. I had one of those odd little chills up my spine when I first heard him sing it. Does anyone else ever get those when you hear a particular song for the first time?

I loved Dr. Who when I was a kid! Funny thing though, that's all I remember beyond the music. I don't remember any details, just that I watched it regularly. I've only seen the newer version once and that was to check out Christopher Eccleston. I loved the character he played on Heroes and thought I'd tune it to see him on Dr. Who. Unfortunately, they were only showing episodes with a new guy as Dr. Who. Maybe some night I'll get lucky and catch some reruns with Eccleston.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

kim..i love psych..its so funny!

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Kim, you know I love it. Shawn is too funny and especially he gets involved with a case with Gus.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

I just love this show, I've watched it from the very first episode. Have you guys ever visited the website for the show? It's pretty cool. Lots of fun things to do and watch. Check out Shawn's resume:

http://www.usanetwork.com/series/psych/games/resume/

I love how he was a Major League Baseball concessions vendor 4 or 5 times and always during the All Stars Games! I guess that's one way to get to see the game.

Gus has a blog and Lassiter has posted a few times in his but the one by Gus is much funnier.

And all the Pysch-outs are posted there plus a few vidoes only seen on the website. Webisodes I think they are called. Yep, I was right on the name, here's a link:

http://www.usanetwork.com/series/psych/video/webisodes/

Great site to visit for a few laughs, especially since there will not be any new episodes until July. But I suppose that is better than September like most of my other favorite shows.

Kimberly

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Kim I have been to website. I usually catch the Psych outs. They are great. I love when they decide to do music sketches at the end of the show too.

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

Wahoo!!!!!

Re: MR. Spice....whichdo you prefer?

I LOVE PSYCH!!!!! Our whole family enjoys it. My boys are into the "Little Shawn and Gus" cartoon shorts that they've been running on the newer episodes. So here's a show that everyone in our household likes, from age 6 to 51. We've bought Season 1 on DVD and are looking forward to new episodes.
