Re: A Quick Bite

My problem with ETIENNE..(even thoughI love him dearly) is that he isn't a fighter like the rest...He will fight for Rachel, but even she seems to surpass him in that department.
He is the computer geek of the group. He dosn't have to keep up the muscle mass...and like I said be fore I have a thing for dark hair and light eyes. So automatically I see all the men, with broad chests, dark hair their light eyes. I love Etienne, he is so sweet and careing and personality wise I can differentiate between all of them, but physically I seem to think they all have the same atributes!!

The really ironic part is, haveing sad that, I still don't have any problem seeing Lucian with light hair!...I guess its just the fact that he comes and goes(as the uncle) If don't place him in the immediate familly, I can see him with the light hair!

oh! sorry guys...you are all VICTOR to me!

Re: A Quick Bite

For the competition there I'd have to say out of the Argeneau men, i'm going to say Bastien is the best looking then Thomas

Re: A Quick Bite

No. Did you guys not even read SWV? They described Lucern as an Angel wannabe. David Boreanz is too kinds of yummy. End of discussion

Re: A Quick Bite

Hello!!!!!!Bite Me If You Can is the Book to read. Were you not listening?????????

Re: A Quick Bite

Okay Cindy. I agree that Lucian is on my top ten list. He is number 2. And since he was my first Argeneau he will always hold a special place in my heart.

But Lucern is.....Lucern. He made me laugh the whole time. Not even Lucian did that. And he was darn close.

Re: A Quick Bite

I know. Lucian became my favorite, 2 is Victor

Re: A Quick Bite

Re: A Quick Bite

I just reread A Quick Bite where Thomas wears the Spider-man PJs and I had forgotten at first that those were just a gag gift for Etienne from when he helped program a game base on a comic book.

When everyone was talking about the jammies being Etienne's I thought it sounded odd. I didn't think he would have really worn something like that but I thought maybe I had forgotten something He does have a nice sense of humor, remember the T-shirt that Leigh borrows from his closet? "I'm the Teenage Girl You Had Cyber Sex With in the Chat Room" Etienne makes a comment about it being funnier when a guy's wearing it. He's wearing a T-shirt at the time that says Geeks Do It Better.

I had to look up the exact wording on the T-shirt and there is a description of Etienne from Leigh when she answers the door.

"The man bore a pronounced resemblance to Lucian, though his hair wasn't quite the same quality of blond. It was more a dirty blonde to Lucian's ice, almost white blonde. And while he seemed about the same height, his build was a little less muscular and more wiry in the t-shirt and tight jeans he wore."

You know what I can't seem to find in any of the descriptions? The length of hair. I would think that Etienne's might be on the long side, maybe just long enough to pull back in a short ponytail or just kind of shaggy like he's overdue for a haircut. I just tend to think of computer geeks as kind of obsessive who get so caught up with what they are doing that mundane things like haircuts might be something they forget about. But that's just a stereotype and I find it hard to visualize Etienne with long hair.

I know that Lucian's is short because they mention him running his fingers through his short hair. And it's also mentioned that when Leigh sees him for the first time (that she clearly remembers). "Another [kerchief] covered most of the short blonde hair curling in waves away from his face..." I had forgotten about it being wavy. I kind of had a military crewcut kind of impression. It just seemed to go with his personality before he met Leigh. Kind of hard-ass, like a drill sergeant.

How do you think the nanos react to hair cuts or shaving? I'm guessing it would be like how they react to Vincent and Victor's problem with bagged blood. Not important enough to fix. But it would probably grow pretty fast just for health reasons. And I'm guessing that having that unwanted hair zapped away that commercial are always advertising about wouldn't work! So I guess Inez will just have to keep a steady supply of razors around.

Kimberly

Re: A Quick Bite

Hair is dead so the nanos wouldn't care unless the damage is done to the actual folicle which is the living part.

I just got 5 more books today from the store and I got a free book! (well almost) I bought 3 of Keri Arthur's books ($72, print on demand books are pricey $24 each) and two Lynsay books. Perfect Wife and Bliss ($30) Total price $102.. yet I was only charged $82! (Had a $10 deposit on the Arthur books so $92)

Also my copy of SWV has 447 pages.. but somehow the SWV I picked up in the store had 369 pages!

Re: A Quick Bite

Now sisters and those guilty by association

Well...I think I like tawny hair and silver-blue eyes and a muscular built inventor of video games...and the whole description of Etienne. Tawny is a warm sandy blond, almost a reddish blond. Oh my, Yummy indeed! Also, think scene on the beach...romantic!
Sheesh...strawberries and a bottle of Hershey's syrup would be dh's idea of fondue, too!

That puts Vincent and Bastien in first place (tie) and Thomas and Etienne in second place (tie)...no, maybe they are just all in first place together! Yep, that works for me! I just realized how much I like each of these books, and that either influences my choices or the characters influence my choices on the books.

Vincent and Etienne are fighters when they need to be...but Hello sisters...can anyone say "lovers?" Vincent outright told Jackie he was "good at it!" I like a man who is confident!

I also like Lucern...and I think SWV is the funniest book plus it was my first book...and Kewie says I am much like Kate. Yep, Lucern is on my list, J4! Lucern fits the warrior image just enough for me...and I like how he gets quietly amused about things, in spite of his outside gruffiness.

Lucien and Victor and Julius and the Port Henry immortals...well, if you like the older guys, that's fine! I will leave them to C1 and G3 to "discuss" over! Then, I can happily enjoy my list of Argeneau men...and look forward to a couple of Nottes. Marcus is another older immortal, but there are always possibilities...no reason to be close-minded or ageist! LOL But first, we have to see where the series takes him.

I think I might find Garrett Mortimer interesting, and he is blonde! Looking forward to finding out!

Why be limited? Blonde, Redhead, Brunette...

W2... and that's what wren has to say about it!

Re: A Quick Bite

Hey, girls, even our resident male reader, Acal, puts Bastien and Thomas as the top two best looking...two that are in my top list, making sure you do notice!

Btw, Thomas is the sexiest...try and deny it. He just has something special...How many of us on the forum were hooked on Thomas from the beginning and barely able to wait for Lynsay to finish his book! She was asked so many times when he would have his book. Have any of the books topped VAF at #3 on the NYT list? Even with it coming out up to two weeks ahead of time, and all the messiness about it being on the shelves before the actual release date! And it still came in at #3? Trust me, you know I see all ...Thomas' book was really #1! Only VI, coming in at #6 with the strong competition at its release, is close, and only Marguerite's story could hope to do that because we all adore her!

When we would list favorites before his book, I never even included Thomas because he was just "special" to almost everyone, including me! He was just a given! Even Lynsay said the cover art looked like he had just stepped off the pages as she had written him! Oh, yeah!!!!

wren

Re: A Quick Bite

Oh yeah, I always thought Thomas was an interesting character from reading A Quite Bite and then reading through the threads, I was really ill the day after I bought the book so it took me a little while to get to it, I finished Accidental Vampire and pretty much passed out for the rest of the day.

I thought it was hillarious that he injested the whole bag of SEC and Inez not wanting him running around the infamous Red Light district high on immortal viagra

Re: A Quick Bite

I agree with several of you, I find it hard to picture some of the guys as blondes. I was re-reading ABTR and forgot that Marcus is blonde as well. I'm italian and originally a blonde and still find it hard to see italians as blonde. lol Ok that was dumb.

My top 5:

1 LUCERN
2 Lucian
3 Marcus
4 Julius
5 Christian

Of course the last 3 could be replaced once Enforcer books are released.

Re: A Quick Bite

Acal,

What's print on demand? I had heard of machines where it was kind of like a vending machine for books. Is that what you are talking about? Or is this just kind of like a stack of paper that your printer would print out for you? I'm guessing it might not be as nice since you bought the actual books as well. As for the difference in amount of pages, is the font/print a different size?

Kimberly

Re: A Quick Bite

Okay, just realized that I could easily look this up myself since I'm sitting right in front of a computer with access to the internet!

This is what I found:

http://www.sfwa.org/beware/printondemand.html

So how is your POD book different from the one bought in the store besides the amount of pages? Is the cover different, the quality?

I had never heard of this before. It sounds kind of expensive but I guess it beats waiting forever to find a copy of a book that's unavailable.

I was considering downloading the Epilogues to the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn. Has anyone here done this before? Any viruses show up or any problems doing something like this? And has anyone read these epilogues and if so, were they worth it?

Re: A Quick Bite

ok wren.....we are taking notice, we just aren't paying attention!!

SEE, JIL.....Even C1 says Victor is the best....so now ifwe all take a deep breath a reread ACCIDENTAL VAMPIRE, we can all agree that Victor is the yummyest and putthis silly argument to rest!!SmileyCentral.com

Re: A Quick Bite

G3 Lucian the 2nd place is undecided.
Both men have that certain something. And they are right behind Lucian.

Re: A Quick Bite

Oh boy. I guess the only one on my side is Stauri. At least she has the good taste to put Lucern at #1.

Re: A Quick Bite

My favorite is Thomas, probably because of his sense of humor. The long running gag of annoying the elder brothers and Lucian by saying "dude" and stuff is something my husband might have done.

Jacob, my husband, just went back to college (one course) and is taking a geology class. Today they had to use sieves to get their soil samples down to a certain size particulates (sp?) and afterwards they needed to scrape the sieve clean so one guy gave him a membership card for a grocery store. Then the guy wandered off somewhere (they were in the lab). So when he was done, Jacob ran back up to the classroom and dashed in calling the guy's name. He wasn't there so Jacob acted all worried and said something like "Oh no! How's he going to shop for dinner without this! I've got to find him!" and ran out again. He said he heard one girl ask "is he serious?" but most of them just stared at him.

*sigh* Doesn't anyone have a sense of humor anymore? I thought it was hysterical but I guess these kids don't really know Jacob that well. He's got a way of making comments that if taken at face value sound puzzling but if you know he's pulling your leg are really funny. He's pretty subtle so I guess you really have to know him to get it.

After how many weeks of class, he still doesn't know anyone's names! He just refers to them by nicknames. One guy is the sword guy because he told Jacob all about these different kinds of swords and how he collects them. When Jacob asked him how many he has, he replied, "One".

Then there are the border girls. They had to do something to fill a display case in the geology department. Jacob did this large graph of the state of Wisconsin showing the different elevations and marking where glaciers had passed and changed the terrain. Some others made some models and provided soil samples and stuff. Then there was the two girls who said "we'll do the border" and made some decorative stuff for the side of the case. Okaaaaay. and his teacher let them get away with it. I realize they aren't being graded on it (I think it counts as class participation) but don't you think she should still have made them contribute more?

He may know their names for real but I think he realizes that I get a kick out of how he never uses them. His teacher is kind of out of it but you can't complain about her to the head of the geology department because....I'm sure you've guessed, she's it. She told them today she was going to double what their final paper was worth towards their final grade. Jacob wanted to point out that it was originally worth 50% of the grade which now made it 100% but noone else in the class seemed to realize that this meant their whole grade is now going to be based on this paper. They were still busy trying to agree on who was going to do which part of the research and writing for the paper. Because this isn't a final paper turned in by each person, they all have to work on and turn in one paper. All 15 or so of them. It sounds like chaos to me and I think his teacher is insane or just incompetent because she clearly has no idea of how to manage this class. She didn't even bother to go with them when she sent them out to gather soil samples the one class. Just crazy.

Wow, I really veered way off topic.

Umm. Thomas is #1!!!

Kimberly

Re: A Quick Bite

Kimberely your husband is hysterical. I would loved to be a fly on the wall during that class. How did he not laugh in that sword guy's face?

I feel sorry for him because it does seem as if the teacher (professor if that is what she is called)doesn't want to be bothered to put any effort into the class.

But still border Girls? Heehee too funny.

P.S. I know in your heart as well as my sisters' heart that Lucern is #1

Re: A Quick Bite

Jill,

He was getting kind of frustrated for a while but I think he's given up on actually learning anything from this teacher. The last few classes he's come home and just told me the funniest stuff. The people he has to deal with just sound so...well, dumb! When they had to collect the soil samples, one guy took one from one place and the Jacob took another from a different place. They are about halfway back (they were somewhere on the beach, Lake Michigan, near some cliffs) when the one guy asks him, "Hey, did you grab my soil sample?" Jacob said "No". The guys then asks, "Which one is that?" So Jacob says "The one I did." And the guy says "Are you sure?" *rolls eyes* The guy finally seems to realize that after taking his soil sample, he must have just left it lying on the ground. So Jacob suggests that he just take another from the nearby cliff (which is the same kind of soil composition) and the guy is all, "Oh no. We have to go back and get the one I already did." Jacob's like "Well, I have mine so....bye."

I think a few people went back with the guy but Jacob left to go back to campus. I still can't believe the guy actually asked Jacob if that was his core sample! Did he actually think that Jacob would pick his up for him after he drilled it? Or that Jacob would leave his own and take his? Crazy, huh?

Kimberly

Re: A Quick Bite

Oh dear god your husband must be going loopy in such a.. well strange class.. His teacher is a fruit loop! Dealing with such.. mentally handicaped people must have shrunk her brain!

Oh and if we are talking about everybody

1. Julius
2. Bastien
3. Thomas

Re: A Quick Bite

Kim - I can totally relate. When I went back to school to catch a few courses to finally finish my degrees, I went back to a traditional university and it about drove me nuts. I couldn't believe the amount of hand holding the profs have to do for these fresh out of high school kids. I wanted to scream.

The worst thing is they get out of school and become your boss in a short time. Because like most times management tends to promote them to their own level of incompetence, which means get them out of the way so that the real people who have sense can get the job done. Can you tell I'm frustrated right now.

My education was my personal goal not strictly for professional advancement. I got tired of hearing how can you possibly say you have achieved your goals when you haven't finished your education. I think if there are working adults in this world, that there should be more universities in which the prof is not just a lecturn but actually PRACTICES in the field they teach. Gives them a fresher perspective on what needs to be taught, how to relate to your students, and how to weed out the unnecessary crap in textbooks. But I guess that's why they call them PROFESSORS as they profess to know what they are teaching, as opposed to a PROFESSIONAL who actually knows what they are doing and can teach it.

Stauri - who's coming off her soapbox now, because she's d*mning the man (not all men - just the idiots who can't use reasonable deduction)

Re: A Quick Bite

Yeah, it's a shame how the geology department has changed over the years. When he first started college it was 1997 and the main professors were only a few years away from retirement so there is only one teacher still there from before and he's off for the spring semester.

After I graduated and we started our family, he took a break from college for a long time. He has a great job so it's not like he needs the degree to get a job, he just likes geology. But our youngest is now 4, so he thought it was time he finished. Especially when we realized that he's only about 5 classes away from graduation. He didn't realize he was so close.

I actually worked for a year after I graduated in 1999 (English degree) for Prof. Shea who was the head of the geology department at the time. He was also the editor of Geoscience magazine and I did proofreading and helped with page layout. He was great. When he started cleaning his office out he gave Jacob tons of his old geology books. And the other main professor retired about a year after Shea.

I remember when they were hunting for Shea's replacement, noone was too interested in relocating to Wisconsin so there weren't many applicants. This lady actually looked the most qualified. I think she might have fudged her resume.

She had weekly quizzes on the assigned reading for about 3 weeks but when a lot of people complained, she stopped. And she never had any lectures prepared, just asked if anyone had any questions about the reading. When people complained that they didn't understand parts of the reading, she stopped that too. Then she came up with the idea of having them do this display case, to promote geology and hopefully interest some other students. But the case is located in the geology department where noone goes unless they are already taking geology classes!

This woman should not be any kind of teacher at all. What kind of teacher doesn't prepare a lecture? Shouldn't her lecture have been all about what they were reading and why and how it was important to their understanding of how glaciers changed the earth as they passed over it, scraping and moving the earth around? And this isn't an intro class either. It's a 400 level course about Glacial Geology! My one history professor used to give us assigned reading in our book and then for his lecture would come in with about 5 or 6 others books that he would refer to in his lecture. You had to really pay attention in that class. He still made time to answer questions too. His tests were killer too. Multiple, multiple. Do you guys know what that is? It's like this:

Circle all true answers

Lucern Argeneau is
A) a writer of history and paranormal romance books
B) married to Kate Leever
C) an immortal
D) a very social, gregarious person who loves crowds
E) an undead, soulless vampire who would burst into flame if touched by the sun
F) the first born son of Marguerite
G) all of the above

Pretty challenging, huh? But exactly how a good teacher should be. If you couldn't pass his test, then you didn't belong in his class. End of story.

Sorry for ranting but this has been frustrating because he was really looking forward to going back to school. And to pay this much money and not really get anything out of it. *sigh* His boss will pay 100% for an A, 80% for a B, etc. But if his grade is based on a paper that he has to do with the rest of the class, what kind of grade can he really expect?

Kimberly

Re: A Quick Bite

I totally understand, I switched to a non-traditional university not long after that experience. We had "Learning Teams" as they called them, but luckily mine was a strong group, eventually we learned each other's writing styles, we are all Type A personalities (you want to talk about over achievers there were 5 of us) would assign areas in which each person excelled then meet the next night to find out what research was done.

Each person would provide a brief overview or as I would call it a short diatribe of their information and send to the designated person to piece together to make it flow. Another person would do the powerpoint after the initial 5000 word paper was done, and we would all be ready by the next class (which was a week away) to present before the rest of the class. When one of us would not pull their load, the others did an evaluation each class to let the instructor know who was not cutting the mustard. Even though we were graded as a team the Prof always knew who wrote what, as we also had individual papers (1500 - 2000 words) due each week as well. Our Profs were impressed that we all had similar writing styles but knew we were competent in our work. My team and I stayed together for 18 classes and by the time we were done with our program we had started a business from the ground up and the final Prof was so convinced the business was real, he wanted to invest. It's all about the team you acquire and the personalities I guess.

My team was bad in certain aspects, because a lot of other people saw how well our team was put together and some tried to join our team during the next class and couldn't pull their weight, so they were voted off the island so to speak. We treated them just like we would treat a co-worker or subordinate. They soon realized that we all worked hard for our grades and that we would not pull them along and their were consequences for non-participation (we were a little vicious at times, but that's how type A personalities are - we're extremely competitive, agressive, assertive, and expect the same quality of work and intelligience from others).

Again I'm ranting. Sorry.

Re: A Quick Bite

Didn't people once go to college to learn? Nowadays it seems like the goal is to get as many people to go to college as possible no matter if they deserve to be there. And if they can't hack it, they complain and then the teacher will teach down so that "everyone" understands it. I say, that if you can't understand the class, maybe you shouldn't be there.

I admit, I would be totally lost in most of the classes my husband takes and loves. Geology, chemistry, math. Not my thing. And anything practical like fixing a car or electronics. I suppose I could learn it eventually if I put my mind to it but it's going to take me a lot longer than someone with an aptitude for it. I would be the one getting totally lost. So something like that I would do on my own, where I could set the pace. It's not something I would try to make a career out of.

There is nothing to be ashamed of by becoming an electrician, a plumber, or a mechanic. With how much they charge, they must be making a good salary. And if it's something you enjoy, why not?

But so many people today believe that you need a college degree to get a decent job and to make good money. That isn't always necessarily true. My husband doesn't use his degree (which he doesn't even have yet ) at all at work and yet he makes a really good salary. He just doesn't believe in sitting around when there is work to be done. It may not be his dream job but he's really good at what he does and he takes pride in his work. When he does get his degree, he's not going to go out and look for a job in geology either. He's getting his degree because he really enjoys learning about the subject.

Sometimes I do feel bad though. He would love to work in that field and probably would if he didn't have a family. But the most interesting jobs would require him to travel a lot and wouldn't pay nearly as much as what he is making now. But we can't complain, we are pretty fortunate compared to a lot of people and we have been happily married for thirteen years now. Maybe when the kids are older I'll land a great job and he can go dig up rocks somewhere! I wouldn't mind him traveling because I know he'd always come back.

Kimberly

P.S. What was this thread about again?

Re: A Quick Bite

Let me know if he ever decides to follow the geologist side. Our company is always hiring geologist and geophysicists.

As for the topic, the thread was regarding AQB, but we always stray off topic here, then somehow get back on it. lol

Re: A Quick Bite

Please do not get me started about college. Unfortunately did not follow through on my education when I was younger, when it would have been easier. I had family responsibilities and it got too hard to go back. In most of the positions I had I did all the work, and my boss got all the credit and was promoted. I was told I wouldn't go far because I did not get a college education. Hmm... go figure. I had to bite my tongue to keep from saying that if idiots like my boss are products of a college education then I really don't need one.

Kim I am truly sorry for your husband. It is a shame to pay that much money for further education and to be left high and dry.

I never stay on topic so why would this time be any different

Re: A Quick Bite

Well, he did learn a lot, it just wasn't from the teacher! When he had to do the research for the poster he made for the display case (which he doesn't get a grade for ) he had me borrow other glacial geology books from the library to get the right information for the state of Wisconsin, he really worked hard to make it accurate.

The fact that he is actually taking a class on it, has impelled him to set aside study time for reading his textbook (on the off chance she resumes quizzes or has a final test). And he will get the credit for the course on his transcript and be that much closer to his degree.

He was just looking online today to see what courses will be offered during the summer and next fall. The only geology course offered that would fulfill one of his requirement is taught by....can you guess? And he needs a math course too but according to his transcript he needs some lower level math course even though he has taken a bunch of higher level math courses that were not required. Somehow he managed take the higher level ones even though you are supposed to have the lower level ones first. *shrug* He just signed up for them and by the time they noticed, he was getting an A so the teacher let him stay in the class. But now he has to go talk to his advisor to see if he can waive the requirement. It's not like he didn't take a math course. He has enough math classes for a minor in math. Why? He likes math.

Glad I don't have to worry about this stuff yet. Not until the kids are old enough to be in school full time. My English degree is currently gathering dust though. Anyone know how you get into the publishing industry? I really enjoyed proofreading and the other work I did on the magazine but is there a degree for that kind of work?
