Just another "innocent" question...

Okay I read one of Lynsay's blogs once upon a time about a trip were she took two cruises and didn't want to tell us every single detain because she mentioned that it may be used for a future scene in a book... dun dun dunnnnnnnn.........

Might Contain A Vampires Are Forever Spoiler.

So I have a query mahahahha Has Lynsay been to New Amsterdam? And to the Red Light District? I just have to know if she was the one trying to take a picture of the "ladies" with her cell phone like Inez? Or was it you Mr. Spice? hehehe.

Kelli

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Kelli, I think we need to define innocent for you. That was not an innocent question. That was mischief-causing question. And I think I can qualify as an expert in the field. Although I must say I am not as good as some of the other AE4

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

I have to agree with Jill on this Kelli. That is not an innocent question. But it is a good one. Can you picture Mr. Spice standing there attempting to take the picture???

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

No - it wasn't me in Amsterdam, but it was something that we saw happen. We were taking a walk through the red light district one evening, Mrs Spice took out her camera to take some photographs and I quickly suggested it wasn't a good idea considering where we were. Before she could put it away we noticed some guy standing in front of one of the red light houses pointing his camera at the girl in the 'window display'. Suddenly all hell broke loose, there were angry and threatening girls, pimps, bouncers and madames appearing from all over the place, all of them bearing down on the unsuspecting tourist who had broken one of the unspoken rules of the district. He quickly beat a hasty retreat down the road, escaping unscathed, apart from his dignity, and the place quickly settled back into its normal routine.

Another book scene that actually happened (oh, there are so many of them) was the stag party in Vampires Are Forever. When we flew to Amsterdam from the UK the stag party were passengers on the same aircraft as we were on. The groom to be was already in drag and the whole of the party were already in a very 'happy' state. Over the weekend we saw them again and again all over the city - let's face it, a six feet tall, drunken Englishman dressed as a woman is pretty hard to miss, even in a city like Amsterdam. And before you ask why he was dressed in drag - well, it's a cultural thing. You probably have to be English to get it - I can't really explain other than it's the same reason why we have the movie Kinky Boots and America has Mrs Doubtfire.

Dave (who is dressed in men's clothes)

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Which now explains why the 3 english gentlemen who followed my best friend and I around Epcot to accompany us in drinking around the world. They were insistent upon wearing feather hats and boas, and singing quite boastfully when we ended our all day journey to watch the fireworks from the English Pub.

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

I know it wasn't innocent but my innocent question turned me into a perv :)

Dave you and Lynsay have quite a life, maybe she should write autobiographies too lol you are all amazing.

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Kelli is right. I am now curious to know how much of the Argeneau series autobiographical?

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Have you ever seen us out during the day?

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Ohhh Mr Spice I love love love Kinky boots. I have
the boots/mountain top/cha cha shoes as a ringtone on my phone..

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

You're right, Linda, it is a good movie. I wish there were more movies like it.

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Linda, that is awesome. I love that movie too. I love when he is in the restuarant looks down to all the feet and sees his "niche market".

Charlie from Northampton is yummy. Also found it funny because in my state, I live in the county of Northampton.

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

too funny!

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Of course if I was gonna go with the top British Movies of all times I have to stay with my Monty Python Boys-Quest for the Holy Grail

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Now go away or I will be forced to taunt you a 2nd time.

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

its just a flesh wound!!

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

I should like to mention that, in my own defense, I was going to take the pictures to show my gran when I got home to Canada. I just knew it would bring on a squeal and make her eyes go wide

As for the dressing up in drag thing. . . the Brits are an interesting bunch. The women have. . . oh pooh, men have stags and women have. . . Is it chicken parties? I can't remember what they call them and Mr. Spice is off at the other end of the house at the moment packing away some of his music.

Anyway, they have a different name to us for the women's stag parties. Point is, they know how to have fun over there. You'd go out on a weekend and find groups of gals and groups of guys wandering around all bedecked in costumes of some sort or other. Like a group of six women (or men) wearing similar costumes. (But there were often at least a couple of such groups out) The women would be all running around dressed like devils, or in prison stripes, and the groups of males were all got up in alternate costumes or drag. So we'd be walking down the street, Mr. Spice pulling me along by the hand as I gaped at this group of apparent prison escapees, and then a block later a bunch of fallen angels, and then bearded women . . . LOL. It was certainly never boring.

OH!! HEN Party!! That's what they call the women's stag parties. Anyway, dressing up was a common occurrence there. At Christmas they had little fairy costumes and such in the stores for the kids. Costumes weren't just for Halloween over there.

Anyway, it always seemed to me that it would be more fun then our Doe parties over here.

As for how much of the stories might be autobiographical . . . you would be amazed, lol.

Lynsay

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Did you have trouble getting Dave to finally take a bath when you were married Lynsay?? Oh I love The Key

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Hmm...Lynsay, do tell

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Where Lynsay is concerned there is always a danger that anything that is said, or done, could end up appearing in one of her books.

So if Lucern Argeneau ever starts a forum for his readers...

Herr Spice

Attention: Dave...

Dave,

As Luke Arimault...a forum for His readers...Could be interesting...as long as it wasn't restricted the way I have seen in other forums...where it takes away the "fun." By that, I mean some of the "characters" have their own board on the forum...but the forum is so very strict in the interaction and there are so many rules and some of the moderators are so harsh for lack of a better word. Sorry, but your post brought about a reminder of a couple of not so happy experiences on forums.

On the other hand, some forums have little or no moderators...not always author forums...and the people are downright mean and angry and sarcastic or as they say "snarky" with each other. Even with a chronic illness, that's no excuse for bad behavior, imo. Hopefully, I never cross the line here.

I'm afraid you and Lynsay have spoiled & indulged us a lot, allowed us to be friends with you and each other, and allowed a lot of leeway in our bantering that other authors don't ...and I would rather keep the forum as is than see it become...well, not the greatest author's forum in the world as it is now.

Some forums are so strict that you might as well forget about any intelligent conversation or silly but appropriate fun. Rabbit trail topics are not allowed at all. You and Lynsay are gentle when you have to remove or end a discussion that is not suitable to the forum.

When we change the forum, please let it be the number one goal not to lose our special difference. Even when some of us disagree or whatever...we just disagree and move on...sometimes with your reminders when necessary. We notice when regular friends are missing...and we do watch out for each other. That is one reason the Getting To Know You thread is important to us. We even connect with the readers that come and go, just stopping in once in awhile to catch up. We try to be inclusive to all of Lynsay's readers...whether they prefer the historicals or the paranormals. Dave, in my limited experience with forums of any kind...that is not the norm.

People are nice here...you and Lynsay moderating keep it a warm, comfortable, friendly place. Lynsay stops in to answer questions and join in the banter as she can. You do a marvelous job at keeping us up to date and explaining things we don't understand, and moderating in a fair way. Terri does a wonderful job with the newsletters...which are fun and different from other newsletters which usually only include latest news and a possible contest on occasion...and I'm so happy the newsletters are a monthly thing, because I know they take a lot of work.

Not a smilie or nickname at all. Serious, for me...even humble, I think...although still a wordy essay.

It's just that I know not all of life is "fun." But, I know for certain that it is too short not to have a sense of humor to get you through and to lose something really special like you all have built on this forum. If you need examples, I'll be happy to email you...it's not my purpose to come across as bashing other authors or organization websites/forums.

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

HHHMMM.....a Lucern Argenaeu board! that could get intresting!!

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Wren, I don't see the philosphy of the forum changing one iota when we move on to the new software. The only reason for us doing so is to make it more secure and a little bit more user friendly.

I do know exactly what you mean about other sites - I have ventured into other forums out of personal interest and I have often found myself being appalled by the way some people behave. The mask of anonymity that the internet provides certainly doesn't always bring about the best aspects of human nature.

As far as Lynsay and I are concerned this forum will stay just as free, friendly and safe as it has always been.

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Thank you Dave. I know exactly what Wren is talking about and truly although I am big fan of some other authors I will never use their forums again.

I love this forum and I love everyone who posts to it. It is one of my favorite sites to visit.

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

I agree, this forum and the people here are great!

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

I would go to others just to get information, but have never actually talked/ posted on any other forums....This one seemed so laid back and friendly...I had to, and now I am hooked!

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

this has got to be the best board i have ever been on, I havent been here long but I love the way everyone has pretty much welcomed me with open arms. I am a stay at home mom and going through a divorce and living with my mother and her husband with my two kids i really dont have a chance to go out and hang out with friends and even when i do there isnt anyone i know that i can sit and talk about the books i read. I am kinda in a leage of my own when it come to the stuff i read. So this really give me a chance to bond with other that are interested and ejoy reading the same things i do. I am a huge book worm and I dont have anyone else that gets into the books and characters like i do to talk to. So thank you Lynsay and mr. spice for this chance to get to snow and interact with people like me

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Same for me Jennie...I'm a huge bookworm, but many of my friends are not...or they don't read "romance."
Of course, many don't read hardly anything that I read, except for my sisters and nieces...and sometimes my mother.

Being a regular on this forum is one of the best parts of being a Lynsay Sands fan...and like others have noted, I feel like Lynsay and Dave have welcomed us into their home. They and house elf Terri (Lynsay's assistant) are way ahead of any other author that I read in being in touch with the readers.

Because of the nature of this forum, and how it is a warm and comfortable place to discuss the books, follow rabbit trail topics, and "play," I have made so many good friends. I think Dave does an excellent job of moderating...allows the fun, but expects us to respect one another. If he or Lynsay have to step in and say a topic is not appropriate, it is done with gentleness and respect to the people on the forum. They have never been harsh or rude to anyone.

He also joins in with such interesting topics. Not only do we have fun, but our forum is educational...you get intelligent discussion without people being sarcastic or mean to you. Where else do you get to discuss genetics of the European monarchies, or music (hmm...I need to go look at the response to my John Lennon post...I'm still posting, so I'll take that as a good sign. ) or language...those are some of my favorites. It's a special delight when Lynsay can get away from her work long enough to post, but we know she keeps up with what is going on each day, and joins in when she has time.

Yep...good people, good forum! It's the best, wren

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

I share your opinion 100% Wren. When I first saw everyone having such a good time I had to join in. But it was more than that. I have a lot fun teasing and joking around but also I get to discuss my favorite things with people who share my interests.

It is a nice feeling.

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

jill...trust me i understand, i love our discussions....its hard to talk about psychilogical intrests and Shakspare with my 9 yo!!

I love our talks....on and off the forum!!

On the forum is really fun cause i get to do this!SmileyCentral.com

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

you can do it in the email too. As long as you put the picture or graphic and NOT the code.

I have a friend who shall remain nameless who does that every once in awhile.SmileyCentral.com

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Love the forum and everyone in it.

Thanks Mr. Spice and Lynsay for allowing us to have a good time, and constantly get off topic. But we always get back on, once someone notices our little tangent. This has been a blast, and great therapy (for me anyway), and it doesn't cost anything. I haven't laughed or smiled so much in years, and it's all thanks to everyone on the forum.

You're all awesome!!!

Stauri I have no idea what you are talking about. I never get off topic. I am the most on-topic of all my sisters. Anyone who says differently lies. All lies.

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Okay sorry. My head went all black and fuzzy on the inside and voices kept saying PIE!!! I am okay now. Thank you for the reality check. So does anyone else have any "innocent" questions?

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Ok, back to the food....

mmmmm...i have to tell you....I went down to this little british pub down the road from me. The woman is from outside London somewhere....

I had the best desert.....spotted-dick w/ warm custard. I forgot how good it is. I hadn't eaten that for almost 10 years....but then again warm vanilla custard makes everything better!!SmileyCentral.com

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Okay Gena. Now you now I'm gonna ask because it is what I do. I know what warm vanilla custard is but.......

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Umm... yeah, I want to know what it is, too.

Coincidentally, last night on the way home my son got on the topic of words they aren't allowed to use and that was the first one. He always sees the T-Mobile sign which gets him to thinking about the book title "Moby *" which he used a few time as an expletive and promptly got shut down. Oh, the thought train of an 8-yr-old.

Re: Just another "innocent" question...

Denise,

Having two sons, I can understand...but I have to admit that I chuckled at that one...(Moby ****)...had not heard that title used in quite that way before ...eight years old is an endearing age, though. I think Gena has a son around that age, too.

Btw, language and attitude doesn't really "improve" much by ages twelve and fourteen. But, I do get sweet hugs from my sons, especially when they get over being angry about whatever attitude or language I've had to correct...because I've also had to explain a few "why we don't say that word or phrase."

I grew up in a family of three girls...sometimes my dh has to remind me that whatever is going on is "boy humour!" Sometimes he is right in the middle of it all. He doesn't let it go too far though. And like his dad and mine did, he does not allow them to show disrespect to their mother...that is a major "lose your priviledges" offense.

Boys...yeah, they really are wonderful!

wren

Re: Just another "innocent" question...
