SWV, TDH, LB question

Any chance of these being picked up by Avon and republished? I'd love to have copies of them with similar covers to the others. Are they out of print yet?

Re: SWV, TDH, LB question

Denise, I don't if they are out of print, but all my copies from Amazon.com. Way after their release date.

Re: SWV, TDH, LB question

Unfortunately the rights to these books remain with Dorchester and are likely to stay that way for the forseeable future.

They are out of stock in many places at present and although they will be reprinted, we don't actually know when.

Re: SWV, TDH, LB question

Thanks for the update Mr. Spice. I have a few friends that want to get these.

Re: SWV, TDH, LB question

Yeah, I think Dorchester will do everything it can to make sure they keep the rights to those three now that the sales have started taking off. I knew SWV and LB were on backorder because I tried to order a copy for my sister. And unfortunately, the new copies that we get are no longer foil embossed covers. That bugs me when they charge the same amount or more for a 3rd or 4th printing and you don't get the same cover treatment.

Re: SWV, TDH, LB question

I think you've hit the nail squarely on the head.

Re: SWV, TDH, LB question

I just ordered Love Bites and SWV from Barnes and Noble and they said that SWV is being reprinted but expected to ship around mid-March and Love Bites is out of stock (in Barnes and Nobles warehouses, I guess) and they have to order more from the publisher.

There are other places online that people can find used copies at but I don't think Lynsay benefits as much that way so only do this if you need the copy in time for a birthday present. Give someone the first book and get them hooked on the series! I have already read the two copies that I need so I am going to wait so that Lynsay receives her percentage or whatever compensation she gets.

Mr. Spice, or Lynsay, how does that work exactly? Is there a small percentage for each book paid or is there something for every so many copies sold? Do you get this in addition to a lump sum or advance when the rights to the books are sold?

That's a shame that Avon can't reprint the older books with new matching covers. Is there an expiration date for the other company's rights to the earlier books?

Re: SWV, TDH, LB question

I ahd to order LOVE BITES! the rest are around if you look, but for some rason LOVE BITES was out everywhere. It took me a month to get Barns and noble to get it in for me!

G3 but now ETIENE IS MINE!!!

Re: SWV, TDH, LB question

Kim,

The publishing business pays an author an advance against royalties - meaning a certain amount is paid to the author before the book is published. This advance amount will be deducted from the portion the author will receive as a percentage of the cover price of each new book sold, until the original advanced amount has been recovered by the publisher.

Authors don't receive anything at all from the sale of used books and which is why the used book marketplace isn't popular among writers.

There is no expiry date on book contracts. In fact if you read the wording on the majority of contracts regarding the return of the author's rights you'll find it's almost impossible for an author to ever get them back.

On something like the three Argeneau's still with Dorchester I can't ever see them letting go. Having said that I also can't believe that they could possibly allow them to slip out of print at the very time the books are in such high demand.

Re: SWV, TDH, LB question

Does Lynsay have to work directly with the publishers or does she have an agent? If you wanted to find out if they are reprinting more of the first books, would they tell you if you called them up? Or are they holding a grudge for Lynsay switching publishers (and becoming such a success!) and refusing to return your calls?
