So I am tossing and turning last night and I had one question pop into my meager brain. Well actually I had a lot of things race through my brain last night but this question is actually is pertinent. Why Atlantis?
Not that I am questioning Lynsay's genius. I was just curious why she chose to have the Vampires (sorry Immortals) come from Atlantis?
I absolutely love that there is a scientific reason for the Argeneau race. I prefer that then to the "walking dead" theory although I do have other vampire series in my book collection who lean to that side instead.
I was just wondering if there was something that made her decide to go that route for her books.
Well whatever the reason I love them. Hope I didn't offend anyone by my presumptiousness
As a 'lost' civilisation Atlantis makes a plausible source for the origin of the vampire race in the Argeneau series in that with it being an island it allows the inhabitants to have their own scientific advancement and yet still remain isolated from the rest of the world.
If Lynsay had picked somewhere in the Roman Empire, or in ancient Greece, the close proximity and access to the rest of the world wouldn't have allowed for the possibility of one part of the human race to have developed technology so far in advance of the rest without there having been some exchange of ideas and outside knowledge of the differences.
Using Atlantis also allows for the destruction of the actual island and the advanced technology along with it, while allowing some of the people to survive and to retain the beneficial effects of the technology even though they no longer access to what created it in the first place.
Most stories about Atlantis are about how far advanced they were. Even on the History Channel they do documentaries about it. It is very interesting with all the theory's people come up with.
Makes it more believable. Having the story begin there.
Makes you wonder did it exist??? (Like Santa and the M&M's)
I can believe that it did exist. Plato wrote about it and described in detail and even though some critics say he made it up, it seems more than plausible that this advanced civilization was real.
It does make you wonder what else exists. Thanks for the explanation, Mr. Spice.
If I recall Plato's teachings were instrumental in shaping mathematics and science today. Maybe he wrote so much about the Atlantians because he was one?
And if he was one, perhaps there are more decendants out there from Atlantis living among us? Makes you look at people around you differently, huh.....
I always liked the idea of taking part in a DNA based study of population origins. It would be fascinating to see what turns up in my family history in addition to what I already know.
The explanation of Atlantis for the immortals makes the scientific reason for the nanos believable. It also makes it funny when Lynsay is able to use it to show how various vampire "myths" came about!
Yep, our Mrs. Spice is a Genius! The Argeneaus are simply the best paranormal romance series to read because of her, and since Vampires Are Forever hit #3 on the NYT bestseller list, that is more than just my opinion!
That is interesting thought Mr. Spice. But when you say population origins, do mean how a certain civilizations came into being or how they survived?
Wren - You are absolutely right. Mrs. Spice is a genius, and not only because her science sounds credible, but she always leaves her audience wanting more. A true artist.
Jill, no, what I'm really thinking of is individual origins. For example, take my own family origins. My father was Scottish although our family name is French. I always assumed his side of the family had arrived in Scotland at the time of the Jacobite rebellion and were descended from French mercenaries fighting with their old allies, the Scots, and who simply hadn't returned home after the fighting ended. It turns out I was wrong and that the origin of our arrival in England was with the Norman invasion of 1066.
DNA analysis of populations would provide some interesting statistics of where we all originated could shed some light on what there is in our genetic make-up. I know for sure I have English, Scottish and French blood. I quite possibly have a strand of my family who were gypsies - and who knows what else. It would be fascinating to find out if my DNA leads back to the Roman Empire, or perhaps Greece, ancient Egypt or even Atlantis... you never know.
It would be equally fascinating to find all of those people who have close DNA matches and are actually related to me. Hey, Lynsay's family have a link to Scotland, perhaps we're distantly related. Perhaps we all are.
It's just another one of my pet obsessions, really, along with when I mentioned language in an earlier thread. It's part of the ties that bind us all together and I always believe deserves further investigation.
Dave there is a study. Started by a Scottish heritage group. They only do the Paternal side. So no chicks allowed. We had my Uncle do it. We sent his DNA.
Since he is the oldest surviving male. My family is Scottish Irish and German.
It does just what you were talking about. I goes way back. It kinda traces where you ansestors came from.
If you want the link I will check with the cousins.
I like would like to trace our genealogy in are family. My father's side came from Poland, (his father emigrated to the United States in 1926 when he was 4), he lost track of his family history when they came over.
My mother's side is Irish and English. My mother always said, she was told that some where along the way we were related to English royalty. I always wonder if there was a way to trace that to prove it is true or not.
Mr Spice and Wren......It took me a while to get the link to the DNA Study. But here ya go

GENIUS!! GENIUS!!! I love you all!! You all have to move in with us right away. LOL. Seriously, it wasn't genius, just creative problem solving. I needed advanced science as an explanation rather than soulless deadless stuff, and Atlantis was the only ancient, advanced place I could come up with. Well, that or that's the story Jean Claude told me while once in his cups. (evil grin)
Hope your orbs are up and running...pick up me, C1, and J4 on the way. You may have some others hitching a ride...or maybe Lynsay can just send an Argeneau corporate jet for all of us at once.
Who wants to go to Canada and have a Lynsay's SASSy
AREGENEAUT convention? I'm not kidding here...I really want to go!
Lynsay, Ohhhh If I move in that means Dearly Demonic Dexter (he has been upgraded from Devoted), My insane but loveable cat and my poor pathitic needy dog comes too. LOL I still say it genius! Its the best "story" background. Good thing JC couldnt hold his drink.
Mr Spice ohh the rightful king... Do I get a castle?
and Cindy you are welcome.
Jill it looks like they will test females. And the Scottish one you have to pay more. I am not sure which one they tested my uncle for. I have seen the results and it makes a little sence. But I dont get alot of it. 3rd generation from Scotland and all the stuff it tell us. There Are "Bairds" we are related to al over the place. Kind of neat but I would like to understand it more. The next time I visit PA. We are going to sit down and try to understand it more.
Hope it helps.
W2 that is a fantastic idea. We could raid her office or library in search of new manuscripts she is working on. One of the sisters would have to create a distraction while the others go looking for the lastest Mrs. Spice treasure.
Linda -Thanks for the info. I was interested in checking it myself.
