Jodi -Yellowknife

Jodi,

I remember you had said that you lived in Yellowknife, Canada. I asked my coworker (she is from Quebec) where that was exactly. She knew exactly where it was. She has this picture on her computer desktop that she received from her brother. I'm sure if he lives there too or not, but the picture was of a tent with a lantern inside that made it glow. It was night but the sky was emerald green. It the northern lights that totally dominated the night sky. It was breathtaking.

Do you ever get to see the northern lights from where you are? Also the thermometer read -40 degrees. I didn't know if it was Farenheit or Celsius but it still sounds cold.

P.S. I hope it is okay to put this question out there even if it isn't about the Argeneuas?

Re: Jodi -Yellowknife

Jill
Yes I can see the northern lights out on my deck when they are out, although it has been too cold lately to go out. Our coldest day has been -56. today isn't that bad we are at -34. Yellowknife is big in tourism due to the northern lights the biggest group to come here is the Japanese who believe it is good luck to conceive under the northern lights

Re: Jodi -Yellowknife

You must have some really funny stories to tell if conception is a reason for tourism.

Come on! Share!

Re: Jodi -Yellowknife

I used to work in a couple of the hotels up here, I had asked one of the tour guides why the Japanese came all this way and she told me about their belief of it being good luck to conceive under the northern lights, I had to laugh because they were all bundled up in one piece red snowsuits, big heavy boots and hats and scarves so that you could only see their eyes. I can't say that I ever asked any of them if they had tried but who knows?

Re: Jodi -Yellowknife

Mr Spice,
You live in Canada, so where in Canada have you visited?

Re: Jodi -Yellowknife

Not very much of it, I'm afraid. Much of Southern Ontario and some parts above Toronto - and that's about the shameful extent of it. The truth is I've probably covered much more of the USA that I have of Canada. I'm sure that will change soon enough, though.

Re: Jodi -Yellowknife

I got to see a lot of Canada when we moved up here 10 almost 11 years ago. My dad was in the military and was posted up here. We drove from Nova Scotia all the way up to Yellowknife. Lets just say it was interesting to see so many different places but it is not something I think I will ever do again, although my parents made the return trip when they left. much easier to fly

Re: Jodi -Yellowknife

From what I have seen and read Nova Scotia seems like a beautiful place to live or visit. I was always curious about Prince Edward Island though. Have you ever been there?

Re: Jodi -Yellowknife

Jill, no I haven't been to PEI but a cousin of mine used lived there for a time and she really liked it. In my opinion and I might be just a bit biased, Nova Scotia is one of the most beautiful places in Canada, we lived in the Valley which has beautiful apple blossoms and is so green, that might sound a bit strange to say but living in Yellowknife which is mostly rock, I miss grass and trees and I can't tell you how excited I was to show my son and daughter cows and horses!

Re: Jodi -Yellowknife

Okay Jodi I am going to show my ignorance of your wonderful country. I thought Nova Scotia was mostly coastal. I am assuming I am wrong though from what you just posted. Could you enlighten me a little.

Re: Jodi -Yellowknife

Jill, I lived in the Annapolis Valley which is on the west side and is mostly farming, actually I lived on an air base in Greenwood but all around was farming. They have an Apple Blossom festival every spring. It depends on where you go, my parents are currently living in Milford which is closer to Truro, Halifax, Dartmouth area. Do a search on Nova Scotia the valley and it will describe it a bit better than me
