everyone mates are listed next to them (including Thomas and Inez in the latest novel...Victor and Elvi etc) but Lucian doesn't have Leigh next to him. It has 'Bite me if you can' under his name...but nothing about Leigh. Am I missing something?
Cindy... I love it! A fold out tree, would end all the problems!! (Piper, problem solver is so your personality!...plus you get to blow things up! )
-p.s.= if the Enforcer books take off, (like I know they will! ) will need to have one in their books as well, and since there are so many of them they can all get incorperated!
We are looking at making sure the family tree is updated and correct for the next set of books.
I'm not sure if the publisher would consider a fold out version - they don't like doing anything which might cost them money .
Another possiblity is to consider a separate printed family tree as a promotional item - I'll add it to my list of things to investigate further and perhaps I'll also mention it to the boss and see what she thinks.
Some authors put a full version of the family trees of their popular series on their websites. So while they may just have the basic group in the books, they can show future or connected books (such as friends, enforcers) on the tree. Often they are designed where readers can print them out!
I have seen some of the family trees made where a number was put above or by each couple (representing which book it is in the reading order) and a list of numbers is at the bottom of the page with the title of the book by the number. That is especially helpful in series that start to get as long as the Argeneaus, and are expected to continue.
For example, using books of authors I read & keep, on Julia Quinn's Bridgerton Family Tree, there is a notation at the bottom of the page such as "For Extended Family Tree" or "For More Information, Please Visit WWW.JULIAQUINN.COM" or something to that effect. I know that not all the "children" born to the eight Brigerton siblings are listed on the family tree in the books.
On Stephanie Laurens The Cynster Family Tree, the novels are numbered at the bottom at the page as I described, with the correct number placed above each couple. An * denotes twins. So Leigh could be connected to Lucien, if a new way was devised to denote that he & Jean Claude are twins. If (twins) was removed, then there would be room to connect Lucien with his lifemate. A symbol could be chosen, then a note could be on the bottom of the page so that people would know that it meant "twins." Then, if any future "twins" had books, there would already be a way to note it. (And we already know of the Notte twins that the SASSy-Argeneauts want to read about)
Also, it is on The Cynster Family Tree under the twins notation at the bottom of the page that "children born after 1825 not shown." After all, as families expand, you can put it on the website, but even fold-outs are not going to be big enough to hold everything. Fold outs would be nice for now, but I would prefer that Avon went more with Lynsay's choices in titles and symbols and a notation for her website, or as you suggested, a publicity poster of the family tree or something like that! That's jmho!
Just wondering, did Jean Claude die in 1995 or in 1945? I thought there was a post a long time ago asking if his dates were correct.
I believe I may have seen Victoria Alexander's Effington's Family Tree just on her website, because I can't find it in my books. It shows "friends" that have books connected to the family, so that you know they are a related part of the series, but not members of the family itself. With enforcers and friends that may have books, that might be a good way to show the connection to the Argeneaus. Also, she has a family that is connected to the Effingtons, but it shows their connection as a family...like you may would do with the Nottes. These are just some ideas of the ways I've seen some of the family trees handled.
All of the authors are published by Avon, also. There are three authors that I buy ALL of their work...that is Lynsay, Victoria Alexander, and Julia Quinn. There are a few that I buy as I can afford them (such as Stephanie Laurens, or Lisa Kleypas...I like the time of Prinny and the Regency of England a lot or Hannah Howell...I also like Scottish Medievals) although I would like to have their books. Those that I can't keep or read more than once, I go to the library or Inter-Library Loan or try to catch it on the bargain/clearance table. I got over the dark paranormals & lost interest in most of those authors, and other than Lynsay, will only read a couple of the other lighthearted paranormals if they are fairly well done. I'm afraid Lynsay has spoiled me for the others!
When you click on the link to view the tree it is in a picture format. Therefore it can not be added to. Thought maybe I could save it then make the change to Jean Claude's death for my information. That is how I found out. I can manipulate windows to some degree, but not to that extent. As for the Superbowl, hubby gets home the day before and will be rooting for the Patriots.
WHAT? Leo is rooting for the Patriots? Right now, I could really use one of your active powers! I shall have to be nice, as he is obviously in his mixed-up Avatar phase!
Actually, through the season I really don't watch the games, just kind of keep up with things through the family. But NO, NO, NO Patriots!
GO, GO, GO Giants!!!
P2 of AE3
P.S. My sister Sherri will be pleased! She is kind of outnumbered in the family right now...but she knows it's going to take some really good playing on the Giants part to beat the Patriots!
I'm still learning soooo much about computers. There is no way I could figure out how to manipulate Windows or do the family tree. But, I have confidence that you & Mr. Spice will figure it out!
Ah, no, Gena, but too bad about the personal gain rule. After all, I do have two-cents and "bragging rights" at stake here! Too bad you can't orb us all to the game, though. Alas, that falls under personal gain too, and if we are going to break the rules, it's going to be to get hold of our beloved Argeneaus and not football!
Wren....Is itreally personal ain if our "Argeanaeu men" really wanted to go to the game??? I think we would be making someone else happy!!
***GIVE ME TIME AND I CAN REASON ANYTHING OUT****
To answer the initial question - The family tree inaccuracies are, once again, the responsibility of the publisher.
They received a revised and accurate version of the family tree well before these books were printed - so why they were printed using a superceded copy is something of a mystery.
Wren, Don't worry I will take the fall, if we get caught!
Mr. Spice, You do so much already, I can't believe you don't have time to babysit everyone else while they are putting the books together.
in case you don't get my smart alek sence of humor, I was
****just kidding****
It seems like a classic case of the right hand dosn't know what the left hand is doing!
Sometimes all you can do is to blame the computer! I did some proofreading and page lay-out work for a geology magazine once and we had a lot of tables and graphs that would undergo a lot of revision sometimes. So we would make the substitutions and then somehow when we had to edit the text of the article around it, sometimes the older version of the graph would end up back!
I could never understand why this would happen. I was taught on the job and just took it for granted that if you did A and B, then C would follow. If it didn't then I asked for help and the editor would fix it. They didn't have time to get into a detailed explanation of what they did to fix the problem. However, on occasion we totally messed up and even though we had 3 to 4 people who would proofread the article, we wouldn't realize that the original table had jumped back in there. Not until the magazine had been printed and the author of the article called up to loudly complain!
Now I have no idea if something similar is to blame in this case but I'm just saying that it probably isn't because the publisher didn't get the revised material or just didn't care. It's just the fact that those gremlins are always out there trying to make things go wrong. What's the saying again? Murphy's Law, "anything that can go wrong will go wrong". And then I think there is another, Finnegan's Law (I think) "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, at the worst possible moment!" Luckily an imcomplete family tree is small potatoes compared to what could possible happen. An entire page or even chapter could have gone astray leading to the recall of thousands of copies of books and poor us having to wait even longer for Thomas' book.
However, now that they are aware of the problem, they better fix it for future editions! Just give us their e-mail Mr. Spice, we'll take care of it!
hey just wondering but Lynsay or MR.Spice are u going to put a complete copy of the family tree on the website also on the complete one dose it say Lucian's girls names on it i would like to know them if u can tell me
I will have Tori the house elf (aka Terri the lovely assistant) get together an all encompassing family tree to post on the website for your perusal. I keep meaning to do it but . . . sigh. So, hopefully she can.
The family tree on the website is the Avon tree. My own family tree was . . . er. . . not as professional looking (I am wincing and grimacing at the understatement here)
Anyway, we are presently trying to find some sort of program to make our own family tree, one that will have the correct dates on it AND look professional. I'll move it to the top of the list of priorities, or at least closer to the top, right after these corrections and the next vamp book due.
Delayed release times, we don't have Vampire Interrupted in Australia yet, its being released this month so probably 2 or 3 weeks yet until its out. Books have to be shipped from the US so thats about 2 weeks for US deliveries.
