Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I was really trying to wait until the release date, however my mother knew who much I wanted to read Thomas's story and boughtthe book for me.
Because the release date isn't for another week, or so I thought? She found it at BOOKS-A-Million! She got hers yestaurday, and bought another for me today.
Don't know if there is anything you can do, but I wanted to let you know.
G. part of p3, can't wait to read Vampire are forever, but felt a little guilty having it early!!!

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I have it early too Gena--it called to me from its place on the shelf at barns and noble.

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

wait, the book came out early?!? and you got it from barnes and nobel. no way! i didn't think they did that. o i want to read it too, i've been waiting for thomas's story

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I found a copy at Books-A-Million tonight and was going to say something too but it seems I was beat!

I saw it and freaked out with a little happy squeal I'm sure the whole store heard. I'm going to be good and wait until next weekend to read it though (no pesky interruptions like work). I'll have Thomas all to myself... heehee

I was thrilled to see it because no one around me put The Accidental Vampire out until WAY after the release date, so it was a shock to see Vampires are Forever out EARLY.

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

You guys are lucky. Borders here has it in but will not put it out until the release date. Just hope they do not do what they did last month. I went in to pick it up (had it reserved) and was told I had already picked it up. {P3 wanted to blow up somebody} Finally had to go looking on all the book carts with stock on. Now remember ladies NO SPOILERS YET.

Cindy

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

It's happened dozens of times Andera where I've find books out earlier then their release date at BN AND Borders.

They put A Loving Scoundrel (Johanna Lindsey novel) out like...a week early once

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Lynsay,
Mr.Spice had said if they put the books out early it dosn't count for your total sales!! As excited as I am to have it) is there something that needs to be done?? I would hate to not give you all the props you deserve.

G. ---part of p3, who is slowly turning into Angelic Enforcers ( what say you Cindy?)

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Okay. Angelic Enforcers

AE3 signing out

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Gena,

We could always buy the book again, an author like Lynsay deserves it =)

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

You guys are so lucky! My Barnes and Noble say that they probably won't get it in until Feb 2nd! I checked a few stores while I was running errands but no luck for me.

To help Lynsay's sales, you could always go back and return it and rebuy it. The clerks would think you a bit crazy but maybe it would be worth it? Or those who find it early and feel guilty could buy a second copy and donate it to your local library so that more people might have access to it. (It could help sales of other books in the series as people read it and then rush out to find the rest in the series!) Make sure if you do, you specify that it is for the bookshelf and not their used book sale. Request a dedication sticker to put in the front of the book just to make sure.

Kim (who is fighting the urge to drive out to Wal-mart to see if they have it out for sale yet!)

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Okay, I have to admit, it was at my Wal-Mart and I caved. Starting it tonight.

Why don't they have a program that holds all the early purchases in reserve and then processes them all on the release date?

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Well everybody....
---> bad news I am weak and have already started reading it!!

--->However, the good new is I have three of my famiy members who want it for birthdays...so I will be buying them also, (but not until the date they are supposed to come out!)

G.

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Kim,

I think your idea of buying a copy for the library bookshelf and requesting a dedication sticker inside is a wonderful idea. My library has some of Lynsay's historicals, but none of the Argeneaus the last time I checked. In the past, I have donated a lot of books that were new (I was the only one who had read them) and they did put them on the shelf. They usually laminate the paperback covers for added strength, and they put a heart symbol on the book and it goes on the "new books" shelf first. Our library is not large, so I know their budget only stretches so far for each genre in addition to nonfiction and children's books that they can purchase each year.

I think that may have to become my worthy cause!
I couldn't buy books all the time, but I could check and see which authors they are getting in and try to get a "new" book they have written once in awhile!

wren

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Well, I didn't find a copy put out early anywhere in my area. But I did learn something new that is interesting regarding my local library. If there is a book that you really want to read but due to spending limits cannot afford to buy at the moment, it doesn't hurt to ask if your librarian can order it!

I actually found this out because of my kids. I checked out an audiobook collection of Robert Munsch. (If you have children under the age of 10 you might want to look for this. The author of the books does the narrations and he used to be a storyteller before he wrote the books so he is just excellent.) Anyway, there is another audiobook of some of his other books but no other library in our system (interlibrary loan) had it. So I suggested to the children's librarian that they might want to consider buying it. And she said sure, she always welcomes suggestions, especially for audiobooks and music CDs because there aren't many reviews out there for kid stuff. I asked if you could request or suggest anything that you wanted and she said they were always happy to try and meet the patrons' needs.

So my husband saw a book reviewed in the Wall Street Journal that he would like to read. It wasn't available through the library and it wasn't the kind of book that he would reread so he didn't want to buy it. So I thought, it doesn't hurt to ask and the children's librarian did say it was okay... So I checked on it with a librarian upstairs (where I don't know anyone because I have 3 kids under the age of 8 who don't seem to be able to keep quiet in the Adult section for more than 5 minutes so I put all my books on hold through the computer so I can just pick them up at the check-out desk ) and she said "No problem. If it is available for order I'll go ahead. So she checked, it was, and she even asked for my card number and put it on hold for me so I'll be the first to get it when it arrives.

Isn't this great? They have some of Lynsay's historicals at my local library but none of her Argeneau series. When I first began reading the series I had to send for them through interlibrary loan and then (once I became hooked!) buy the ones that weren't available. I think I'm going to suggest they buy the ones that no other library has and then I'm going to have to think of what else I can have my library buy for me! I just don't have the budget to buy every book that I want to read and the library doesn't always have them. I never realized it could be so easy.

Kim

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I find it really hard to find books were I live. I haven't even seen an Argeneau book here yet but I am still looking. We have a Wal-Mart and Extra Foods store that I buy books from but it isn't a very good selection, we do have one bookstore but it caters more to plants and animal type books. I have found some of Lynsay's historical books at a flea market put on by one of the churches here but other than that I have my mom looking for some where she lives, hopefully she will be able to find the series for me.

Jodi

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Jodi, I'd be happy to find them for you and mail them. If you are in the US, Media Mail is pretty cheap, much cheaper than you'll pay for an online purchase shipping.

Or have you tried Wal-Mart.com? Someone told me in another thread that they ship to your store at no additional cost. You might try that.

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Thanks Denise but I live in Yellowknife, NT in Canada. I tried going to the Wal-Mart website but the Canadian site didn't have any books only the American and I find that it costs too much.

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I went onto the Wal-mart site and they don't even ship to Canada from the US

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Jodi,

email me. I have three of The Accidental Vampire (kind of happened by accident getting 3 )

We will find a way to get you your books!

wren...your fellow SASSy ARGENEAUT!

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Thanks Wren I just sent you an email with my info.

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

And, Jodi, I can mail 4 books at a time for $8.55, if you get desperate and have to have them.

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Well right now I am starting to feel desperate as I keep reading what everyone is saying about these books and I don't know what is going on but the books sound really good. I might ask my mom if she can find them where she is but that could take awhile because my Grandmother is just getting out of the hospital tomorrow, she had to go in for emergency by-pass(don't know if that is how you spell it) surgery and my mom will be looking after her when she isn't working. But thank you Denise I will keep it in mind.

Jodi

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Jodi,

I'm curious, when you say you haven't read these books, do you mean the entire series or just the new ones? If you haven't read any of the Argeneau series, Wow!, are you ever in for a treat when you finally do.

Another good place to hunt for the books is through E-bay. I bought a couple that way once and pretty much just paid about $1 for the books, the rest was the shipping charge.

Kim

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Yea, your right about EBAY! I have found a few on there, also.....If you look at WWW.BARNSANDNOBLE.com ( the book store have a used/out of print section, you can find it there to, although that one isn't as well known, so you have to keep looking. (i would trust the though, because they actually have a screening process befor they will let you sell on there)

hope this helps a little,
G. 3 of AE3

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I've just been reading back through the thread and noticed the post from Jodi in Yellowknife. You could order the books through Chapters online website(http://www.chapters.indigo.ca) - or even Amazon's Canadian subsidiary, although I always hesitate to recommend the latter as they seem to have very little in stock and it's usually quicker to order from the US.

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Kim, no I haven't read any of the books in this series. I have read some of Lynsay's historicals but that is all I have been able to find. I tried e-bay but I found that the shipping costs were crazy as every book seemed to come from the states and when you put in shipping to Canada the book prices went up from $1.00 and there wasn't as much of a selection. I find it hard to rationalize buying a book and paying so much for shipping not to mention what my husband would have to say about it! Maybe I am not looking in the right places which could be the case as I am new to this and haven't ordered things online before, so I will try out your suggestions. Thanks guys!

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Well, you are in for a treat when you do read the books. You mentioned that there is a bookstore in your town. Aren't they able to special order the books for you? I know that the big chain bookstores are able to but even an independent bookstore should be able to have your stuff added on to whatever order they place. Just ask, you might be pleasantly surprised. Also, check with your library. Do they have interlibrary loan? They could see if any other libraries have the books. Or you could also donate the books to the library. Have them order the books and you pay for them! Most librarians are eagar to help, you just have to ask. But make sure your name is first on the hold list! I hope this helps.

Kimberly

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Thanks Kim. There is a small bookstore here which I have to admit I don't go into often, not only do they not have much of a selection but the prices are crazy but I should go and check because I think that the price of books in Canada has gone down, now I might be wrong about that and Mr. Spice you might know about this but I am sure I heard something about that.

Jodi

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Jodi, yes, prices of books have dropped in Canada due to the relative strength of the Loonie.

I'd definitely have a look at Chapters website and also perhaps compare with the cost from Amazon.com.

I do this all the time and even sometimes order from Amazon.co.uk - it all depends on who has the best deals once the mailing costs are factored in.

Having said all that I still can't go to the local Chapters branch without walking out with an armful of tempting treats so in reality I probably don't save anything at all.

Dave

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Thanks Mr.Spice!

I guess it just comes down to how much you are willing to spend on a book. So how about it everyone? how much would you spend on a book? where do you draw the line?

Jodi

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

lol Line what line.............

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

It depends on the book and who it's written by! Also if it is one in a series that I have been waiting a long time for, like the Harry Potter books. I bought all of those in hardcover. I had to find out what happened next!

If Lynsay's Argeneau books started coming out in hardcover, I would buy them rather than wait, probably would be willing to spend up to $25 to $30. However, Stephanie Laurens's new book in the Cynster series just switched from paperback to hardcover and I am going to wait on that one. It isn't about anyone in the main family, two secondary characters, and I never fell in love with the series the same way as I did Lynsay's.

Kim

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I had a quick question about book sales. I purchase a lot of my books via Amazon.com. But they aren't always new. I can get used books cheaper through other sellers on that website.

Does that type of purchase affect Lynsay's sales negatively?

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Used books don't count as sales in any way, shape or form.

Dave

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Oh, I'm sorry. I never even realized. I'll make sure I try to buy new when they offer so she gets credit.

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I don't usually buy hardbacks. It depends on the author and the books. Like Kim, I have all the J.K. Rowling "Harry Potter" books in hardcover, some in paperback, and the first and last in audioCD. We were very fond of Harry Potter around here.

I would buy Lynsay's books in hardcover, although I prefer paperbacks. If they were published in hardcover, I would like for the publishers to release all of them in hardcover so that I could get them all.

Also, I can get the books through my local bookstore, so I don't have to worry about shipping costs. That is a big consideration. For example, where Jodi lives in Canada, shipping costs can eat up her book budget in a hurry. That is another reason I support my little bookstore...they can get the books for me without shipping, extra taxes, etc.

wren

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I'm always afraid to buy hardcover because I am very hard on my books. Most of my books look well read. I feel less guilty beating up a paperback then a hardcover.

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I buy the paperbacks because I only keep my favorite authors and I can stretch my book budget. Also, when I share books with others, if they don't come back, I'm not out the price of a hardback book.

Many of the romance authors that I read are not published in hardback, and I seldom buy the hardbacks if the publisher switches...which means I have to wait longer to have my own copy or try to get it at the library. So, I guess my main reasons are that the hardbacks cost more than I can afford and I don't have a place to store all the books. We tend to buy hardbacks only as gifts at birthdays and Christmas.

I would buy Lynsay's books in hardcover, because I keep those and I don't share them. You only get to read my copy if you are at my house. I buy them as gifts for my sisters and friends who enjoy them. I'm picky about all my "keeper" books that way! These are the books that I read over and over, so I don't lend them out. It may seem a bit selfish, but I have found that I've had to replace books too often when I have loaned them to someone. They either "forget" or loan it to someone else, and the book is either lost or simply never comes back to me. My dh is generous about our buying books, but I can't replace books all the time, kwim? Well, I'll get off of my about it, because I'm sure you get the idea.

wren

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

It's not selfish not to share somethings. I am the same way about loaning books that I love out. You can't always guarentee that you will get them back.

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Wren

I know what you mean. Right now I am waiting until July to get the soft cover of a book in another collection I have. The hardback has been out for a year now. But sometimes it is worth the wait.

C1 (who just found out that one of her books is out because of W2 Thanks sis)

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I also prefer paperback to hardcover. there is the cost issue aswell as I just like the feel of a paperback it is more comfortable. I do have some hardcovers but I bought most of them at the flea market and they are really cheap
Wren-I wouldn't say that you are selfish at all about what books you lend out. I lent a friends mom a book once and it was from a series and I never got it back so I had to go out and buy it again so that I had the full series.

Jodi

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

yea, i gave my cousin 2 of my argenaeu books and never got them back....i had to go out and buy hem again. not going to do that again.

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Jodi,

I like the feel of a paperback book better also, and so does my son. You are right, it is more comfortable. If it's a special series, I'll get the hardcovers if I can, just to make them last.

wren

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I like the size of a paperback (just fits in my hands better) plus they aren't as heavy. If I am going to the park, beach, plane ride, etc., I'd much rather carry a few lightweight paperbacks around than the hardcovers.

Kim

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I agree, Kim. Seems like paperbacks have a lot going for them among our group!

wren

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

I just bought myself three new paperbacks today! I would have bought more but Barnes and Noble didn't have the books I wanted in stock so I will have to wait . I bought the last two that I needed to complete my set of Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series and Tall, Dark and Hungry. I wanted to get Single White Vampire and Love Bites but they only had two copies of The Accidental Vampire on the shelf and but they found TDH in the back after it showed up on the computer. So I had to order them. They'll probably show up around the same time as Vampire, Interrupted. Then I'll have the whole set.

I gave the salesclerks who helped me a quick sell on stocking more of Lynsay's books. I told them that with her next book about to be released, people who came in to buy it would be interested in buying more in the series and they would make more money if they had some in stock for those impulse buys. I also mentioned how her last book released (Vampires Are Forever) made it onto the bestseller list for mass-market paperbacks. The clerk wrote down Lynsay's name and seemed pretty interested.

I did my part today to help Lynsay's book sales. *modestly pats myself on the back* Actually it was out of self-interest. The more popular she becomes, the more Argeneau books there will be in the future for me to read!

Kimberly

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Kim

That means you made a turn. Way to go. I do the same whenever I go into Borders also. We have to support our favorite author. That way Avon will want her to write more.

C1

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

that makes me feel sad since i have yet to make a turn i am trying to turn my mom but wright now she is wraped in a book about a soap oprea that she watches. it's realy hard for me to turn other people since my peers are 12-13 years old and my family is not as into reading as i am

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Hey, you are doing alright, PuppyLover. Some young people your age have not learned the joys of reading yet. Just hang in there, and you will find a friend interested in reading something new and you will make your first "turn."

Welcome, Vivian to the SASSy ARGENEAUTS, official fan forum friends of Lynsay Sands. (SASS standsy for Sands and Spice Society!) Hope you have as much fun as we all do.

wren

Re: Lynsay, Mr. Spice..a little heads up!

Wren,
you are so right about that!
I really didn't start reading A LOT, untill I was a year into college.

Puppylover,
I think its great you like to read, I wish I started earlier.

As far as the SOFTcover vs, HARDcover debate:
I too prefer the softcovers....I like to rad while I am lying down and it makes it easier to hold.SmileyCentral.com

When I read something in hardcover, It reminds me of schoo, Like I have to sit at a desk.SmileyCentral.com
