I keep reading that New Amsterdam is coming on fox. Each time it is postponed. Now it seems that it will be Premiering February 22, 2008, on FOX. It really does look like a good show. If they will ever air it.

New York City homicide detective John Amsterdam is cursed with immortality because he stopped the murder of a Native Indian girl in 1642 by stepping in front of a sword. Due to this act of kindness, the Indian girl rescued Amsterdam from the stab wound by making him immortal, but warns that it is a curse that will only be lifted when John meets his true love.



Now, Amsterdam is a homicide detective in the Big Apple where he shares his secret with Omar, a blues club owner with a few secrets of his own. John is partnered up with Eva Marquez and gets into a chase with a suspect. When he suffers what appears to be a heart attack and is revived by ER doctor Sara Dillane, he realizes that mortality may be closer then he thought.



New Amsterdam is produced by Laha Films, Regency Television, Sarabande Productions and Scarlet Fire Productions. FOX originally planned to premiere it in September '07; however, it will now be a midseason replacement.

I think Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (John Amsterdam) might fit into the Argenau world very nicely!

The premise seems a little limited though.

Hmmm, Happy now, may start watching TV again, was peeved when they stopped with new episodes of Moonlight. But wouldn't have found the Argeaneaus had the Writer's not gone on strike. So yeah for the writer's strike.

I will have to Tivo the show, since I will be late coming home from the gym tonight. Or thinking should I miss the gym!?!

I have to say I was sort of disappointed in it although I'll give it another try or two.

It's very distracting when the lead actor's accent keeps slipping.

And I still don't see how the series can have any longevity based on the premise of finding one's "true love." If he finds her the series is over and if he keeps missing her then it's simply frustrating and repetitive.

Does anyone know if he has any "enhancements" other than immortality? If he keeps getting near his soulmate, the heart attacks and walking up in the morgue could get a little awkward, to say the least.

I agree, it wasn't what I expected and I thought there was something wrong with my tv, when his accent kept changing. I guess it wasn't. I will give it a few more tries.

Did notice that some of the material reflected the Highlander series (i.e. previous love with either memory loss, amnesia, Altzheimers, etc) recognizing him.

May get more interesting, since apparently he's had children, and most of the past immortal series they can not have children, especially with a non-immortal.

ok, so they changed the night that this is on and apparently I have already missed one show! I went to fox and tried to download the episode I missed and a message came up saying that downloads are currently only available in the States!
What did I miss!!!

As for enhancements, I think it says he bascally just has his knowledge of being alive for so long to wrk with him.

I think they had a few pre-taped but with the strike it ended once the shows were over.
I didn't think i would at first, but I really miss that show, I grew to like it alot!....can due with a different beth ( ) but MICK is uummm-uummm good!

You know when I first saw the show I didn't like it but now it sorta grew on me. Believe or not I liked Beth and the best friend but I didn't care for Mick as much.

Actually, some of the posts dated March are really April because they refer to Moonlight going to have new episodes airing in 2 weeks at the end of April. And Cindy posted a few up and that has the correct date. Very odd!

He does look very young in that picture even though he is what..26? I think it said in his bio that he was born in 1982. The way he is dressed makes him look like he's still in high school in that photo.

I have to say, I was little disappointed in NEW AMSTERDAM...they billed it as paranormal, but except for the fact that he couldn't die...I didn't see it!!
