Newsletter Crossword

This is my first post. I just joined and hope this is correct.
Has anybody finished the crossword in the newsletter? I got all but one answer. The one that is stumping me is:
5 Across: What usually happens to rogues once the council catches them ? (8 letters).
My best friend is reading the books now, so I can't refresh my memory

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Talking of the newsletter, if anyone didn't receive the newsletter via email can you let Lynsay, Terri or myself know & we'll resend it. Thanks.

As for the crossword, sorry Cindy - we're not giving any more clues.

Dave

Re: Newsletter Crossword

#5 for me too, Cindy. I know what happens to them, but I can't figure out the answer they are looking for to fit the spaces. I got all the others without looking in the books. Of course, I've only read the Argeneaus five times already while waiting for the next one Time to go do some research...

wren

P.S. Mr. Spice, Lynsay, & Terri...the newsletter is great and crosswords are fun!

Re: Newsletter Crossword

ooh, I forgot!

Welcome to the forums, Cindy!
I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do!

Re: Newsletter Crossword

OK, We have relented. Here another couple of clues. The second letter is 'X' and the same thing happened to two of King Henry VII's wives.

We'll have a little bit more time to spend on doing the November newsletter so, hopefully, we'll have a slightly less confusing crossword.

Dave

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Thank you for all welcomes. Don't get me wrong. I loved doing the crossword. That is the only one that has me stumped. Also I do not have my books to refresh my memory. As many times as I have read them I should be able to remember. It really gets you thinking. Looking forward to the next newsletter. And the next 3 books.

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Got it!!!
Thanks

Re: Newsletter Crossword

I did too! Thanks!!

wren

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Aaaaargh!!!!

Well done for getting the answer when even part of the second clue is incorrect. It should have read Henry VIII and not VII.

I just hope I do a better job of preaf rooding Lynsay's manuscripts - Yes, this one is deliberate.

Dave

Re: Newsletter Crossword extra clues and rambling...

Hi Dave,

I thought you were being very generous giving the first part of the eXtra clues. After all, since you're Lynsay's cute British guy, I'm sure you are allowed to leave off a Roman Numeral of one of your long-time-ago kings if you feel like it. It keeps us on our toes to see if we can keep up with those deliberate errors. Ooh, come to think of it, he is a long-time-ago king of some of our ancestors. My father's family has a geneology of two Scottish brothers that came to Virginia in the early 1700's, and the lady who did all the research did it through the early 1970's. I'm listed in the book at age six, and my sisters were two. It's an interesting story of how my dad discovered this geneology through a business contact that had the same last name as us when I was about age 20. I feel a fascinating history lesson coming on. Between both my parents, we have a little English, Irish, a lot of Scottish, and some Native American (Cherokee) in our geneology. So, since the USA wasn't even a colony yet, I guess we have to claim old Henry VII, umm I mean VIII also. We don't get to knock them off until George III.

The original word I had put in the spaces was how that king had disposed of those two wives, and what stumped me was where Dracula lived. I wasn't sure if I had the right word for #5 and that Dracula's homeland should be spelled how a bad movie vampire accent would sound. "Welcome to my castle in Dransyl____!" How's that for illogical thinking?
Please don't think of it as a reflection of my teaching skills. It finally occured to the "genius" in me that if you had wanted a "silly answer" you would have made it a "silly clue."

My husband teaches math to our sons in our homeschool, because as of last year I needed his help and that's not my favorite subject anyway. Last month included a review of Roman Numerals, and my younger son who is very good at math got a little tired of solving problems with Roman Numerals. He would have suggested you leave off all of old Henry's numerical identification! "Off with your Roman Numerals, Your Majesty!" When we have our history lesson, I will have to tell my son that it just looks more majestic to have VIII instead of 8 behind your kingly name. Then I will make him research the real reason for using the Roman Numerals...Muhahahahahahahahahaha!!! You get to do that when you are the teacher!

You just keep right on preaf rooding...it helps us get the books faster...as long as you & Lynsay take a break for yourselves once in awhile. Happy Belated Anniversary! Just read the blogs recently.
Here is your present... Have a lot of fun! It's very soft and smushy, just for the two of you, so be sure and play nice.

Well, I have to find and catch up on Lynsay's historicals and holiday stories in case there are clues in the next crossword. I've read all her Argeneaus and Scottish Vampire Howell/Sands books, but I don't know as much about the other books. I feel a trip to the bookstore coming on this week. Not sure E.G. (that's my dear honey) is going to let me get by with the excuse that I need all these books to do the newsletter crossword, since Christmas is so close and Santa Claus & his two elves (who are both taller than their mother now) always put a couple of books in my stocking if I've been very good. Unfortunately, the Santa that lives in this house thinks I spend a little too much time at the local bookstore because all the employees know me by my first name and already know to put two of each Argeneau book aside when it arrives and call me so I can pick them up for my sisters and me. I don't see how that can be a bad thing...Oh, well it's not too far away.

Good-night The Always Angelic Wren with the sometimes crooked halo.

P.S. I really like "smilies." Renee And I really like to ramble on when my halo is on crooked.

Re: Newsletter Crossword

I'm down to 3 blank anwsers...was able to do all but those three in one sitting, so I'm quite proud of myself. So Dave/Terrie/Lynsay, just how long DO we have to wait to get anwsers anyway????

LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Oh I seemed to have missed out on the crossword, it sounds like it was great fun tho!

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Hmmm! Not sure how long to wait before giving out the answers. Probably in the next newsletter - which will be at the end of the month - or, if there's enough demand for them sooner we could put them on the forum.

Let me know what the preferrred method is and then we'll go with the most popular suggestion.

Dave

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Hi Vicky,

If you want to do the crossword, which was a lot of fun, send a message to Terri, Dave, or Lynsay so they can send you a newsletter.

If you are not signed up for Lynsay's newsletters, there is a place on her website to sign up to get them in the future. This was really the first one, and they are looking at new ways and fun things to send out possibly monthly.

I think the place to contact Lynsay and to sign up for newsletters is on the home page of her website.
Hope this helps.

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Dave,

I think I would like to get the answers in the following newsletter. That way we have a month or so to work on any crosswords or other fun stuff included in the current newsletter. Also, that way I know I wouldn't miss it if I didn't happen to see it when it gets posted.

Also, sorry about the long, rambling post previously on this thread. I obviously was chatty in the wee hours a couple of nights ago, and noone was on the forum. I definitely needed a new book! But I did have fun with all the smilies.

Renee

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Hi Resa,

After I finally got number 5 and had a completed puzzle, I did look in Lynsay's books just to refresh my memory on a couple of answers and found they were misspelled. On some answers, it's not a big deal, but if it's a place or person, it changes the whole answer, making it incorrect. Well, I've corrected them, now.

Great job on getting down to three blanks in one sitting!

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Vicky - We're just about to email you the newsletter again. Can you let me know if you successfully receive it? Thanks.

Dave

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Thank you very much I have received it thats excellent! Thanks. x

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Ah thank you so much I have received it, I really appreciate you sending that to me! Thank you xx

Re: Newsletter Crossword

I looked at all the ones I'm missing and they all have to do with Bite Me If You Can. Maybe I need to reread it. I must not have been paying close attention.

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Resa darlin' I knew you were smart when we met you in Dallas. You had that bright eyed look of intelligence. Gained from your mother no doubt. She had it too. Well done on the crossword!

Well done to everyone in fact. Be sure to let us know where and when you want the answers. We will debate the decision in this house until doomsday if given the chance.

The options are this forum, the next newsletter, or both I guess. LOl. No reason we couldn't. The time is the issue.

By the way, that was our first crossword and I think it was a little harder than it could be because of it. Just in some words because it took so few of the words we fed the program so some of the words only had one or two letters filled in by other answers. Next time we'll try for more smaller words to fill it out. That should make it more fun too. The next one will probably be a Christmas and Holidays are Hell theme. We've been jotting down words for it every chance we get.

Anyhoooooo, I should go read the rest of the posts. I've been so busy I've neglected you horribly and really appreaciate my sweetie Mr. Spice stepping in to help. Thank you, love.

Lynsay

Re: Newsletter Crossword

Denise, the two I had messed up on came from Bite Me If You Can. I was on the right track, just didn't have them spelled correctly, which was important for the answer. Close doesn't count in crosswords, does it?

Renee

Re: Newsletter Crossword

I finally sat down to the crossword, I had been ignoring any clues in this post and I managed to do all but three! It was names I was struggling on, very bad of me isnt it! But I did try and was partly chuffed! xx
