AGE

what age do you guys think people should start reading romance i think that once they come across it at any age is when they should start to read romance if they are interested what do you guys think well change that i think they be at least a teenager don't you

Re: AGE

I started really early reading romance probably about 8 0r 9 as it was the only books in the house I could find at the time and I was desparate to read, but yeah I think probably early teens is a good age, i mean when I read them when I was younger I dont think I understood them properly

Re: AGE

because oh good i've been worried because here's a little secret i'm a teenager i thought like that it was an unspoken rule saying you can't even touch romance until you are twenty

Re: AGE

I'd prefer readers to be teens because of the sex, but I started reading them at 12.

Re: AGE

My mother started allowing me to read romance novels that didn't have much, if any, sex in them when I was maybe 10 or so. And, no offence Lynsay, I have a tendency to skip thoes parts of the book now...and I'm 24. No I do not think that one directly effected the other, I just hate reading about people who have a better sex life than I do! LOL

Re: AGE

I must be a late bloomer because I was in my late 20's when I started reading romance books...of course I had three kids under the age of five by the time I was 24, so I was a bit to busy to be able to sit down and read a book.
I like the sex scenes. Especially Lynsays. I mean I howled when I was reading Always and they were consummating the marriage. I mean you gotta have humor ..Sex does not have to be a serious act...it can be fun with laughter in between the moans..LOL.

Re: AGE

I think I was 10 or 11 whem I started to read. My parents used to drive me nuts, trying to force me to read(little house on the parie). It made me not want to read at all. Then I was on an away trip with my sports team and was bord and looked around a corner store for something to read and found a book.." A Love Beyond Time". I was hooked ever sence.

As for the sex in books, there was hardly any in it at the time. And no I won't say how long ago that was...lol. If there was any I will admit, I never understood it then, but I was more about the story and the happy ending.

That is why I love Lynsay's books, it is not all about the sex, it is a great story and great characters.
I guess now that I am older if I find a book that has alot of sex in it I don't enjoy it. Maybe because I think that they had such a small story that they had to fill the rest of the pages with sex...lol. No hard feelings out there...lol.

Re: AGE

I started to read romance novels when I was about 15. I think that might have been a bit early for some of the racier scenes. But I really enjoy romance novels, so I can't say I regret reading them that young.

Re: AGE

Well I have to admit. I am 15. I just stared reading romance books last year. Well the once that have sex scenes in them anyway. dont think its a big deal at reading stuff like that at 14 or 15. Its not like we dont know what it is anyway

Re: AGE

I started reading Barbara Cartlands when I was 10. I had gone through all the books at the library in the childrens section. Next I started reading harlquins. They were about as innocent as Barbara Cartlands. I am 41 now so this was back in the mid seventies. I started reading historical romances when I was 12 or 13. The first one was Shanna. Now I prefer paranormal romances but still read historicals by certain authors. Lynsay's historicals and Joanna Lindsey's mainly but also anything by Bertrice Small. I have been reading about Skye O'Malley since I was a teenager and enjoy rereading the books about her every few years.
I also enjoy mysteries of all kinds and some fantasy books. I am waiting on some non-fiction books from the library about King Henry the eighth as well as Mary queen of scots. I love reading about history.

Re: AGE

I started reading romance when I was 12 or 13. My older sister started reading romance so I followed suit and began reading too. She and I started with teenage romance so it wasn't so "sexual".

Re: AGE

I started reading them when I was 12 with Danielle Steel & Sidney Sheldon books my sister used to pass down to me. Then my mom found out I was reading "pornography" and made me stop so I had sneak them into the house with my bookcovers covering the actual novels.

Re: AGE

Yeah, my sister saw one of the sex scenes called it "pornography" and told my mom on me isn;t that so embaressing it was actually one of Lynsay's books Tall Dark and Hungry u know the scene in the back when B and T reunite passionalty. So now i'v been having to cover all the romance books that have have naked people on them. so everytime that my mom asks me if im reading "pornography" i say no because come on its not like you are watching porno like u said earlier its not like we don't know what sex is we LEARN SEXX!!!! at school we are not sheltered debuantes in old England sorry Lynsay who would faint at the sight of the word thrusting and moaning right

Is it just me or have you guys when you were like five or something have had the bad fortuane to wake uo in the middle of the night to go use the bathroom and had to walk past your parents room to go use the bathroom but mistakinly your parents forgot to close their bedroom door and you saw them having SEX i still have nightmares about my parents having sex still at the beginning i didn't know what that ws so i told my grandfather"they were kissng" later on i learned what the real word was i was so embaressed because i didn't know what it was at that time. lol

Re: AGE

I started reading romances when I was in high school, probably freshman or sophmore year. The ones that I always liked the most were the Loveswept series. They always had a lot of comedy involved in the romance and I really like that which is why I'm a big fan of Lynsay Sands. My parents decided to move the summer before I started my junior year and I really freaked out about what to do with my collection of romance books because I didn't think my parents would understand. Looking back now I don't think they would have cared but it was really embarassing to think of my parents seeing the steamy covers of some of my books. I actually threw out some of them rather than risk my parents finding them during the move. Pretty silly, huh?

Re: AGE

I started reading the big romance books when I was 13.
The first book was "Love's Tender Fury." I recently found it in the library and reread it, and it is a heartbreaker. It was good, but not what I remembered after so many years.

I only have sons, but my sister has a daughter who is 11, and she recently read Love Bites. At first I was surprised, but Sherri talked to her about the sex/love scenes and told her she could just skip over them if she wanted. Of course, my sister also reads Lynsay's books and knows what she writes. She will be very careful of which authors she allows her to read at this age. Our mom was the same way. She had already read the romances that she allowed us to read until we were older. My neice is more mature than some of her peers, but she won't read darker paranormal romances or any books that have a lot of sex or a lot of bad language in them. I read one trilogy that had a wonderful plot, but the language was so bad I wanted to go through with a black marker and "delete" those words. I don't purchase the books of authors who write graphic sex scenes or erotica, or who use bad language excessively. I would rather have a good plot that I can enjoy and love scenes that fit the storyline.

Like any genre, parents should know what their children and teens are reading. Many mysteries, sci/fi, & fantasy books are not appropriate for all ages. Generally, I think romances are best for teens or mature tweens who have parental supervision.

Wordy as usual, Wren
