Why no epilogues?

I've read many of Lynsay's books and I'm curious as to why no epilogues. Before any one corrects me, yes I know there are a few. Such as in Etienne's story but the epilogue was about Bastien(sorry if misspelled.) Also, in Bliss there's an epilogue, but that covers just a little after the story ends, not a "future" look. But the majority doesn't have epilogues. I'm an epilogue kinda gal! Any way I'm not complaining. I love the books. I'd just like to know what happened to some of my favorite characters. Like in "Lady Pirate," did they have a boy or a girl? Did the pirates happily adjust to life on land or were there many misadventures?
Merry Christmas everyone,
Jen

Re: Why no epilogues?

Why no epilogue....Well Jen, it's not that I don't like Epilogues. Just, sometimes they come and sometimes they don't.

With Lady Pirate, I left that deliberately vague. At the time I was hoping to write about Valoree's children, but my editor said not to go there, pirates don't sell. Grimace. I loved that group of guys and may write it anyway someday and sell copies of it myself. They were such fun. Shrug.

The other reason is that my characters don't listen to me and they play tricks on me at times. For instance, Etienne's story. When I left off Etienne's story, like Marguerite, I hoped and fully expected that the Psychologist mentioned in the epilogue would feature strongly in Bastien's story. I thought she'd be his life mate, but it didn't work out that way. He could read her, had little trouble dealing with her and went on to meet Terri... So, rather than take a guess at what they're going to do in the future, I now wait and see. The stories work out better that way than if I try to force them to do what I want. So, you aren't likely to see an epilogue in the Argeneaus.

I'll see what I can do about epilogues for the historicals though.

Re: Why no epilogues?

I think allot of us like epilogues because we are really into "Happy Ever Afters"...and the epilogues show us that:)

Re: Why no epilogues?

Jacquie, I agree completely. You spend so much time getting to know these characters and then you come to the end of the book, and "poof" they're gone. With an epilogue you get the idea that life goes on and their "love" wasn't fleeting! Yes, I'm one of those crazy people who the characters in a book become real people in my mind!
-Oh and Lynsay my sister says you're so cool she just wants to shrink you down and carry you around in her pocket. Whatever that means!

Re: Why no epilogues?

So you can't really epilouge in a series because if it goes a different way than you expected, you've kind of put yourself in a corner that you have to explain your way out of first before proceeding with the new storyline. That makes good sense.

Bummer about Lady Pirate though I haven't read that one yet, but I imagine it would suck to have to put a stopper on a story that's waiting to come out of you just because "Pirates don't sell"

Re: Why no epilogues?

I beg to differ. I think piret storys sell...maybe not like gang-busters, but they sell.

So with no eplogs....does that mean that we may see many more of the A's then just the stories you have planned?

Speaking of piret books, I loved Katie MacAlister's "Blow Me Down". :)

Re: Why no epilogues?

I hope so Theresa, if someone is willing to pub them, you'll see them.

Speaking of which, I got a copy of the possible cover for A Bite to Remember this week. When they've finished fiddling with it, I'll be sure to have it posted.
