who is your favorite argeneau family member?
My favorite is the mother Marguerite. She did some amazely funny and sometimes just little scary things to help her children get their mates.
Well Circe, then you'll be happy to know I'm playing with him right now. I was supposed to do Marguerite's story next, but while she was packing for her grand adventure, Lucian had some trouble and showed up at her door. The next thing I knew he'd taken over the story with his own romance. Shrug. Who am I to argue? I'm just the writer, so I let him have his way. Sigh....
Yes Electra. The mean old fart who threatened to have Rachel terminated if she didn't do as she was told. He shows up in Lissianna's story too and I just got to thinking the man needs a little softening and maybe a kick or two in the butt.
Hmmmm, do you know I got heck because Lucern and Lucian are too close and will confuse readers? And then I have a Terri, which they might think is short for Theresa....
Besides, you know darned right well if I say yes, I'll get a ton of letters from people wanting to have their name used. LOL.
Lynsay, you don't have to name her after me. Just make her the biggest smart @ss possiable with out making her anoying and it'll be perfect.
A running joke in the family (that unfortunally is starting to get old) is when it's time for moms insulain shot, she'll say "Come shoot me." and Dad or I will reply, "Bang!".
See post about Questions for Lynsay and the board. I didn't want to call you smart @ss in public, thought it would be rude, so I called you smarty pants instead
Well at first I would have to say, Lucern..... But now I am leaning toward Marguerite. I have a feeling that she is going to have a story line where she is a private eye????? HUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMM Lynsay????
What? Like you think I know what goes on with this family? They just wander in and tell me what to write and I write it. I haven't a clue what they're going to get up to and they constantly take me by surprise.
Heck, MY plan was to write Marguerite's story about three books ago. They laughed at me and said, no no no, you'll do Vincent's...then it was Lucian's, then Victor's. Right now I've STARTED Marguerite's story, but that's no guarantee it won't be someone elses by deadline time. Honestly! This family drives me wild.
Well. Thomas struck my fancy first and his personality is the kind that is very attractive to me but I think I'm leaning more toward Etienne now since I'm a computer geek too.
Well since I started reading these forums before I finished the series I had to wait to decide but its still the same one from when I read Love Bites. Lucien just seem to hit a soft part of me and I was glad you were able to find him the perfect person for him to re-awaken the person in him that had gone cold. Maybe I realte because I feel so old and cold sometimes because of what I see of this world but perhaps its just because in my mind he is so freakin' hot lol
my favorite so far is lucian. i like the strong silent type however, i really interested in christian notte. Is marguerite's story going to include him? i really hope so! is tiny going to be involved?
Well, right now, I'm reading Single White Vampire, so I'm so in love with Lucern!!! But one of my absolute fave characters has to be Thomas!!! I so love him!!!
There is definitely more to Thomas than "dude". I heard from my editor today that she's editing Thomas and "loves it" so I can relax a little. I worry with every book and probably the day I don't is the day I should hang up my...er...pen?
I just love Lucian and his ego it was so funny in the last chapter of Bite Me If You Can that Leigh said that on page 353 that he liked to bring up that he got her pregnent on there first time together and plus he hadn't had anybody since the i think that the Romans left Britain
Marguerite. I am really looking forward to her story. I hope the family have some fun tricks up their sleeves in store for her...now it's their turn to meddle! I just want to see cupid hit her hard. I can't wait to read that book when it comes out!
I just finished reading them all about two weeks ago. I have to say that Thomas and Vincent have stuck with me, but I love them all. And I'm looking forward to reading about all the European characters, too.
I always have loved Etienne so much, his was also the first of Lynsay's I read so it gave him bonus points ^_^, plus I aspire to be a coroner, she just nailed my perfect book ten point oh.
Then I read Lucian's and I love him so much now as well, he's a big old goof.
I would have to say hands down that Lucien is my favorite. Having said that, I am eagerly anticipating Thomas's story. He has a genuine heart and intellect that he seems to hide for most of the time.I am curius as to what else he is hiding.
Lucian, and Bastian, and Vincent, hell i love all the men!
Dear dear dear Lynsay, i absolutely love your books, and i wanted to tell you that my husband hates it and tries to hide my books! ha ha, i've bought every one, and have the next three on hold for me at the book store, yet i read SWV,LOVE BITES, and Tall Dark and Hungry in a day and a half.
Oh. Oh jeez. If I had to pick... Thomas. But they are all great. Thomas has been dangled just out of reach for so long I'm absolutely STARVED to read his story.
That is what makes Bastien and his story so funny to me. Like I said, Bastien began to squirm, when his entire life was uprooted!!! and Lucien did the same thing. They were both very strong men, who kept their lives in strick order, untill they found their woman. Lucien turned into a bumbling fool, and Bastien, was so worried about his lifemate, he suggested going to an outdoor market, remember!?
That is the power we women can have on our men, whether we know it or not.
But Bastien is only 400 yrs. old and wasn't really stripped of his dignity. I felt that Lucian was.
The rubber gloves and apron episode just wasn't funny to me. Nor was his entire family rummaging around in his thoughts and taking so much pleasure in being able to do it.
I guess I just feel that Lucian wasn't "softened" (as Lynsay put it) so much as taken down several pegs and I didn't think it was necessary.
Look at Lucern, 600 yrs old and suffering such ennui. How much worse it must be for Lucien who is something like a couple of 1000 years old! And he received very little sympathy when he deserved a lot of understanding. The rest of his family should be thankful that he and Victor do the "dirty work" so that they don't have to.
The signs were all there that Lucien wasn't the total sh*t that they thought he was, it didn't have to be proven so drastically.
I guess I just wish that Lucien could have found his lifemate without having his character so substantially changed. None of the others truly did. Bastien is still a workaholic, Etienne is still a gamer at heart, and Lucern is still a grumpy, surly so-and-so!
Lucien is my favourite character but his book is my least favourite. Which isn't to say it's not on my re-read list as are all of Lynsay's Argeneau books.
I probably haven't explained myself very well because I'm not even sure myself what I mean. It's definitely more of a gut reaction I have than an intellectual one.
Actually, Lucien's story is one of my favorites. He really wasn't "brought down a peg," although it may come across it in some of the funny scenes. I found those scenes made him more realistic as a person. He had not had to do any of the types of duties that taking care of a new turn and a big dog require on his own in so many years. In some ways, it was almost like he had forgotten how to really live, and just kept going because of the loved ones who needed him.
Having to struggle with the simple tasks of everyday living, eating, shopping, taking care of someone, taking care of a pet, dealing with the "messies" of life, & the insecurity of once again being with a special woman was just the "wake-up call" needed to bring Lucien back to life. And he did it while still doing his job as leader on the council, keeping track of Morgan through his enforcers and Bastien, and still taking care of the fight when it was time.
Even though his family has always loved him, seeing him find his lifemate and find some joy in life made them more understanding of him, instead of fear him. It is one thing to have awe and respect, but quite another to be feared where others won't reach out to you. Being at the top and having to do the job he does has been lonely and sometimes unpopular. Plus, he remembers Atlantis and the family he lost, and he watched his twin brother drink himself to his death, watching over Jean Claude's family and allowing leeway for him when he probably should have been stepping in due to some of his actions. I think he has lived those several thousand years with some guilt and a huge sense of loss of Atlantis, his first wife & daughters, and his twin brother, and that is one reason he has been at the front of the line to protect his people and protect the mortals from those who go rogue.
Leigh softens the story of Lucien having to handle things that he usually turns over to those who work for him or to members of his family. She sees him as tired and lovable, not grumpy or stern. He does not become a lesser man or protector of his people. Remember, he admits that if Rachel had not come around and it had become necessary, he would have ordered her terminated, even though he fears it will change Leigh's feelings for him. Rachel learns that he does have a soft side, but that he has had the burden of protecting his people for so long, and grows in her understanding of him, letting go of the anger and awkwardness between them. She also tries to be more helpful to him than the others, both in finding ways to protect him and Leigh and helping him in his pursuit of his lifemate. In the past, only Lissianna and Marguerite have really known what was beneath the gruff surface or been willing to stand up to him. That created a bit of arrogance in him, and he is used to having his orders obeyed without question. But even Victor would not have survived if Lucien had not insisted that he help as an enforcer after his first lifemate died.
I believe that Lucien will continue to be as strong and as willing to make the tough decisions needed in the future. While he has found his lifemate, and will once again be a father, that's only more reason than ever to continue in his role of leadership on the council. He will hunt the rogues and criminals as needed, or delegate to those enforcers he has trained to work for him. After a few thousand years, he does deserve a little happiness, and Leigh is strong enough and independent enough to allow him to be who he truly is, without trying to change him.
I guess I just see Lucien as a more developed character now. As has been pointed out, the signs were always there, but now we know him so much better. Also, a man is not a buffoon just because he puts on an apron and tries to figure out how to get medicine down a huge dog's throat. For me, it just makes him more of a man!
Yep I agree Wren! I liked that his family finally got to see Lucian have feelings. And the fact of them having the upper hand on him for a while was amusing to me.
I do hope in the future that he will open up about his life in Atlantis.
Me too, Linda. I think a lot of us would like a little more of the story on Atlantis. It might be hard to do, because there would have to be some sadness in it, and there is so much humor & joy in Lynsay's books. But, it would also be nice to see the lives of the very oldest immortals that escaped when Atlantis fell. Maybe Lynsay will do that sometime in the future, if we keep a good long run of books going!
Wren, I would be happy with just a peek into his family life. As well as a bit of back story. I love the fact that our imaginations have already gone there. Not that we obsess much lOl
Ok I'm really a dork. I keep wondering why this was beeing set up as new........ second page.. geesh...
now I have to get caught up. I still say bring on the brit's!!! Wren making me feel better she didnt notice either. ....
Linda, are you talking about casting actors for our Argeneaus or fave family member? Cause on the actors thread, I have all kinds of mixed up posts! Totally couldn't figure out what was going on, but after looking at it awhile Dave, Lynsay, & Terri figured it out. I even had them confused with all my mess-ups.
I am a technological turtle moving sloooowly into the rest of the virtual wide world. LOL
But, I'm not giving up. My niece, who is a computer whiz, is going to try & tutor me on getting my blog set up. She & my sister are living with us for awhile, and they both know bunches about computers.
My other sis claims she still doesn't know how to turn one on, although we did set her up an email address. One tiny turtle step at a time...
Wren ,I not even sure I want to know, but I am too curious not to ask......
is anyone else intrested in how Margarite ended up with her ex. everyone knows he was wrong for her and know she was happy and it wasn't a good expierence for her. The books have touched on it but I can't help but wander....or do you think it will be in her book??
