What are you guys hearing?

I'm just curious. What are you guys hearing on the tsunami and its fall out over there in Ameriuca and Canada? It's getting major coverage over here and today all of Europe had three minutes of silence.

It's a terrible thing, and the news reports are both horrifying and sad. I can't imagine having to go through what the survivors are suffering over there.

My heart goes out to them.

Yeah, we're getting a lot of coverage over here in Canada too. We had a national day of mourning yesterday.
Toronto has a large Sri Lankan community, too, and apparently one man lost 24 of his relatives. Can you imagine?! It's hard to grasp. And the pictures on-line are heartbreaking....

Re: What are you guys hearing?

/. . oh that's so horrible.... kinda is hard to grasp *tries so very hard to grasp* gah i think im gonna cry *curls in a little ball and rubs away tears*

Re: What are you guys hearing?

Yes, it's an awful situation. There are lots of reports of whole families lost, but then they were showing towns where 300 out of 4,000 people survived.

Worse yet, at the middle of this last week, they had special news reports stating that the heaviest painkillers they had were the equivalent of aspirin and they had no anasthesia so were literally having to tie patients down and operate on them without any to save their lives. On top of that, because of the lack of antibiotics and the living conditions, lots of injuries were going septic, meaning amputations... without anasthetic. I'd say it sounded medieval, but even then they had at least alcohol to knock the person out with before cutting off a limb or anything else. I'm hoping this has changed by now and that the aid is finally getting through and so on, but I really feel awful for these people. To survive, find you've lost all or most of your family, then to go through this on top just seems...

Well, my heart goes out to them.

I can not imagine surviving through something like this. My heart and prayers go out to them all.

Re: What are you guys hearing?

Wow on the before and after pictures Kristin. It really shows the difference, and it's devastating, isn't it? Sometimes it just seems it would be easier to scoop the survivors up and take them where they could get the help they need and leave mother nature to repair herself, but I guess that would just cause different problems.
