2007 Charcon Painting Competition sponsored by CustomHobby.com

Welcome to the 2007 Charcon/Custom Hobby Painting Competition! Yes ladies & gentlemen we are back. After a successful first year, we are opening things up a little bit for this one. This competition is looking to showcase the best examples of creativity & skill from our Hobby. The judges will be looking for models that are well painted and well presented.

Each entrant must complete all of the work (i.e., modeling, converting, painting, basing, and the like) on any model he or she enters into the competition. Entrants may have as many submissions as they would like to enter. The entries do not have to be kept secret and can be items that have been posted on the internet before. The only restriction is that items that have placed in previous competitions are not eligible for consideration in this event.

This year we will actually have two competitions that will run simultaneously. One will be an online competition where the entrants must email me clear pictures of their entries on or before October 17th, 2007. These entries will be printed out and displayed at Charcon for the attendees of the convention to vote on, and also displayed on the Custom Hobby Forum where the votes from the online public will also be added into the tally. The second portion of the competition will be the live judging that will take place at the convention for entries that are submitted in person. The judging will be done by Custom Hobby, the Charcon Executive Committee, & select special guests. With this we will also hold a poll for live entries that will be at the Custom Hobby Forum for one day; this tally will count as one vote toward the selection of the live challenge winners.

As mentioned above all online entries must be received no later then October 17th, 2007 . Pictures must be sent to paintingcontest@customhobby.com. All entries for the live challenge must be submitted at the convention no later than 1pm Saturday October 20th, 2007.

The contest is open to all that would like to participate. There will be two categories: Live & Online. There will be three winners for the each portion of the competition; Gold, Silver, & Bronze.

Each winner will receive a Charcon Exclusive trophy miniature sculpted by none other than the renowned Kevin James White of Hasslefree Miniatures. The miniature will be a limited edition version of Custom Hobby’s mascot Kyrie. The miniature will only be available as the prize for placing in the competition each year. Each figure is a metallic powder coated resin cast of the figure that will correspond to the place in the competition. The www.CustomHobby.com special edition miniature/trophy will be sent to the winners after the convention once they have been notified. Aside from that each winner will also receive a gift certificate from Custom Hobby good toward any of the services we provide (custom painting & terrain, and the soon to be released miniature, resin terrain lines & clothing). The certificates will be worth $200, $100, and $50 to correspond with the Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners. Also every winner will receive a package of items from a number of Charcon’s other sponsors.

The Judges and organizers of Charcon reserve the right to disqualify entries if we find that the rules have been violated or if models entered are potentially offensive or in bad taste (don’t worry we have a sense of humor).

Entry into the competition gives Custom Hobby the right to photograph and publish details of the models as we see fit. Finally, remember that the purpose of this painting competition is to showcase the efforts of all those who paint miniatures in our hobby and to have fun.
