My response to Tourism Nanaimo's response

Thank you Becky for your prompt response to my email request for promotional information on Nanaimo.

I will stop by the infocentre soon to pick up, hopefully 100 copies of the brochures and a few copies of the 2004 Tourism Guide. I will be flying into Ontario in July and obviously will be limited as to how much I can bring with me.

This is most unfortunate as I was really eager to promote Nanaimo as a tourism destination point at this reunion and thought a guide for all attending would of been a nice gesture.

Would you have any other suggestions as to who I should contact with respect to promotional materials I could bring with me or have sent to Ontario? Perhaps the Bathtub Society? Maybe they would be receptive to donating a few of their golden bath tub stoppers or other bathtub souveniers to give out as prizes for the contests that we will be having at the reunion. Do you know who would be the best person to contact?

Many of the people attending the reunion in July have never been to Canada before and I really want to introduce the splendors of our west coast to them.

Perhaps some of the other Tourism organizations on Vancouver Island may wish to contribute something symbolic of their area. Would you have email addresses and contact names of anyone in particular that you would recommend that I contact.

All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In case it is not obvious, I am so very excited about this reunion and the opportunity it presents to introduce Nanaimo to the world. Once again thank you for all the assistance you have already provided and I look forward to any other suggestions you may have.

The next six months will go by quickly and a lot of planning and advance preparation is needed to ensure the success of the reunion.

A lot of discussion will be held in July as to where the next reunion will take place, who knows, it might just be Nanaimo.

Continued discussions with Tourism Nanaimo

Here is another email that I received from Beck of Tourism Nanaimo.

Regarding promotional materials, it would be best to contact the Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society, Tourism Vancouver Island, and the City of Nanaimo. I know that the City of Nanaimo will be able to give you pins. But there is no guarantee that any of these groups will be able to send the information to Ontario themselves.

For contacting the Bathtub Society you can contact the Commodore Bill McGuire at: bmcguire@island.net

I would also recommend contacting the Downtown Nanaimo Partnership c/o Barbara Winter at: Barbara@nanaimodowntown.com

At Tourism Vancouver Island you can contact Bobbi-Jean Goldy at: bobbijean@island.bc.ca

As for the City of Nanaimo pins you will need to contact the Mayor’s secretary. I can’t seem to find an email for the secretary but the phone number is: 755-4400

I hope this helps you get on your way!

I am the founder of a wonderful international community known as the World Wide Web Circle of Friends.

In March 2001 my unique online community, The World Wide Web Circle of Friends, began; initially as an on-line newsletter which went out to 5 subscribers. The present membership approximates 300 with members world wide.

In July, 2004 a gathering of our members from around the world will be taking place in Ontario, Canada. We anticipate between 50 and 100 people to be in attendance. Please take a moment to review this website: http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/wwwcof/reunion.html

Many of us are travelling from great distances to the beautiful province of Ontario Canada and we will be planning ahead to take some group day trips while we are there. Any information or assistance you could provide on this would be great!

Our hosts, Marie, Garnet and Patsi Duquette from Tilbury will be showcasing Ontario to our membership from around the world -- for most it will be their first trip to Canada.

Would it be possible for you to provide any promotional material on Ontario or souvenier items for distribution to those attending? Could you recommend any businesses that would be willing to donate a product or service?

Look forward to hearing further from you on this at which time I will provide an address in Ontario to send the information.

Thank you, in advance.
