Okay lets start with the first line of art.
Kathy says---I like the first line ("B. Holden" - "Con Man", ironically, I know a lot of salesmen and politicians and preachers who look just like that pic, LOL!)

I say---Agreed, this line is really good as a primer for the work of Angus. "B.Holden", I mentioned in the forum on the site, reminds me alot of how a "submissive" presents herself to her "Dom/me". Now "Bigfoot" is an ego painting I think....if not his ego, then the ego of maybe someone who he has run across in life...yet it might just be a painting about how ones ego, personality can consume you if you are not careful....Now, "Conman" although I
don't have alot of problem with it....it sure does remind me of Bob Hope....and for that reason, I was slightly put off by it...but then I got to thinking how many people I have trusted that have lead me astray....It got me thinking, what if the person I trust and admire is really someone I would normally not give the time of day too....wowza....it hit me hard.

Kathy says---The second line of works I'd classify as merely ok, nothing fabu or too odd or offensive. (Not that I necessarily mind being offended if the artist is making a valid point!) It does bother me that "Enemy" looks more female than male.

I say---This is probably my least favorite group on the page....sheesh....I'm afraid it is the kind of art that my mother would normally say, "A three year old can do better." yet, there are things there that do draw me in...."Enemy" actually looks quite androgonous (sp) to me....it could be male or female...."I" also confuses me to a degree, it looks almost robotic....the one white eye is very disturbing.

Kathy says---The whole one night stand thing is profoundly disturbing to me. How it resonates with me (and I may be the looney toon here, lol!) is that he is really afraid of women, imbuing them with more power and capacity for evil then they may actually possess in reality.

I say---Wow.....let me take another look at this group... Okay, actually ONE NIGHT STAND 1-4, to me, looks very serene...peaceful....especially 1 and 4. I love the look in the eyes on each one....Where you find them ugly I find them very beautiful...whether they are a statement of power or not, I'm not sure... but there is a silent strenth of peace behind the eyes....lol....two people, two interpetations.

Kathy says--"Full Blown - "Condaleeza" just bizarre! (Though Condalisa Right strikes me that way , for real!)

I say---Bingo on "Condoleeza". I am all for women in positions of power, but this woman scares the hell out of me, and this painting for me at least, just envelopes the feeling of being consumed by her.... especially if you pose a threat to her or her views....

Kathy says---I like the first 4 "Dreamers", but the last 2 slip back into bizarre.

I say---"Dreamers" 1, 4, 5, and 6 seem to be studies of the same person...or at least the same person in mind...there are stiking similarities to them.....but I think 1 is my favorite....

Kathy says---I like the whole "Down the sink" line of pics. Obvious meaning, nice color and form.

I say---On that line I like "Down the Sink", "Island Fever" and "Inner Split"....Each one of them has some interesting "hidden" features which I always love to see in a good piece of art....when you can hid something within something, that is fabulous.

Kathy says---"Diva" line, like them all.

I say---Agreed, but I think that "Paige" is my favorite one of this group....followed closely by "Eve"....

Kathy says---His dark irony in the "Pride and Nails" line is perfectly clear and right on the mark.

I say---This series, which I think that "Excalibur" would be great with, says alot....there is definately irony in it and I doubt that this group will be looked on kindly by all....I think in this group, my favorite is..."Nails" and "Dogma".

Kathy says---His Le Pensier with an "I AM" appelation, Very Interesting! The rest of the pics in that line are colorful, but definitely tread on that line between brilliance and madness.

I say---"I AM" is one of the better one in the whole collection...although "You Can't Take It With You" and "Opening Night" are two of the better ones in this group if my opinion means anything...lol...of course I have been told I am on that thin like as well.

Kathy says---"Liberty Assailed" (I am a soapbox foaming at the mouth ultra radical liberal!) I just plain love this pic. I know he is always deeply concerned about freedom of speech (Cradle!) as are we all, especially now with the thought police in full force. The rest of that line in fascinating too.

I say-----I'm afraid that the more I looked and studied the detail in "Liberty Assailed" I began to cry...this has got to be the most powerful painting on this page...period. Also in this line..."Farewell" almost reminds me of a self portrait....go on, look at it again and look closely at the features.... More later... dev

Ya know, Devi, on closer look and reflection, maybe the eyes are serene and not too scary. I'm prob just projecting. Having communication probs with a hot new boyfriend this week, so I'm a little verklempt. I'll get over it, but I wont enjoy it in the meanwhile! LOL! Told ya, I'm the looney! But how i would dearly love to see a classic masters style portrait of a beautiful woman done through his eyes. I bet it would be breathtaking and astounding. Sorry for the long email, but i did want to honor your request. I appreciate your comments, I always enjoy hearing other peoples perceptions, I learn alot and am constantly amazed at their insight. Isnt it great that the world doesnt just come in black and white? Kathy

Ok so I'm really behind on this art discussion, which is too bad because it's been really interesting. I'm surprised he has the time to be so prolific. Anywhoo...whoever commented on how she would like to see Angus paint a realistic looking portrait of a woman...while that would be interesting to see, I just don't think that's his style. The closest any of his current paintings gets to that would most likely be "Amazon," which I think is done beautifully. With his style, I think it enables him to convey more emotion, the vibrant bold colors and brush strokes seem to act as another vehicle for emotion. And to whoever said this, I agree some of his paintings do look raw, in the sense that they look as if they don't have the same finesse as the others, or they're unfinished. (Like "I".) I am actually quite fond of the "One Night Stand" collection. Each different portrait seems to show a different personality, from innocence to coy to not so obviously coy (that's not exactly what I mean but I don't know how to explain it) to complacency. (Although I venture to say that 2 & 3 are the same person.) And I find it interesting that 4 is done so differently, which makes me think that she was more meaningful to him than his other one night stands. And it seems to me that the
"Dreamer" collection was done with the same woman in mind. (Throughout the "Dreamer" collection, not from the "One Night Stand" collection.) I really love
"Island Fever." "Then" and "Haunting" strike a cord with me as well. I really love the way he transforms, or metamorphises' (sp?) things into other things. (Which prolly explains why I like "Island Fever" so much.) For some reason I sort of think that "Latin
Lover" is a bit of a self-portrait, tho at this moment I can't really explain why. Wow I had no idea that this was going to be this long. Well, there's my 94 cents worth. Y'all stay cool now. ~kp

I'd venture to say that red and yellow are his favorite colors to paint with. Either that, or someone gave him a gross of tubes of red and yellow paint, hee. Laurel

Wow. I've just joined this group within the past couple of weeks. First, I'd like to say hi to all. Second, I have to say I'm impressed with this group already. I've joined a couple of these groups overtime for different actors, and all anyone wanted to talk about was how cute that particular actor was. Don't get me wrong. Angus is undeniably well, HOT, but I find it refreshing that people want to talk about something besides his body. It's nice to see that someone talented with acting can also be talented in art and writing (haven't finished reading it all, but like what I've read so far). I find his art fascinating. While I don't particularly care for all of his art, I do find that Malibu, Dreamer 3, Ignorance Gets a Suntan, Opening Night, Excalibur 1 & 2, and How Insensitive appeal to me, for some reason. Yet, even those that I don't particularly like, I've studied a bit...they seem to draw me in. Anyhow, there's my 2 cents...and thanks again for being a great group! I think I'm gonna like it here...
