After the Spectacle
Wow. Angus, did you have some sort of epiphany or something? I really like this one too. The crucifixion was indeed a show for those who opposed roman rule. When it was all over, only a few remained to see to the reality of life and death. The few who remained are the faceless entities that took Christ's body. Perhaps the body is, in some way, aware of the spectres since they are feeble images. the only really bold image in the grey-ness between life and death is the figure from the cross. It's and indication of a link that still exists between the living and deceased. |

What a piece of art. After the Spectacle reminds me of the nature of man. How we can’t help but to turn and watch the horror that unfolds around us. How when we pass a traffic accident, we can’t help but turn and see what has happened, has anyone been hurt or worse, killed. We as humans just have to look. Here we have the crucifixion. I’m sure that as now, there were many people that surrounded the cross, watching in both horror, and our own human curiosity. It’s over now, and the cross has been taken down. I would imagine it was indeed a spectacle to see. Now there are gawkers, those that surround those that are removing the corpse from the cross. One can only imagine what was being said at the time. Because the colors are cool and gray, I don’t see what the previous poster saw. I see the cold curiosity of those that surround the body. They can’t help but look, they can’t turn away, they might even have to touch and poke. This piece makes me wonder. After the spectacle, what now? Dev |
