Nails and Pride
How our pride can "nail" us to our own crosses. Also of Christ's own pride as he suffers in the fires of purification to cleanse his soul. The figure looks as though he is on fire, a glowing ember, perhaps of faith. This really speaks to me. Maybe not in the way Angus intends, but its a frightening and yet uplifting image. I don't think the words to describe what I feel on this image have been invented yet. NO BS, here. |

The crucifixion again. What a name for this piece. Nails and Pride. One wonders if it is the pride that has caused the crucifixion or there is pride for being able to be crucified. The flames in this painting could be a symbol of cleansing the soul, or, as I see, it could be a symbol of how pride can consume you as a raging fire. I love this piece but at the same time, can’t help but wonder over and over those questions at the beginning of what I wrote. Was it Pride that brought the nails or was it being proud of being nailed….either way, the end results were the same. Also could it be a symbol of today? How many people claim persecution (being nailed to the cross) because of their pride, (although they can not see this pride?)? And how many times do we put ourselves in a position of being “crucified” because of our pride in something. The flames I think are my favorite part of this painting. Ohh what I would give to get some of you, and Mr. Macfadyen together to really discuss what is going on in these painting. Should prove to be a very interesting conversation. Dev |
