Magnet therapy. Your opinions.

Hello. I'm really enjoying your postings on this site, especially Dave Hutchieson's. They're full of useful information.

What are your opinions about magnet therapy?

I have a seat-cushion that has strong magnets embedded inside. It has taken away some of my muscle cramps. I have very mild back pain- just a few muscle cramps. I'd say on a scale of 1 to 10 it's about 1-2.

It seems that folks on this forum have much more serious pain than me. And I pray that you'll get better. My question is:

1) Do you think that magnets would help people with severe pain? If not, at what point do they not help? (e.g. if someone's at a 5 pain level or above...)

2) What do you think about vitamins/supplements? Do they make you feel any better?

I really appreciate your feedback.

Thank you,
DE

Re: Magnet therapy. Your opinions.

David

There has been a lot of research into magnets over the last twenty years.

Modern magnets using rare earth materials can produce very intense magnetic fields. Much more so than those of past times.

Reasearch has been done to determine whether the fields can affect blood flow and cell chemistry.

As of now, nothing has been proven.

However, some people have said that their back pain has been reduced by magnets.

Unfortunately, there have not been enough cases to prove this conclusively.

Was it the magnets themselves, or was it the seat, chair, wrap-around etc that held the magnets that provided some relief ?

However, if something works for you, then go ahead.

Some people swear by copper bracelets for arthiritis.

Modern research suggests that trace amounts of copper going into the skin may have an effect.

Vitamins etc are very important in pain management.

However, after saying all of this, the root cause of back pain in the vast majority of cases [ assuming no masive trauma to the spine from mechanical forces, e.g. car accidents etc ] is caused by postural dysfunctions and muscular imbalances ].

These MUST be addressed for LONG-LASTING relief.
