nerve damage

Hi Can anyone offer advice! I have suffered on and off with a bad back for some 20 years, I have always been active Ski-ing, golf, running, and gym work and with the benifit of numerous painkillers and physio, managed the problem until feb 08, when I had an mri scan which showed a large disc prolaspe at lower joints. This became very disabling with sciatic nerve problems and surgery was initially suggested. I have managed to improve my back with the help of this website, an inversion table and a backlife machine along with the exercises, it is manageable! the major problem the disc rupture left me with is damage to the nerves in the bottoms of both my feet, standing, and walking is very painful. Have tried acupunture and various clinicians who don't seem to be able to offer much advice. Is this nerve damge common! has anyone else experienced it, and what did you do !
