Mid/Upper Back pain

I've been suffering from chronic mid/upper back pain for ten years. After numerous x-rays and an MRI, it was determined that my spine and discs were healthy and I had no muscle or soft tissue damage. After seeing a physical therapist, he diagnosed me with forward tilting head and shoulders syndrome. He prepared a stretching and strengthening program to correct my posture and build up strength. To be quite honest, I only did the exercises for 2 or 3 months until the severe pain subsided. Although most of the pain went away, I have this area of muscles in my mid back, just to the left of my spine and below my ribs, that never seems to get better. This is the root of all my problems. It just feels like the muscle is wearing away in that area. I always feel this clicking and popping in that area and it has effected my mobility. I can't do any type of jogging anymore and even walking is starting to get difficult. After my recent episode of back spasms, I came across the "lose the back pain" program. I purchased it hoping that I would learn new information about my condition but it told me what I already know; that I have FHS syndrome. I'm going to continue to do the exercises, as part of my daily routine, hopefully forever. Other than my back pain, I'm a healthy, fit 38 year old. There are days when my back feels almost completely normal, except for that section of muscles that I mentioned earlier. I just seems that no matter how much I stretch and how much I exercise, that area of muscles never seem to get any better. As I mentioned earlier, It has hindered my mobility even just to walk. It feels like a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off. It can be really depressing at times. If there is anybody that can give me any type of feedback, I would greatly appreciate it.

Ruben

Don't worry.

If you have no problems with your disks, you're 95% there.

First: Get hold of a good massage therapist. Have them look at the area. There are seven layers of muscle in the back. Have her really dig in there and find if there are any muscle knots. Now, it will be of no use for them to just meekly touch the area, they'll have to really get in there.

Second: talk to the LTBP guys about trigger point therapy.

Third: You need to make sure that your spine is not twisted. Google Pettibon System and find a practioner in your area. Get checked out by them.

Let me know how you do.

Drop me a private e-mail and I'll send you more info.

You should be a very straightforward case to get sorted out.

Re: Mid/Upper Back pain

Hey Ruben I also have the exact same problem and am currently trying to diagnose myself, seeing as no doctors or chiro's or massage therapists have given me a diagnosis other than "you have a small problem and we can fix it if you keep coming back." I will be going to a doctor this week and ask him to give me the straight goods on my back problem. I will then post it. Keep on this forum as it is giving me plenty of information and hope for my chronic back pain.

Re: Mid/Upper Back pain

I had forward tilted head and "neanderthal look"....If when someone looks at you from the front and can see your knuckles then your scapulas are rolled forward and you are off balance.

I had it severely. After 5 weeks doing Egoscue excercises designed to improve the kinetic chain it is gone.
