Can anyone tell me if an artificial hip can be replaced after removeal in a girdlestone operation (resection arthroplasty) Artificial hip was removed one week after placement because of antibiotic resistant infection.

Re: Girdlestone operation on the hip.

HI Shurlee,

I am not sure and was just wondering if you had checked this out with your doctor/surgeon?

Re: Girdlestone operation on the hip.

We tried to get an answer but they have conflicting answers and none of the answers are clear cut. Answers range from maybe,(family doctor) we will discuss it when you are off the prednizone, (internist) and anytime your ready from the (orthopedic surgeon) But on the computer it only says at all sites I found that the girdlestone operation is an operation of last resort. At this time we just want to know if it is done?
