TV Appearance
I am scheduled to appear in a television program on Fox News in Tampa Bay Florida in about two weeks to discuss how I was able to diagnose my own condition when some of the best doctors in the country were unable to do so and told me that I'd be crippled for the rest of my life, and would be in a wheelchair [ I'm not in a wheel chair and am about 90% "fixed" ]. They also told me I'd need massive surgery.
Not one knife has been anywhere near me.
During the program I'll be discussing the things that helped me to walk again and get better.
Hopefully it'll end up on You-Tube, for people to see that there is plenty of hope for back pain sufferers and that surgery should only be done in real emergencies and when EVERYTHING else has failed.
If the program comes on air, I'll let people know the web link.

Re: TV Appearance
Tks Guys
I have been trying to get Walter Reed Army Hospital In Washington to investigate treatments like LTBP, Meilus Muscular Therapy and Pettibon etc, to help some of the soldiers who are coming back with terrible injuries.
Al's machine can cut through scar tissue like a knife through butter, and the LTBP could be used as a life-long tool for stretching.
Pettibon could be used to get the shape of their spines sorted out and put fluid back in the disks.
Nobody would return my calls [ I worked on this for three months calling many many times ].
These boys and girls lose a limb, then they shift their weight to compensate. This causes tightening of the muscles and hence things like scoliosis, back pain etc in addition to their other problems.
I am determined to get authorities on both sides of the Atlantic to pay attention to these treatments.
The suffereing these vets go through is horrible.
Someone heard what I was trying to do and put a reporter in touch with me.
Lak - there have been a few people gone there from the UK.
The guy who used to organize the Wimbledon Tennis finals was treated successfully by Al.
I've been approached by a book publisher to write a book on my experiences and how to get rid of back pain. I'm hoping to get started towards the end of the year.

Dave
I truly believe God put this burden on you for a greater good. You are a godsend and an example of perseverance. You have looked the experts in the eye and questioned them and all of us are benefitting from it. I know you have tapped your savings to get to the bottom of things (i have too)but this is your life calling. We need advocates like you to educate people that we can be healed. I love the saying by Dr. Art Brownstein who was a chronic back pain survivor...He says, "if you feel pain....you can be healed"....
You are an example of finding the right combination for you. We each are stewards of our own bodies and know when something is wrong. I have a unique problem that had to be unraveled piece by piece as well. This is especially true of the people who do not fit the 90% stats who get better on their own and heal fine.
I can not thank you enough.
I can see it now....Dave Hutchinson.....aka The John Grisham of Back Pain!!! LOL

Re: TV Appearance
Thank you Paul for your kind words.
I would strongly encourage everyone to read Art Browenstein's book.
When my L4-L5 disk herniated, it dug so far into my spinal cord [ 12 mm ] that every doctor who has seen my MRI's cannot figure out why I was not paralyzed.
That book was a godsend to me as I felt so alone.
His story is so encouraging after the horrible experiences he went through.
By next year, I am planning on confronting the American Medical Association and British Medical Association on their conventional treatment of back pain.
Should they try to confuse me with Latin terms and long words, I say "Bring it on". I've spent the last two years reviewing every product and method of back pain treatment on the market.
I have x-rays to prove that "alternative treatments" can work.

Re: TV Appearance
Dave,
Congrats! That is awesome. I am truly convinced that most Physical Therapists and many docs dont have a clue about treating the root cause of back issues. PTs give everyone the same exercises and docs just throw meds at your problem until you are tired of it and then elect to get cut.
The LTBP system has worked wonders for me. I am pain free and continue to get stronger everyday. I am back to my normal life and no more meds. The were beating the heck out of my body. They are so very bad for you.
Good luck with this endeavor. Glad to see that you guys are out there challenging traditional methods.

Paul,
I am new here, but WAY TO GO!!! :)
The AMA and others need to see some light and come into the 21st century. In general, IMHO, the entire group of doctors who treat back and other muscular-skeletal diseases need to open their eyes to the basics of physiology and also to some types of treatment that Asians and others have used for thousands of years!
All the best to you. A book would be wonderful!

Re: TV Appearance
I was interviewed by Fox News in Tampa yesterday with respect to how I was able to overcome a massive disk herniation, degenerated disks, a dislocated sacro-iliac joint, every muscle from my neck to my toes having contracted due to my laying curled up in a ball for six months, and crippling plantar fasciitis without having had to resort to surgery.
I was told by a bunch of doctors that surgery was the only option for ALL of my conditions.
They let me tell my story and allowed me to speak for quite a while.
I hope that my story gives hope and encouragement to all those suffering out there.
They have told me that the story will air in a few days on Fox News Tampa Bay - Medical Report with Dr. Jo.
They have said it will be posted on the Internet at this location:
http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=94707&version=538&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=3.5.1
The story has not been posted yet; I will let people know when it comes up.
In the meantime, if you go to the page link above, I found a whole bunch of really good reports on a whole variety of health issues.
Take a look at the one about salt in restaurant food.
I got a real big surprise on that one.
One of my favourite restaurants, The Macaroni Grill serves a "guiltless" salmon dish. Low in fat and calories, BUT I just found it contains 3 TIMES the daily recommended salt allowance !!
Have been using a product called "Real Salt" which my chiropracter assures me has no effect on blood pressure [ all natural unrefined underground salt ].
So far, my pressure has been dropping from using it.

Re: TV Appearance
Hi Rory
I didn't realise until a couple of days ago that my twenty minute interview actually turned into an hour and ten minutes.
The first interview she did was not aired, as I broke down when I started telling her about everything that happened to me.
My brain has put a guard on my thoughts, as now it all seems like a dream when I spent those six months in bed, but when I started going through everything with her step by step, a whole lot of bad memories just flooded my head.
Once I got all that off my chest, they did the interview that will be aired.
I spoke about what had worked for me and how I couldn't believe how some of the best doctors around couldn't figure what was wrong with me.
She asked me how I managed to diagnose myself and how I dealt with the constant pain.
One of my main aims is to get Walter Reed Army Hospital to look into "alternative" treatments for back pain, and to give people hope that if I could overcome
The producer, Kathy Fountain, has been on holiday and she is the one who will do all the cutting and editing.
I've been told it should be ready in about two weeks.
It will be put on the Tampa Bay Fox News Medical Website [ Dr. Jo ].
I'll let you know when it comes up.

Re: TV Appearance
Just a quick update on this one.
The news team from Fox 13 news Tampa Bay came to my house in Orlando today. They filmed for about an hour and a half.
They explained that with respect to the first filming done about three weeks ago, that they had to wait until the producer came back from holiday and then as soon as she got back, tropical storm Fay hit Central Florida, so they were all put on covering that.
I showed them all the things I have used over the last few years, including my inversion table and my neck traction device.
During the taping, I mentioned this website and hope that it will draw people with back pain to it. I also showed them my x-rays before and after treatment [ which they filmed ] which I am sure will bring hope and encouragement to others.
They have told me that they will edit both segments next week into one, and provided that Tropical Storm Gustav stays away from Tampa/St Pete that it should be aired next week.
What was interesting was that they informed me that the senior producers will be sending the footage to all Fox News stations throughout the country. I hope they actually do that.
They said that they will be advertising the show, which they rarely do, so hopefully quite a lot of people will see it.
I also showed them my bedroom where I spent six months. I had taped all the windows with black garbage bags so that no sunlight could get in. At that time, I didn't want anything to remind me of life outside of that room. I still haven't been able to take them down yet, not from necessity, but just from feeling that is still a part of me. Once I'm 100%, I'll pull them down.It was very emotional for me talking about it and what I did to get through it. I only agreed to have that filmed to try and give some hope to people.

I had some people call me from Tampa today to say that they've already started running clips advertising the program along with the evening news on Fox 13 Tampa Bay.
It was shown three times today.
Fox news called me and asked me to send some photos of when I was in the airborne, which I have done.
They've finished doing all the editing from the first taping and will join in the second taping and show the whole thing on Tuesday.
They've said they will need to edit the final program to put on the Internet, as there was a lot of material.

Spoke with the Fox people today.
The program will be aired tonight after "House". The broadcast area will cover 10 counties around Tampa/St Pete.
If they get enough interest via e-mails, it will be sent to affiliates in New York and San Francisco.
If that works out, it will be shown nationwide in the US.
After that, they are looking at Sky TV in Europe and some TV stations in Australia [ Fox is owned an Australian ].
When we taped this, I challenged any doctor or spinal surgeon in the world to come on TV with me face to face and discuss the things that REALLY cause back pain.
Two and a half years ago, I was left scared out of my mind by a bunch of doctors who told me flat out I was going to be in a wheelchair and that my life was over. They used so many Latin terms and medical gibberish. At that time, I didn't know my elbow from my neck as far as anatomy was concerned.
Those days are long gone. I've done very little over the last while except study the human body and how our backs work.
I hope they air that.

The link shown is for the "trailer" for the main interview.
In the main program, I spoke about losethebackpain.com, Pettibon and some other things.
They showed my inversion table and various other tools that I use.
What I really want people to see are my x-rays [ you can see a little of the "before" x-ray in the trailer ]. I showed before and after.
I hope this give encouragement to all those with degenerative disk problems.
You do NOT have a disease. You have a problem. Problems are there to be corrected.
We taped several hours of material, which was boiled down to about to about fifteen minutes or so. I just hope some of the material where I covered how I worked out what was wrong with me is covered, so that others can follow the same path.

Re: TV Appearance
If you go about one third of the way through the tape, you can see the x-ray of my lumbar spine before any treatment at all.
Look down at where the arrow is [ L4-L5 ] - that's where I had the herniation. It had split into two parts - one 12mm long and the other 5mm long.
Now take a look at the disk underneath [ L5-S1]. It had collapsed completely at one end.
Every doctor I spoke to [ dozens from all over the world ] told that the disk could never be healed.
I would have to be cut open in the front, my internal organs moved to one side, a large graft of bone taken from my hip to make a "spacer", then the whole procedure repeated on my back to get to the back of the spine.
I refused and was able to get my disk back to more than one third of it's normal height.
Once I get the main program on DVD, and it's put on the web, you will see the way my back is now.

Re: TV Appearance
A few elderly people who live on their own have asked me how to get to the video clip:
1. Take your mouse and move it to the left of the bunch of words below. Click it once, so that the little vertical bar stays there.
2. Holding the left mouse button down, "swipe" all the words, by moving the mouse from left to right [ remembering to keep the mouse button down ] until all the words are highlighted.
3. Take your hands off the mouse
4. Carefully move the mouse until the little vertical bar is directly over the highlighted area.
5. Now press the RIGHT mouse button once, and release it.
6. A small menu should appear.
7. Move the mouse pointer [ the vertical bar ] until it is over the word "copy".
8. Click the LEFT mouse button.
9. You have now "copied" the words [ called a "hyperlink" ]
10. Move the mouse pointer to the little horizontal window at the top of your computer screen [ usually at the top left ]. It should have the words "Google" or "Yahoo" or "Internet Explorer" or "Food Tv Network" or something like that at the top. This is where you put Internet Web Addresses. It tells the computer how to get to a particular address [ just like telling a friend where a party will be ].
11. There will already be some words in the window. Highlight the words with the left mouse button, then put the pointer over the words and right click the button. Another menu will appear. Move the pointer to the word "paste" and click the button.
12. All the words we copied will appear.
13. Press the "Enter" button on your computer and the computer should go to the website.
If you can find a teenager, they will be able to do this very quickly.

Thanks Paul
I have three things that I'm working on doing in the future:
1. To challenge the American Medical Association to bring as many experts [ surgeons, doctors, physiatrists etc ] as they want to any venue they would like, with just myself alone to discuss what REALLY causes back pain. I issued this challenge when the main program was being taped. Don't yet know if it got into the final edited version, as I haven't seen that myself yet.
2. I've been asked by a book publisher to publish a book on my experiences with guidelines on what works and what doesn't work. More importantly, WHY some things work and some don't.
I'm suffering from very bad tinnitus just now and can't work on the computer for more than a short time.
3. Some people have asked me to go on major TV network programs and tell my story. At present, I'm recovering psychologically from what happened to me during those six months, and am not quite ready for it yet, but will be by next year.

Re: TV Appearance
Dave don't worry about typos... unless you're writing your book or a website. Speaking of which, yes, a book is imperative, and a website wouldn't be a bad idea too. IMHO, this education is "Oprah worthy" or some other massive-exposure venue at least. There's way too many people in back pain, and way too many things that are harmful, or not working for a majority.
People in these LTBP forums, myself included, have been very fortunate to have purchased LTBP and encountered you. You've made quite a difference in many people's back pain education. A simple "thank you" almost doesn't cut it.
Hey, what a wonderful purpose you have forming in your life... Hell of a way to get to this point! but your time spent in darkness and pain are not fruitless. I wouldn't be surprised if the level of your pain in one direction equals the flourishing of your purpose in the other direction. You're passion to help others by way of knowing the pain, having been there, is producing a profound impact on the knowledge and quality of life for others. (This is a big deal...)
Nice warm fuzzy karma... or something, that I hope will continue its momentum for you. I feel compelled to teach others too, from what I've seen in your situation, and I only experienced a fraction of what you went through. Keep up the wonderful purpose.
Sincerely,
Angela
