Less Is More Horsemanship Forum
Welcome to the Less Is More Forum. This forum is to post questions, comments, suggestions, ideas, principles, concepts and ideas regarding Natural Horsemanship and more importantly, the philosophy of "Less IS More". This is a place where like-minded people can come to throw away all the old traditional ways of training, and riding, and begin to experience a new FREEDOM in their relationship with their equine partners. Whether your goal is to learn more about natural horsemanship, get support for your own personal Less Is More belief, find solutions for problems that are hindering your relationship, begin a journey of discovery or healing, this is your home. Regardless of what the current "fads" are in traditional circles or natural horsemanship circles, I encourage you to think 'outside the box'. Feel free to post a message.

Killer buyers
I think I'm going to have to get rid of my mare. She is 21 years old and I have had her all of her life. We are possibly moving to a sub-division and I would like to find her a new home. I want to find her a good home where she can live her life out. My girlfriend told me to put her in the paper as free/companion horse, but I don't want a killer buyer to get her. She told me that killer buyers are not out there anymore. Is this true?? Thanks Sheila |

I dont know where you live, but I live in Texas and the killer buyers are out and active as much as ever. I frequent another forum that has posters all over the country and there are frequent mentions of their activity. I don't have any advice to give on checking out a potential adopter/new home, wish I did. Just wanted to let you know that as far as I know the killer buyers are still very much a factor. Any chance you could find a reputable rescue that might have room for her? I have two somewhat senior citizen horses and I can sure identify with the intense desire to find them an appropriate home if ever the need arose. I wish you the best as you try to find her a good home and please keep us posted on how it goes for you and her. |

I live in IN, and as far as I know they are still out there. They shut down Cavell, and they call the kill pens at Shippy, "loose pens" now. But I don't think that's changed to much, as far as I've heard. Check into a rescue. Check petfinder.com for a horse rescue near you. IN horse rescue you can donate a hrose to, and they use their adotion application and everything to find him a good home. Right now, there are a ton of "free horse" ads out there. Nobody wants to pay for winter hay. You'd have better luck on a good home in the Spring. |
