Less Is More Horsemanship Forum
Welcome to the Less Is More Forum. This forum is to post questions, comments, suggestions, ideas, principles, concepts and ideas regarding Natural Horsemanship and more importantly, the philosophy of "Less IS More". This is a place where like-minded people can come to throw away all the old traditional ways of training, and riding, and begin to experience a new FREEDOM in their relationship with their equine partners. Whether your goal is to learn more about natural horsemanship, get support for your own personal Less Is More belief, find solutions for problems that are hindering your relationship, begin a journey of discovery or healing, this is your home. Regardless of what the current "fads" are in traditional circles or natural horsemanship circles, I encourage you to think 'outside the box'. Feel free to post a message.

Creek video
Hi Michael I was watching your creek videos with Hondo. In the 1st on you said you would like to see Hondo get in the mud part of the drop. In the 2nd video (playing in the creek) you talked that it was over 2 hrs later. What was it that made/let you decide to continue past the mud stage? Was it Hondo's willingness to try to get to the creek? Thanks Yolande |

GREAT QUESTION.... part of it was that about 15 minutes after that first video he tried to come in to me, but got really troubled. he had tried and did a big slide and when he tried to back up his back legs slid too. This got him in a panic and he got emotionally bound up. So I tried to find a place where I thought we could get a small positive place and then I was going to end it....everytime there was a window to end the day's lesson, I would either miss it with bad timing (my own fault, I was hot and very tired) or he showed signs fo trying really hard for me. if I horse wont quit, and is truly trying, then I wont quit my horse. I will hang in there as long as he does. We start together and we end together. Finally, it was at a point where we both had had enough and neither one of us really cared anymore and thats when it happened... he made the move down the 2 foot slide toward the water. He was light and moving forward so I just verbally encouraged him. I turned my back to him and began walking down the creek and leading him. Lo and behold, he took that scary first step into the creek and as soon as he felt the solid gravel of the creek bed underneath him, he calmly stepped right in... and you see the rest on video. On this past Sunday, I took him down to the creek..he hesitated for probably a minute and half, and then took the slide nad went straight in with no worries. We played around in the creek for an hour or so. I even filled up a spray bottle with creek water and practiced "fly spraying" him. Thanks for asking and watching.... Michael and Hondo |

Thank you for the compliment.... There is a new vidoe up bathing Hondo with a garden hose....ther is a lot of fast hard info on there, and even though we were pushed with time contraints for the video, Hondo did great! Michael |

I realized that I had not thanked you yet for your answer. I have checked in on your website since I had found your website in the last year. I have learned more from you & books you have recommended than anything else. When I had started trying to work together with horses again, I knew I had to find an other way then what I had, still as a was looking I wanted an one answer solution for each & every task or problem, that I just needed to KNOW the answer, as I started to realize it is that journey (like you have mentioned before) that may be the answer & greatest gift. I realize I had let to many opinions of what you "DO" with your horse (as in showing, competing, etc.) to be my goals inside of being a good partner. I had watched a rodeo this past weekend, I remember watching before for entertainment, this time I watched the horses, out of all the competitors only 2 horses were able to be ridden through the gates calmly. With new eyes I watched jaws be yanked open by bits to make horses stop. Your forum & website has given me a new outlook, someone had asked me how you disciple a horse if it did something "bad", it made me think that so many people still think this way. Thanks so much Yolande |
