Iverhart Plus
I got an email from a client who had a bad experience with Iverhart plus so I am looking for info and experiences of others. Below is her email reprinted with her permission: I took Emily to the vet last Friday for her check-up for the bronchitis. It had cleared. I mentioned to my vet that I was considering a natural approach to treat her heartworms. He suggested that I start her on the Iverhart Plus. Well, two days after I gave Emily her first pill (they're given once a month), she became very ill. I took her to the vet on Monday. She had a temperarture of 104. They kept her overnight and warned me that she might not make it. I picked her up yesterday and she was much better. I am keeping her in a kennel for the next 7 days (at the Vet's suggestion) so that she won't get "stirred up". |

How is Emily? I belong to a couple of email lists that deal with health issues in dogs. If you would like to me to mention this to them then please let me know. It may well be that one or two of them might know more. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Replying to: I got an email from a client who had a bad experience with Iverhart plus so I am looking for info and experiences of others. |

Christine that would be great. I actually have tried to join a couple of email lists that deal with natural remedies for heartworms and vaccinations, but got no responses...you know how you have to be approved and all that jazz....so yes, if you find anything out, I would love to know. |

I don't understand why you were using Iverhard Plus to actually treat existing heartworms. This is a heartworm preventative, not a treatment. I originally used to buy the Heartguard Plus, but my vet told me about a generic brand that is the same product, and I started buying that; it is called Iverhart Plus and even states on the package that it is a preventative...just like the Heartguard....not a treatment. I have always heard that if preventatives were given to a dog who had not been tested for heartworms, and the dog did have them, then giving the preventatives could end up being even worse for the dog. Is this what happened? Were you giving preventatives to a dog that already had heartworms? Maybe I misunderstood something, but I buy the Iverhart Plus from my vet, as a preventative for heartworms, and have never had any complaints or problems with it. Connie |
