I enjoy reading my daily LE newspaper for the news and of course the opinion section. Let me clarify that statement. I am not referring to everybody’s favorite rancid column of filth called the Sound Off. Every day I am amazed, shocked, saddened, and sickened by the things that I read from spineless nameless authors who sound off with comments filled with hatred, racism, and mostly ignorance. I see where people write in how much they love the section and that it is the only reason they subscribe to or read the LE. I feel sorry for those people who only look forward to reading trash and filth. By hungering for the worst the city has to offer, we are only encouraging their poisonous messages that teach and preach hate.

There is a normal flow of writers who contribute to the paper who take the time and sign their name to their work. Yes, we get letters and phone calls, but at least people know who sent the message. We all have different views and different stances on everyday life, but there is a fine line that should never be crossed. Sound Off crosses that line everyday it prints. I am not sure whom I am more concerned with, the people who write the trash or the paper that allows this forum for people to spread anonymous hateful racist remarks.

During this time of uncertainty in our city government, I cannot see where Sound Off is beneficial in any way to helping increase the morale in Columbus. People who are not daily subscribers could easily pick up our paper and read the column and perhaps even believe the lies and filth that is printed before them. I can only imagine what people from out of town or newcomers must think when they open our paper and see the very worst Columbus has to offer. How can we expect people to even want to come here needless to say live here if they open our paper and see such division in our city? The Sound Off column activates and stimulates emotions and stirs up feelings and thoughts that we shouldn’t be visiting. The column simply fuels a fire that needs to die.

There are a lot of fine writers here in Columbus, and I cannot understand why LE would choose to publish insane filth instead of more thought out, well written, and professional articles that shares the views of the sane. If Columbus is ever to move forward and start healing its wounds, then the LE and we need to permanently sign off on the Sound Off!
