a fews weeks ago before I went on my flight on Feb 17/06 I went to the Claustrophobia Forum and read all the replies from people to this woman who was flying to Amsterdam. I felt her anxiousness because I consider myself to be extremely claustrophobic, no elevators, no under ground garages and no airplanes. All the suggestions to her and others were good, people in general I find can be very helpful. I took some of their suggestions and combined them with what I feel would work for me. For instance, get an isle seat, that worked for me and with my sister over in the other isle seat. What i would like to add is preparation is the key. Get your mind fixed on the trip. It won't come to you until the last few days. You'll feel the excitement building and then you focus on all the fun you'll have. Have everything you need on hand. A walkman was very helpful for me. I listen to cd's that were related to my destination. I mentioned my concerns about travelling to my naturopath and she concocted what she thought would work for me and I must say it worked. To shorten my story, I was very happy with the results and i'm looking forward to getting back on another airplane. I'm not saying I am cured from being claustrophobic but that I needed help to adjust my mind. Hope this is helpful to anyone who need it. |
